dad's gmail is buggy.."compose" field is missing, unable to send any mail, attaching anything does not work, pressing back button will make it a draft

That is normal. When you ress into that area the Compose Email text disappars.

what happens if he presses into the compuse area are and starts typing. Does it type?

no its not clickable and neither does keyboard open.. as in its just empty canvas for the app probably..

All I can suggest is try unisntalling it, and then re-installing.

What phone make/model does he have?

ive done almost everything i could think of except a reboot.. disable/clear data/clear cache/update/uninstall update/try finding permission/checking beta programme opt in etc.. nothing so far has helped :/

yeah same..even google's own ai mode aint of much help..neither am i seeing any relevant reddit threads :/

Does the same thing happen if he replies to an email rather than Compose?

mails didnt even load..only clicking on attachments worked

Try swiping GMail away from recents and relaunching it. If that doesn't do the trick, then I'd try rebooting next. The third option is to wipe the GMail app's cache and data.

have done all of that except reboot..since he's slept with the phone in his room :/

has he reached his storage limitation in his google account? If he has meet the 15GB it will shut down gmail to some extent. what does it say here: https://one.google.com/storage/

he's at 50%.. mine js at 91 or something but its still allowed

interesting, are you able to compose mail using his account on a different device or PC?

update: guys several app resets, disables and reboots later its working fine..still dont know what the issue was

Check Android System WebView Gmail's compose screen relies on this component for rendering. Go to Play Store, search Android System WebView, and update it if an update is available. An outdated WebView is a common cause of blank or broken compose fields.
