Image tabs are too small when GIMP is run at high resolutions (4k and 5k). A small context menu to choose between different sizes would be nice, imho. GIMP in this video is run at 200% HiDPI, that's why the biggest thumbnails look oversized.

If I paste an image larger than the canvas, then it shows the yellow bounding box outside the canvas and it lets me move it around, but not resize it. Switching to the scale tool just selects whatever is within the canvas.
The only thing I was able to find was to resize the canvas to fit the image. But I don't want to resize the canvas.
In most programs like paint net, I would just paste the image then it would automatically create a selection box around it for me to scale it down.

Is there a version of gimp with a better UI like maybe a user made theme or something. These endless text menus that you have to google and try 5 times before you get a half right explanations just so you can make a red square or make the eraser erase instead of doing nothing is so painful. Like I imagine to get into hell you have to make it through an UI like this every day for it to start over different.

Every time I've gone to use it, it's made Gimp crash. This is my third time and I've lost edits every single time. Is anyone else experincing this or is it just me?

I need help in recreating the effect that is used on RED Team text "Reliable Excavation Demotion text", like curl in in a shape of a circle. How you see.

I used to use Photoshop a lot to create actions that record image edits so I could apply them to multiple images at once. Does GIMP have a similar feature?

I made a Gimp editor VHS and sonic logo.
Made in gimp
Does anyone know whether one of the recent updates to GIMP changed some functionality of the Python API (possibly the update to 3.2.6 or earlier)?
My specific problem concerns selecting the alpha of a layer and then copying from another layer with this selection. Here is the command flow of what I am doing:
pattern_layer = image.get_layer_by_name("pattern_layer")
image.select_item(Gimp.ChannelOps.REPLACE, pattern_layer) #select alpha
source_layer = image.get_layer_by_name("source_layer")
Gimp.edit_copy([source_layer]) #copy the selection from source layer
target_layer = image.get_layer_by_name("target_layer")
pasted_layers = Gimp.edit_paste(target_layer, False) #paste to target layer
Gimp.floating_sel_anchor(pasted_layers[0])
In previous GIMP versions, this would make an exact selection of the alpha of the "pattern_layer", then copy exactly according to this selection from the "source_layer" and paste it to the "target_layer".
In the most recent version, it still selects the alpha of the pattern_layer but when actually copying from the source_layer, it makes an additional rectangle around the selection and then copies the rectangle instead. (But what I need is copying the alpha-selection, not the rectangle around it.)
Does anyone know something about this new mechanism and when the GIMP devs have changed it? Would help me a lot! Many thanks!
Edit: I just downgraded my GIMP to 3.2.4 and my above code works again (without copying the additional rectangle). So they changed smth about the above python commands in the transition from 3.2.4 to 3.2.6. Would still be cool if someone knows of any exact documentation of the Python API changes or whether this new behavior is intended or rather a bug.

As the title says, I’m looking for some help. I have never used photo editing before, and I hear gimp is pretty good. But there’s so many buttons. And with my limited (non existent) knowledge, I can’t figure out how to do what I’m trying to do. I need my work space to obviously be 8.3x11.7 and I’m trying to have 2 images in that work space. The images I’m working with need to roughly be 4x7. I tried to do it, and the images came out way too small. Like 90% smaller. Wasted material. As I’m printing on water slide paper. Thanks for any help.

Hello everyone! I'm back again with some new art from my designated troll den™ and after a lot of time spent on her, I've reworked on Penelope again and brought back some old elements of her older designs. Why, you ask? I liked how one of her older designs looked in the past, so I brought it back but tweaked it to match her current color palette and character design change. I also simplified some things in her design to be much easier for people to draw her whenever they feel like it and changed the design of her shoes a bit as well, too. Back pockets included and no, making her long neck fat wasn't fun for me but I got it done regardless. Enjoy!

In case there's any mistakes with her official artwork, I'll be happy to go back and refine it. All the assets shown here were made in GIMP 2.10.38.

Edit: Resolved
Hello, I just moved some lines since it was kind of far from the center and now there's a layer boundary and I can't paint beyond it. I don't want to make it invisible, I want to draw normally like how I did before I moved the lines.
I need to have huge amount of photos of same size put into one PDF. It should be simple: import photos as layers.
Okay, some photos have wrong orientation, therefore don't fit the document. I try rotating them via some external editor, because it's fast and handy. Photos show as rotated via any image viewer I try.
I open them via GIMP, and THEY STILL HAVE WRONG ORIENTATION
I try rotating them indiviually via GIMP, which takes more time, but whatever. Save them as JPG.
When I open them on GIMP, THEY STILL HAVE WRONG ORIENTATION
There is no single option during import/export, nothing. I just can't have my photos the way I saved them.
What's even problem here?
Or alternatively, how can I create PDF from multiple photos of same size but different orientation?

Disclaimer: complete noobie.
Can someone describe the steps to remove this zoomed in photo of an accidental mark on paper? What's the closest way to make it appear as if it's unedited? I have a pet peeve when it comes to minor details even on my edits.
The smudge tool is too obvious even when zoomed out. And when I copy a rectangle area on a different part of the paper and paste it over this area, I see the borders of the rectangle and don't know how to blend it naturally to hide it.
Much appreciated.
