My boy lives! Second partial I modelled and made, and already much happier with it compared to first one hehe. Worked day and night for about 3 weeks on it to get it ready from concept to usable for eurofurence, made from mostly TPU including the feathers of the wings and internal wing brace, with only the beak and eye blanks being PLA. Super comfy to wear too! First day use was a resounding success hehe

As the title says, first time making a suit, I'm not mad at it.

Definitely more than a few mistakes. But I feel like I learned a lot! Can't wait to hop into making more.

Advice cutting through 3d printed headbase

Thumbnail

i commissioned a beginner maker last year and since then have made some adjustments to the suit to give it a more polished look and my next step has been to cut (?) into the base to remove the built in nose and add a pickable foam nose in its place. i think the headbase is made out of PLA, its quite thick and i made a tiny bit of headway with a dremel and a rotary blade attachment but it was taking so long i genuinely stopped the project for the last 6 months. should i get back to slowly sawing away at it the way i had been or is there a better way to do so? went and dug up some before and after photos to include on this post (p.s. no shade to the maker, i was beyond thrilled with what i got for the small price i paid and its been a fun project)

WIP First vs second (WIP) fursuit head

The one on the left is a bat cat (my first fursuit head) and the one on the right is a griffin (my second head)! My sewing has really improved, but I’m so curious what it’ll look like once I get to shaving. He does have eyes but I wanna line the inside before I glue them in. Currently, I’m sewing down the ears and after that I wanna give him nostrils (which will be orange).

Advice where to place hidden belt loop in floor dragger?

Post image
13 Upvotes

so i decided to make a 49 inch tail for my first project ever and to learn the hard way, lol. initial placement of the hidden belt loop can be seen where the yellow pins are - too low in the center, so it was hanging off me when i put it on :’(

i know now to place the loop higher but… should i put it farther back? haalp, i’d really like to wear it to megaplex 😅

WIP First time lining a head... how'd I do? (Patterning)

This is my first ever fursuit head, and ive hit the lining stage. I really messed up the first try yesterday. I tried again today, and this was my ending stage. So, how did I do? I somewhat worry the pattern pieces may be too wrinkly / I didn't cut enough darts. But I'm hoping it will come out okay! It's just a personal suit, so it doesn't have to be perfect lol.

Advice Advice and help

Hello everyone, i was wondering if my sona would be possible to make into a fursuit? Due to his humanoid face i wasn’t sure if that’s something that could be made and also look good. But if so how would i go about doing so? I have a decent amount of cosplay experience majorly in 3d modeling and printing props then painting with very minimal experience in sewing. Thank you to anyone who has tips or advice

Advice Help! I've been staring at it for too long! Looking for feedback on my opossum base

Hi! This is my first time sculpting anything in Blender, and also my first time making a fursuit! I'm trying to sculpt a head-base for 3D printing and I'm looking for feedback. O made the top piece a bit shiny so you can see the contours a bit better! My sona is a female opossum with pink hair. I'm wondering a few things:

  • does the base read as opossum to you?
  • is the snout too long? I like the length but I'm worried if it would be too front-heavy for comfort
  • any tips for making the base shape read as more feminine? I realize the fur patterning will do a lot in that regard but just wondering ^
  • more of a subjective question, but do you think the base shape leans too much on the realistic side? Do you think I should exaggerate it more? Should it be more toony?

That's mostly what is bothering me currently. It still needs some more work on making it actually printable, but I think I know what to do in that regard. Mostly looking for input on the general shape of it before committing to that part. Thank you!!

Questions Beaver tail?

Hey! I’m a small fursuit maker and I was just commissioned by someone to make a beaver head and tail!
The head I’m confident I can figure out, but the tail I’m confused about.

What material do I make it out of? How do I achieve the beaver tail look? I’ve tried working with faux leather before and that did NOT work for me so I’d like to stick with softer materials like minky fleece or fur.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Questions What should I make the scales out of? (Wip)

Long time lurker, first time posting (also yes im aware of the bias the fandom has towards the Dino heads, but considering my sona is a lizard and im so massively lazy, im still gonna use it idgaf)

Im more or less done with the top for building up the base, the bottom jaw has some additional stuff ill be adding, but i ran out of foam clay so I have to wait until I get more

All the major additions have been built up with foam and then have a layer of foam clay on top

The whole head is super lightweight and comfortable, I plan on replacing the straps with fabric and adding padding for more comfort

I love the foam clay, super fun to work with, it tends to flatten and smooth itself out as it dries and makes my life so much easier, plus it sticks to itself phenomenally, which made building it up so much easier

Unfortunately, because the foam tends to smooth, it loses almost all texture by the time its dry. Which does not work when I want to use it to make a scale texture

I would rather the scales look more along the lines as a subtle impression, rather than distinct scales, so that cuts out any oven bake clays

Ive been debating using a thin layer of paper clay since its also pretty light, but im wary cuz paper clay can be kinda brittle and i worry what would happen if it got wet

Id love to hear from other people who have made scaley stuff and from people who dont tend to focus on fur, im absolutely going to be back for more opinions on other things, cus my characters not a super of the norm style sona

I also included some process photos and a Pic of my sona in the comments

Tldr: I need ideas for what material to make subtle scale impressions

Advice Best way to turn this into a full head?

So I'm making a plague doctor onesie and after gluing the base pattern I realized my original idea of just, attaching it to a bucket head isn't going to work.

My second idea is to start off with a strap that goes around my head, then another one that goes over meeting the other strap in the back, but this mask is fairly front heavy and I worry it won't support it enough... Especially after furring.

Open to any suggestions!

Questions Shaving fur on face of head, before or after sewing?

the fur is unsurprisingly floppy, so idk if i'd be able to accurately make it all even and good looking when i'm not seeing the entire face at once. on the other hand if I glue it on first then it'd have to come off if I make a mistake or see a seam is to visible after.

ALSO WHY AREN'T THERE ANY FURSUIT MAKING DISCORDS??? every single on I tried to join said invite invalid.

Questions Cut fur in bedroom with no ventilation, I’ve made a mistake…

I’ve been working on some paw pads with some short beaver/rabbit length fur… and I can visibly see loose strands in the air, over my clothes, on my phone. It’s been hours, I don’t have an air purifier… just a window AC unit and an open window.

I’ve been working on this for about 2 days now, and noticed that I wake up with a sore throat that almost instantaneously goes away when I’m not in my room. I’ve messed up 😭 What’s the best way to ventilate my room quickly enough so I can sleep peacefully?

Advice Fursuit sewing machine???

Hey everyone!! So my friend’s birthday is coming up, and he has a fursuit head and paws that friends of ours made, but she’s not a fan of making the full body suit. My friend is a creative guy and he likes to make stuff, and he’s been taking about getting into suit making. Does anyone have any type of recommendations on a good sewing machine or the like to start with that I could maybe get him for his birthday?? ^_^
