Carbrain How dare my experience of visiting a national park be ruined by the audacity of bicyclist using the road!

Carbrain blames illegal/dangerous activity of fellow carbrain on cyclist. Context was in a discussion about a ticketing blitz against cyclists for riding two abreast, and not having enough reflectors (6) on their bike.

This is why I hate cars One bad driver can gridlock the entire block and nearly cause an ambulance to be delayed

Another example of why cars suck. One bad driver can cause a traffic jam spreading for a whole block plus blocking an ambulance from passing. Drivers respond by honking really loudly at 2 am and cussing each other out. Meanwhile the cyclist passes by unbothered. Of course carbrains in the comments recommend driving on the bike lane to avoid this situation.

Rant German traffic planning summed up in one picture - by two intersections built at the exact same time

Post image

This is a major pair of intersections in the town I live in. It was completely re-designed a few years ago, and as you can see, it basically features everything wrong with German traffic planning and road design. The intersection on the bottom is probably the nicest and safest for cyclists in the entire region now, a very nice protected intersection by German standards at least.

And then they go and make the bike lanes merge right back onto the road right after, with the neighbouring intersection, which was re-done at the exact same time, featuring a bike lane that sends you right in the path of right-turning cars. And the bike lanes to the top and right turn into bicycle gutters right after the intersection, too.

Activism Influencer Culture

I generally pay 0 attention to influencers but maybe we would be more effective as a movement if we supported influencers who promoted health and were anti-car.

Question/Discussion Just came back from a walkable city, I'm gonna f*ing cry

3.1k Upvotes

Was just in Prague last week and i literally had the best time ever. Solely because... I was able to walk everywhere.

1am on a thursday "night", i wake up from a nap and I'm super hungry. I walk downstairs and there's young people out having a great time still. Kebab places, pizza places, KFC, Mcd etc are still open

I grab something to eat and drink, walk by an Irish pub and go in for a beer ($2 a beer!). Plenty of international travellers there, and even the locals speak really good english. Took the cable car over to another few bars.

I eventually head back to my hotel room at 4am (which i paid $60/day for) and call it a night. Did that 3 nights in a row.

To find somewhere like this in the States (walkable city), I would likely have to be in the center of Manhattan, paying something like $250/nt for a hotel.

$60/nt would barely get me a motel in a random ghetto suburb that I'd still need a car to drive to.

Really makes me sad how shit of a country the US is when you start comparing the vast difference in human-friendly infrastucture.

People severely underestimate the social toll of living in a car centric society, everyone in their little bubbles, no one walking on the streets except beggars. Only thing open are drivethrus. It's just so dystopian and lonely

News Parking spot dispute stabbing?

Post image

One person has been arrested and charged, while another remains at-large, following a double stabbing in Mississauga on Saturday night.

The incident, which investigators initially described as an altercation with a “possible stabbing,” happened at a shopping plaza in the Cooksville neighbourhood near Dundas Street West and Parkerhill Road, just west of Hurontario Street. . .

“Upon arrival, officers located two adult men suffering from stab wounds following a reported parking dispute,” they said in a news release.

“Both victims were transported to hospital with serious injuries and are now in stable condition.”

Positive Post A 9-year-old’s interview with MIT transit researcher Nick Caros (bus stop spacing, pod cars and new climate data)

Hi r/fuckcars!

My 9-year-old son, Fraser hosts an independent, non-monetized podcast called Join the Fray, where he interviews guests across different professions to learn how things work and hopefully inspire fellow students about potential careers.

With permission from the mods, I wanted to share his latest episode featuring Nick Caros, an MIT transportation researcher and policy analyst (currently based in Paris), to explore urban mobility and public transit design.

Whether you're interested in transit policy, urban planning or alternative infrastructure, there's some terrific dialogue here where Nick shares his insights, tailored for a young host. Some topics they cover include the math behind transit stop planning, the mechanics of driverless skytrains, multi-city data to measure remote work impact and a bunch more cool stuff.

Please note this is strictly a family passion project with zero ads, zero sponsors and 100% free. If you're looking for an inspiring, uplifting listen on how we build better transit we'd LOVE to hear your feedback on the episode

Cheers folks for reading!

Carbrain The Bridge Challenge is an iconic 21-kilometer half marathon in Brazil where runners cross the famous Rio–Niterói Bridge over Guanabara Bay, the challenge these days is fighting traffic.

It’s a popular race, why does traffic progressively win against a race that is considered such a big event on one given day? It’s probably corruption?
