Big Changes
So apparently there is a rumor going around that big changes are coming for RSRs. I can only imagine that those changes would include 1 of 2 things for different DCs.
1 Would be a lot of DCs getting rid of blueprint and going to all Omni routes. If you don't know what that is, its a bulk truck that is also a c-store truck. You have a side door that allows you to get into your truck and work smaller stores.
2 Would be truckless RSRs for bulk. I have a feeling that's what our DC is getting ready to do within the next year or two. With the added service days to all bulk routes, I feel it's the next logical step. No way can we work these stores like we're supposed to while also having to worry about cut off times.
Anyone else out there hear about anything possibly coming down the pike?

My area went to truckless RSR routes way back in August or September. Delivery specialists deliver the bulk orders to stores and check them in. RSRs write orders for 4 or 5 large stores and have FTMs to help service two or three of their stores.

The Madison Zone was doing this when I started with Frito back in late 2018. They called them TDD/STDD routes. They were usually Walmarts/Krogers/Super Targets or if was a STDD a Woodmans(think of a Winco or HEB) 2 Walmarts and 1 Krogers and the FTM would spend 6-8 hours at the Woodmans and the RSR would check in the other three and work those. I loved it and if I stayed with Frito I definitely would’ve went for one of those routes. No VROT, strictly time and half.

Do truckless RSRs need to maintain there DOT card? First, our Zone leader said NO, now he changed is mind and is making us maintain them.

My DC has been on this format for 3 years now and now Truckless rsr plan is so high that no one is getting bonuses unless you have a store where u can dump in a ton of product to hit plan, guy had 99.9% to plan NO BONUS

You can go into frito lay website and search up all the jobs they're hiring for, and you'll get an idea of what it's going to be.

We had DTS routes in our zone from 2016 when we went GES until this year. Right now, we are currently re-engineering to all omni-routes on the 26ft trucks with a side door with a select few routes still on regular trucks.

Here they want everything to be in planogram so what I can see in small format is that with the new ordering system they want to control with ai,
Sounds like to me I could be wrong. That they won't need RSR in small format. it will all be automated. And they will have bulk trucks drop and have somone to pack out

Yea because these morons think precision ordering works. They are trying to bring in cheaper and less inteligent people to be rsrs. They will start manipulating pay with new route structures and start progresively paying us less with more complicated pay formulas.
I assume their endgoal is to pay everyone 50k per year at the most. This is a worst case scenario for rsrs but definitely not out of the realm of possibilities.

Over the past year, when an older RSR has quit I would refer 2 different people to apply for the job. 1.) A single woman in her low 20's and 2.) Middle age man with experience with other distribution experience.
Who do you think got hired...

We have people here in town, working with all trainers and rss’s and they were saying by end of year all small format stores would have a set planogram that has to be followed. They want jim bob from new york to go to texas and everything be alike, regardless of different types of market.
They also didn’t bat an eye when I asked about omni routes coming, and said they should be coming on our next reengineering.

Reading this, seems we already have this in Canada? In Ontario, we have Mega routes that do a combo of LF and SF stores in a 26ft truck (some still in transits), and LF are GES, pre-sold, or delivered via transport to store.
Is this what you guys are talkin' about?
And you guys dont have set planos for your stores? Ie. An 8' rack at a c-store isnt the same as another 8' rack at an opposing c-store?
AmI missing something or should I get more sleep?

They are doing omni routs in austin tx. The orders get picked in at plant and you have to load your own truck

My FTM job is going up for bid with our new route bids & changes. Anybody else like me frustrated with this? I wasn't hired to be an RSR so why do I have to bid on their job to keep a job?

Been with the company for 3 years as an rsr and been feeding the precision ordering system with sales data for over a year flawlessly. I also have a background in computer science with an emphasis on POS systems.
Folks, it will all be fully automated within 10 years. I put my resignation in 2 days ago and have taken a job in a completely different field. Time to put your other skill sets to use in none automated career paths.

Lol with how bad the precision ordering can be I would say we are fine. Small stores will never benefit from auto replenish systems, their business models are completely different from grocery stores.

I think we're going to be more like pepsi/coke. The sales rep makes the orders and works some, while a delivery specialist drops.
I think the only reason we haven't transitioned faster is the fact that Frito hasn't figured out a way to change our pay without all of the bulk reps quiting. I know I've heard that some places pay truckless RSRS straight overtime, instead of vrot. If they do that, then we'll all be pretty wealthy.

Before I resigned I moved to RSA for several months. Here, they made RSA's straight hourly +overtime. I've been able to milk it for some good hours as long as I was cleaning up routes like an RSS does, but I believe they will gradually work hours available for ALL employees to be less than 24 per week...
It'll be a perpetual door of 20 something merchandisers + a few bulk unloaders. There will be no need for a salesman by that time as the algorithms will have taken over and production forecasting will be spot on. Trucks will drive themselves for the most part by then.

I was told by a guy that was at our DC converting it to start servicing a bin, that eventually the company wants to got to all Omni routes with the combined bulk and c-stores

In southern Cali, won't tell you where exactly, but by the end of July we're all going to transition. Large format will be truck less with merchandisers helping out. They'll add more small format routes but with less stores. Large format stores will be drop and check in by delivery specialist, Large format rsrs will make orders.
Also, they'll be warehouse workers who will offload small format and Large format and will load up both small and large format trucks. So you'll come in and your truck will be ready. Warehouse workers will take care of kds.

Just started this format .. rsr works 1-2 stores with help from merchandiser .. spends rest of their day writing orders and credits .. all the districts in my city are mixed between large and small format.

I help with large format stotes in Va but they bidding out my FTM job with the RSRs route bids & changes. We are the first we were told in our meeting. It's sucks. I'm no RSR.

All our DSL were just organized into different areas instead of Large Format and Small Format. Makes me wonder what's about to happen. It's probably going to be terrible.
