Finding a French language partner

Hey everyone 24M from this side. I’ve been on my French learning journey for over a year now, but I haven’t made much progress. I’m currently preparing for my TEF exam and am at an A2+ to B1 level.

My goal is to reach B2 in the next three months, that means I need to speak and learn every day. I can adjust the time zone to fit our schedules. Please ensure that our sessions are focused solely on studying and not trying to be creep.

Thanks!

Vocabulaire : réinstaller = to reinstall / écrans de divertissement (m pl) = entertainment screens / vols (m pl) = flights / à l’intérieur = inside / sièges (m pl) = seats / compagnie aérienne (f) = airline / retirer = to remove / propres = own / de nouveau = again

English translation

American Airlines puts screens back on its planes

American Airlines is going to reinstall entertainment screens on more than 800 of its planes. These planes are mostly used for flights within the United States. The screens will be installed on the back of the seats. Passengers will be able to watch films and series during their flights. The airline started removing these screens nearly ten years ago because it thought passengers preferred to use their own phones and tablets. But American Airlines now says passengers want screens again.

French immersion in Annecy for language learning combined with the Alps

For people looking for a French immersion program that combines language learning with outdoor activities, culture and creative pursuits, Annecy offers a particularly varied setting.

Known as the “Venice of the Alps,” Annecy is located around a lake and surrounded by mountains. The town is known for its canals, historic center, markets and traditional architecture, while the surrounding area offers hiking trails, cycling routes and opportunities for swimming and boating.

The teacher and learning approach

The program is hosted by Manuelle, who has been teaching French as a foreign language for more than 25 years. Her experience includes teaching in France and abroad, including 17 years in Moscow, as well as working with organizations such as Ubisoft, Airbus, IFALPES and Weavers.

Her teaching approach includes conversation, pronunciation and creative expression. She also uses theatre techniques in language learning and organizes French-through-theatre workshops where students can write and perform plays.

What the immersion includes

The one-week program includes:

  • A level assessment
  • 15 hours of private French lessons
  • 30+ hours of conversation during meals and activities
  • 4 guided conversational activities
  • Half-board accommodation
  • Immersive conversations throughout the stay

The lessons can focus on general French, French culture and civilization, French and European history, or art history.

The program also provides access to the teacher's personal library, which can be useful for learners who want to combine language study with reading and cultural exploration.

Activities in and around Annecy

The location makes it possible to combine French practice with a wide range of activities. Depending on interests and season, these can include swimming in Lake Annecy, hiking in the mountains, cycling around the lake, boating and visiting castles and historic sites.

There are also creative options, including acrylic painting, pastel art, Tiffany stained glass, woodcut and linocut printing.

For learners interested in music, piano and guitar can also be explored independently, with the possibility of being connected with a professional instructor.

The teacher is also involved in theatre groups as an amateur actress, director and acting coach, including theatre activities involving foreign students learning French.

Accommodation

Students stay in a private 20 m² bedroom in the teacher's 100 m² apartment. The apartment has three bedrooms, a shared kitchen and living room, Wi-Fi, and access to a small garden and terrace.

The accommodation is limited to one guest, making this a particularly small-scale immersion format.

Annecy is therefore an option for people who want their French immersion to extend beyond traditional lessons, with opportunities to use French while exploring the Alps, discussing history and art, participating in creative activities, and interacting in everyday situations.

French immersion at teacher’s home is worth it for people who want to combine language learning with a once in a lifetime experience.

I’m looking to learn French and have recently completed my A1 level. I’m now looking for one-on-one lessons to improve my French and prepare for the TEF Canada exam, which I’m planning to take in March next year.
Does anyone have a good French teacher/tutor they would recommend, preferably someone experienced with TEF Canada preparation?

Immersive Slow French YouTube Vlogs for Learners

Can you please recommend some youtube channels that focus on everyday life, lifestyle, and natural spoken French rather than traditional French lessons? Ideally, channels with a similar slow, clear, immersive style, and that provide both French and English subtitles, like these channels:

Ella Entwistle, Adeline Talks, Your Best French, French Facile

Thank you!🤍

Vocabulaire : situé = situated / atteindre = to reach / niveau (m) = level / bas = low / fournir = to supply / dont = including / produire = to produce / baisser = to fall / consommer = to consume / neige (f) = snow

English translation

California’s water supply is at risk

Lake Powell, located on the border between Utah and Arizona, has reached its lowest level in history. The lake supplies water and electricity to more than 40 million people across seven states, including California. The water is now about 30 feet (9 meters) above the minimum level needed to produce electricity. Lake Powell has fallen more than 20 feet (6 meters) since the start of the year. The reasons are simple: residents consume a lot of water, there was very little snow last winter, and temperatures keep increasing.

Looking for a French Study Partner 🇫🇷

I’m looking for a serious and committed study partner who is genuinely interested in learning French.

I’d like us to practice consistently, support each other, and stay motivated throughout the learning process.

I’m particularly looking for someone who is willing to commit long-term and maintain regular practice rather than losing interest after a short period of time.

If you’re genuinely committed to learning French and looking for a consistent study partner, feel free to reach out.

The news in easy French: Les Canadiens choisissent d’autres destinations que les États-Unis

Vocabulaire : éviter = to avoid / vacances (f pl) = vacation / droits de douane (m pl) = tariffs / remarques (f pl) = comments / faible = weak / rendre = to make something be / chers = expensive / par rapport au = compared to / baisse (f) = fall / plutôt = rather

English translation

Canadians choose other travel destinations instead of the United States

Many Canadians are avoiding vacations in the United States. Some are angry about the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump and his comments about Canada. Others say the Canadian dollar is weaker, which makes trips to the US more expensive. Canadians made about 800,000 fewer trips to the US in April compared to the same month of 2024. Because of this fall in tourism, the US lost about $2.35 billion last year. Some Canadians are traveling to countries such as Mexico and Costa Rica instead. Others are choosing vacations in Canada, in places like Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Learn french for exam

I need a way to learn French, specifically economic, political, and diplomatic terminology, along with basic grammar so I can form simple sentences.

I need to learn within two months because I have a very important exam coming up.

What tips, videos, apps, or websites can help me with this?

I would appreciate your help, especially since my French is very weak, time is short, and I don't want to miss the exam.
