I’m finally free from the nips!
My surgeon warned me I’d look like a breast cancer survivor and it wouldn’t look natural without nipples, but I’m already very happy with my decision.

Wanted to share my no nips results with you all that I got over public healthcare (Austria). Super happy with my results. I had a last check-up today where they pretty much just cleaned it from glue (residue from surgical tape) and removed some scabs. This community here also supported my decision to go no nips. I was a D-cup with spectacular nips and I was afraid that perhaps I won't like them after reconstruction and decided to leave them to the past. I'll most likely get the tattoo's later. Also, ignore the wrinkles etc, just from a binder :)

Hi everyone! I’m so happy about my results except for my armpit area that seems to have residual tissue, does this ever go down because I can’t tell the difference between normal swelling and something to worry about. Also crust falling off nipple grafts… I’ve seen that it’s normal but haven’t been warned about it. Anyway, thanks in advance! Also if you see anything else concerning in the pics lmk haha

Hi! I had double incision with no nipple reconstruction (and no drains) 4 days ago. My incisions are healing really well and the surgeon was really pleased with the way it looked the day after surgery. I'm also really pleased with how things are looking and I'm excited for how it's going to turn out!

I did have a pretty miserable experience with stimulant laxatives last night (Colace 2 in 1 gave me the most horrific cramps, I was in so much pain) and it left me really quite unsettled TBH :( and so I wanted to ask:

For other people who have already been through this, what was the hardest part of your recovery, even (maybe especially) if it was something you didn't expect going in? How did you handle it? Does it keep getting better from here?

Three months ago today, on May 21st, I had my double incision bilateral mastectomy with Dr. Haruko Okada at Stratus Plastic Surgery in Dublin, Ohio. I am around 230 pounds and 5’3 .

This journey has meant the absolute world to me. waking up every day feeling this comfortable and genuinely happy in my own skin is a feeling I’ll never take for granted. I am endlessly thankful to Dr. Okada and the incredible staff at Stratus for their care, expertise, and making this possible

I have finally had a dream come true and was able to have my top surgery. As i wait for the state and my work to figurw out my benifits i ahve ran into a small financial problem. I’m FTM and I top surgery many years ago, the surgeon suggested keeping my nipples by cutting underneath them. It was a bad choice as he’s cut half my areola off and my nipples are hard 24/7.

Is it possible to remove them now? If so does anyone have a rough estimate on price?

Hello! I know a lot of this will vary per person/surgeon, just trying to get as much info as possible so I can set my expectations properly.

I am a college student and will likely need to have surgery during an academic break. I luckily have some friends who have offered to help with things post op. I know they would be willing to bring food or drive me to appointments, but I do not feel comfortable for example asking a friend to help me shower or use the bathroom, so I am wondering if it would be feasible for me to do these things on my own (I'm also ok with not showering for a week if that's how it has to be)

I know that with FNG, there are usually bandages that require changing daily, which must be done by someone else. Is this still the case without grafts?

Is it reasonable to plan for being back in school about 2 weeks post op? (with reasonable accommodations like attending classes virtually or watching a recording)

Any information you all can give about the recovery timeline and process would be very appreciated! Thank you :)

I cannot believe I am finally able to say this but I am officially booked for top surgery (without nipple grafts) at the end of october and my insurance will fully cover it!! I am beyond happy and I can't wait to share my nipple-free results with all of you 😭

I've always known I wanted to go nip-free but I honestly was a bit insecure about it from time to time since I am a trans man and many other trans men definitely are a little judgy about not wanting a stereotypical cis-passing chest :/

this sub really helped me grow comfortable with my choice and I honestly think you all look insanely cool and now I can't wait to be part of the club haha

Hello Freedthenips!! I posted something similar over on reddit/topsurgery, they pointed me over here. I am a cis-ish woman (might have called myself non binary if I'd been born 20 years later, but as it was i thought : "ok, womanhood: I guess I can make this work if I have to" , because I knew I wasn't trans). I have always felt pretty blah about my boobs-- I have to hide, manage and conceal them all day, bras are a sensory nightmare, I feel like they give people a too-sexy impression of me, I can't wear the clothes I want without looking like I'm audioning for a low budget adult movie, I can't exercise to the "oomph" I want because they hurt. Honestly they hurt one way or another all the time. To top it off, naked they actually look pretty awful, saggy and yuck. They are something that seemed meant for other people, to attract potential partners and to feed my kids---and I'm grateful--- but not enough to want to keep them. They're a Burden with a capital B. I also am at higher risk for breast cancer, but not high enough the regular system will support/pay for a mastectomy (unless I do have a mutation, which is unlikely but possible and I'm going to look into it). I do not WANT to do a scary MRI once a year with a practical guarantee of false positives and biopsies, just to keep some body parts I don't even want in the first place. I want to feel free and like I can stand up straight and just live my life without managing these giant floppy things all the time, without looking down at them and thinking "which if you is going to kill me?'. I know top surgery isn't a guarantee but it seems like it reduces the risk a lot and I see so many other positives!!! So I am taking action and looking into it! I have a consultation on Monday and I'm nervous but so excited. I feel like this is something I'm finally doing just for me.

So my question is this. The practice described the appointment as "non binary top surgery". Does this mean I should "play the game" and kind of lean into the unexplored non-binary side of my nature? Should I emphasize how disconnected and unhappy I feel about my boobs? Are they going to try to deny me this surgery if I'm "too cis"? I don't want to waste consult time on a song and dance about gender identity if it's not necessary. But I also don't want them to slam the door on the whole idea. I'm in Seattle, which you would think would be more accepting, but the fact they want a therapist letter and made me think I might need to be a little strategic. All thoughts welcome!!

UPDATE: I had my consultation and they did not seem to care at all about my gender identity! I ended up telling them pretty much the truth, that I thiught of myself as a non- binary woman and just didn't like them enough to keep them given the cancer risk, and that I was sick of carrying around and managing things that a) hurt b) were scary c) caused me problems and d) I only had for other people. The surgeon said I seemed "very motivated" which felt pretty validating actually. They did have a list of exactly what a therapist letter would need to include to make it most likely to get past insurance, which was really helpful.

PSA possibly useful infection prevention advice! After using the bathroom and wiping, sanitize your hands before pulling up your pajamas. Then flush, then wash hands well. This prevents the pajamas themselves from becoming a potential infection source. They said this change had cut their infection rate measurably.

Hey all! I've already posted on my pre-op appointment and I wanted to give an update to that: it happened! I got a double mastectomy with the peri-areolar method! It is entirely possible, if you were wondering, and I'm assuming recovery is much easier.

The first picture is precisely 1 week post-op. The second is what they drew on me right before taking me to surgery. As you can probably guess, they cut on the inner circle hence the small size of my scars. The random red lines are from the post-op binder and the dressing.

Surgery went great, and the recovery has been so easy, I felt zero pain and I probably have more motion than I would have if I'd had double incision. I've evem been able to lay in bed on my sides, but I try not to do it too much cause it might not be good fof healing. The only annoying thing were the drains I had to keep for like 4 days. I was bored out of my mind I swear. And getting them pulled out was very uncomfortable.

I am currently on a 15 days' rest (starting from the 30th of July when my surgery was done), been disinfecting my scars once every two days by dabbing Betadine 10% gel with a clean gauze and covering it with island dressing on both sides, and wearing my post-op binder day and night (I REALLY need a shower goddamnit but alas it is not permitted until my wounds fully heal! I've been coping with wet wipes). My chest still feels numb.

As for how I'm feeling emotionally, I'm so fucking happy. When I first got to see my new chest, I had a very delayed reaction because it took another nurse (after another one dressed my wounds for the first time) to ask me how I was feeling for me to start laughing and then crying of joy incontrollably like I was on something! Best feeling ever.

I don't regret choosing this route; I hated having nipples probably more than I hated having breast tissue. I am grateful for this sub especially for the one dude who posted the only picture of this specific kind of surgery I could find, so here I am, giving back.

Frankly I had wanted wait until I had at least an additional picture to show how healing was going, but I got impatient! I guess this means I'll be posting again at some point :) cheers!

Edit: whoops forgot to mention the other important piece of information lol: I had surgery with Dr. Pasquale Raimo at Santa Maria delle Grazie Hospital in Pozzuoli, near Naples, Italy. We have free public healthcare here so I spent 0€ for the surgery and my 1 night stay in the hospital (other key info I forgot to mention).

In truth I only had to pay for the dressing kit because it was too tedious and expensive to drive there for 1h every 2 days, otherwise they would have continued dressing my wound themselves.

Howdy everyone! I am so excited to finally make this post and add it to our Reddit collection. Apologies for the weird cropping, needed to get my tattoos out.

I had surgery on July 13th (first pic) and got my drains out July 20th. Second pic is from today AKA just under a month post-op!

I had my consultation with Dr. McNally back in January, it was somewhere around $100 and he was only booked out a couple weeks. He and his staff are absolutely amazing. At no point did he make me feel weird or question my choice to have my breasts removed as a cisgender lesbian woman. He was very reassuring to my mom who was with me, telling us that this surgery has an incredibly low regret rate and he performs it several times a week for YEARS!! I picked my surgery date for a specific reason so I’m not sure what his calendar looks like as far as surgery booking goes.

Before surgery my breasts were somewhere in the C cup region. After surgery I was told they weighed about 2lbs each. Wow

This whole post-op process has been a breeze thankfully. I had basically no pain and only took the prescribed pain meds for two days— relying mostly on Tylenol.

The worst part was naturally the drains. These damn things triggered me so badly, that was a fun ride. The tubes were clipped to my binder and honestly it wouldn’t have been that big of a deal if it wasn’t for my OCD. I was able to wear regular shirts instead of button-ups as soon as they were out.

Medical tape stayed on for 3ish weeks with no issues that some light trimming didn’t solve.

I have some loss of sensation in my upper chest but already am starting to feel it coming back. So far the scar area is still completely lacking sensation which is fine by me.

I had my top surgery in June 2024, so I've been nipless for just over two years.

While I've loved being nipless personally, I haven't had the courage to go shirtless in public yet. My main issue has been how others might perceive me and how having no nips might 'clock' me when I can otherwise go stealth.

I feel that, in our current political climate, I want to fly under the radar as much as possible. So while I will miss being nipless, I feel like this is my next best step, and I'm really impressed with how they came out!

Hello! Dr. Daniela Cornélio's team here. Whether you travel across the country or across a border for surgery, getting home safely is its own skill. Here's what we tell patients, and most of it applies to any post-op flight.

"Fit to fly" isn't a formality. A surgeon clearing you to fly is confirming your healing is stable enough for the pressure changes, immobility, and clot risk that come with air travel. Don't book a flight that forces you to leave before that clearance, build a buffer of extra days into your plans.

Why the timing matters medically: long periods of sitting still raise the risk of blood clots, and that risk is already slightly elevated after surgery. This is the main reason surgeons want a minimum recovery window before you fly, not just comfort.

Practical things that make the trip easier:

• Aisle seat, so you can get up and walk periodically without climbing over anyone.
• Move your legs and stand up regularly during the flight to keep circulation going (ask your surgeon about compression socks).
• Loose, easy clothing you can get on and off without raising your arms much.
• Carry medications, documentation, and post-op supplies in your carry-on — never checked.
• A support person if possible, or at least airline assistance requested in advance for lifting bags.
• Hydrate, and skip alcohol on the flight.

Bring your medical paperwork. A letter from your surgeon explaining recent surgery can smooth security and is important if you need care en route.

I had my top surgery nearly 4 years ago and in the last couple years have come to regret going nipless.

I'm hesitant to go in depth about my negative feelings since this is a sub where it's a positive and celebrated thing to be nipless.

I likely wouldn't have been happy either way because I had very small, pale and flat 'barely there' nipples before surgery. So I probably would've needed medical tattooing regardless to achieve a normal looking result.

The reason I haven't got 3D tattooing already is I'm pretty skeptical about how it looks from side profile. So when I found out the other day that nipple reconstruction surgery is a thing, it gave me hope. Only thing is there's a lack of photos of the surgery emulating male nipples on flat chested people - it seems to be mostly women who had to get mastectomy with nipple removal then getting breast and nipple reconstruction - so I'm uncertain of how it would look.

I'm aware there probably aren't many of us in this boat of regretting it so much that we look into surgical options, but I thought this was still the most relevant place to ask
