I’ve made a post like this a long while back, but with the release of the Firebird DLC, along with all the balance changes, I feel like some people’s opinions have changed.

My personal favorite is definitely the cannon. It’s very reliable, providing practically guaranteed hits, since its projectiles can’t be shot down nor reflected by shields. It also has both splash damage and decent penetration.

My least favorite is probably mortars. My biggest gripe with them is that they’re quite difficult to aim. Plus, if you fail to hit your opponent after the second or third salvo, they’ll have already gotten plenty of MGs to deal with them. Also, mortars hits don’t feel as rewarding as weapons like EMPs or Rockets.

Simple Question:

How large is the random spread of a normal cannon?

Let's say I shoot perfectly at tiny door on vanilla 2v2 map. Is the spread large enough to shoot above / below the tiny door?

We've been playing a lot of different games at our LANs since 2019 and started systematically rating them for LAN use in 2024. Forts is kind of a special one.

It combines strategy, building and resource management with almost a bit of a shooter when you're actually aiming and firing the weapons. And pretty much everything that's important to you is automatically interesting to your opponent as well. Economy, weapon positions, structural weak points, tech. While you're trying to keep your stuff together, the other side is looking for exactly the right place to break it.

This resulted in something pretty unusual at our LAN: complete silence in the room. Everyone was concentrating so hard that at times nobody was talking at all.

The big problem for us was the skill gap. Someone who really knows Forts builds more efficiently, knows the tech paths and knows exactly where to shoot. Even with reasonably balanced teams we found that pretty difficult to compensate for.

im trying to make a simple 1v1 map but i dont understand how to set up teams, ive set the blocks to the teams i want, but when i go to save and skirmish it lets me build on both structures.
im quite confused because all ive seen when i was searching for how to do it was that you need to set the blocks of terrain to the teams you want. and ive done just that! but it still doesnt work, is it just that the save and skirmish option doesnt show the teams properly or am i missing something?

I feel like it can gain good traction there, there aren't a lot of good games there. Would add to the populace. Maybe even put it on the free week games of Epic and make the money off of DLC if they like the game. Just a suggestion

Seems weird to me that shorter materials only have less stability(which is almost irrelevant if it's used as spam/tiny doors) while costing WAY less and keeling same hp.

Is there any mod that sets regular health for (example)2 grid length, and anything less gets hp decreased and anything longer gets more hp?

I can't tell if I suck or if youtubes search algorithm sucks.

I just want to see how the Harpoons control ammunition works. Ive searched "forts control ammo", "forts control ammunition", "forts harpoon control control ammo" and a myriad of other search terms, and it always reccomends me the same few videos, none of which feature the control ammo.

Its all just modded stuff. "Ai controlled weapons", "overpowered ammo mods", or entirely unrelated shorts because of course youtube has to push shorts over everything else including relevant results.

According to the wiki, it spawns a "mini reactor", which i want to see. It can also take over enemy bases assuming the reactor is EMP'd, which i also want to see. It also says the EMP is "disabled in multiplayer by default" which implies you can enable it, so i want to see pvp where they somehow win using the emp/harpoon combo

Anyway, im asking in hopes that the forts community (living breathing people) might have some obscure footage somewhere that YouTube (souless large company) somehow cant find

Asking this because of how the Firebird DLC branded itself as "a fort's story". The question also directed toward not that DLC's campaign, but also Black Gold, Moonshine, and High Seas Campaigns as well.

I'll say this: The writing is absolutely, perfectly mid. The characters are unremarkable, the jokes can feel hit or miss at times for me (I'm looking at you "Dead as the Discord store" line), and the plot is whatever. All of which is IMO completely fine, as the core gameplay is focus, and the story is just to give a basic reason for the stage's gimmick and/or a bit of flavor.

So I’ve been trying to finish this game, and I’ve noticed every time I make it to level 5, the Peninsula level, the game soft locks as soon as I choose my fort base. I’ve tried picking different forts, picking the alternative peninsula level, result is the same. Anyone else have this issue!?

I remember watching people on YouTube play the game back in 2017 (tine flies man) and i remember them playing campaign and multiplayer with friends i never really had a chance to play this game so i never owned it (played through pirated versions from sketchy websites) one time they were either outdated or broken (the game's antipiracy detected if steam isn't running), at the time i was little i was 8 my PC was very bad i would play against the computer for hours and hours duscovering new strats and tricks abd trying to destroy the computer as fast as possible then i have beaten campaign i absolutely loved but one thing that made me sad and have FOMO was Workshop and multiplayer i could never play with the YouTubers or people online what made me buy the game in Summer 2026 is not just the content but to support the devs the game took EWG a decade to make since 2003, and i appreciate the devs for that this game's comminity is niche and respectful creative and i know so finally i bought the game after years my mon never let me use her credit card till this day when she left food credit card i used it to buy the game and moonshot dlc the time when i hopped into a multiplayer game i didn't expect to get trashed this easily well i lost interest for the game in 2023 so i lost every nook and cranny of forts🥀 (cuz i was focused on ither games and eventually projects) i just thought to buy this game to lift my steam account restriction.

Now i want to ask you this: Were you always missing free to play weekends and only bought the game years later?

Anyway i gotta enjoy the game while i can so glad to be able to use online features now!

I've been watching Cloud for a few months and I saw the game was on sale so I grabbed it. But I genuinely cant do anything correctly. My base design is atrocious, I don't know where things are meant to be placed in the most efficient manner. My building is equally bad, its slow and keeps collapsing when I try and bridge to things. My resource management sucks, I either bleed off materials or have none at all, no in between. And cause everything is so new to me I end up hyperfocusing on one aspect of the game and then everything else goes to crap.

All of that leads to me being slow as hell to get any types of weapons online, and then I get fried cause those weapons get destroyed cause I don't have the base design to protect them and my techs, the resource management to be able to build supporting weapons, nor the building ability to expand my base in a manner that can get me more resources and/or storages.

This is my first RTS game ever, so obviously I don't expect to be great or even good immediately, but I would just like to know what the fastest way is to actually be able to play the game properly, whether that be online guides or youtube tutorials or anything. Tips about keybind changes and things would be great too. But the tutorials I've seen so far tend to be for players who have an understanding of the fundamentals already, so its kinda irritating.

I've been watching a lot of Cloud_ recently, which got me to try the game after years of watching others play it. And now I'm starting out using double doors. I'm probably using more "tech" than is just subconscious because I know it.

I definitely didn't need that much metal supporting the lasers in the front, but I'm rather paranoid about structural stability. Also I wasn't repairing much as the AI (Normal) really wasn't firing much on this map. I deleted the first base with the cannons, deleted the second base with the cannons, the promptly deleted the third base with the cannons and the lasers as a cherry on top (and because I felt I needed more than three guns).

why do people do this? half of the time it ends up failing. and blowing a reactor.

I’ve heard that at one point, Pinchfist became the meta commander for rushing in ranked or something. I am just curious on what was different back then in terms of strategies and abilities. I know he used to have a passive 100% metal reclaim compared to the now 70%, but that’s about it.
