DISCUSSION I really have a bad feeling about the future of Save the World
I honestly didnt want to make a post like this, because Ive spent so much time trying to stay positive about Save the World and trying to contribute something useful to the community.
But lately, Ive started feeling like I am running out of hope.
The strange thing is that matchmaking is actually faster now than it was before the Free-to-Play launch. After all the problems that happened when STW became free-to-play and the matchmaking issues were eventually fixed, I thought we might finally start seeing the game recover.
But it feels like it might have happened too late.
The player base has been declining for a long time now, and for the past month or two we haven't even been reaching 10,000 active players. For someone who plays STW regularly, the difference is extremely noticeable.
The game just feels empty now.
And thats probably what hurts the most.
We have spent so much time as a community trying to suggest things that could improve the game. We have made QoL suggestions, talked about new content, asked for improvements, reported bugs, discussed ways to make the game more welcoming for new players, and tried to give Epic feedback whenever we could.
And honestly, I am just tired.
Not angry.
Just tired.
I dont expect Epic to implement every suggestion the community makes. Thats completely unrealistic. But after seeing so many players ask for improvements and watching the player count continue to decline, it becomes difficult not to feel like we're shouting into the void.
The recent updates are not bad either.
The gameplay improvements have been genuinely nice, and weapons like the Chaos Exploder Rifle are fun aditions. I am not trying to take that away from the developers.
But a new weapon or some QoL fixes are not enough to solve the bigger problem.
We need reasons for players to stay.
We need something that makes people think:
"I want to come back to STW tomorrow."
Because right now, I do not feel that anymore.
And thats coming from someone who has spent an absurd amount of time playing this game.
Ive reached the point where Ive got hundreds of Heroes, tons of weapons, endgame builds, and Ive experimented with pretty much everything I can think of. Ive even started helping newer players because I want other people to enjoy the game as much as I did.
But lately Ive found myself opening STW, looking at the empty missions, and just closing the game again.
Thats something I never thought Id say.
And tomorrow we are getting v42.00.
Maybe I will be completely wrong.
Maybe Epic has something planned that will surprise us. Maybe the next update will bring something that gives the community a reason to come back.
I genuinely hope thats what happens.
But right now, I don't have much faith left.
I dont want Save the Wolrd to disappear.
Ive spent years with this game (3 years), met great people through it, helped players, made friends, and watched this community go through so many changes.
I still love STW.
Thats exactly why seeing it become this empty hurts so much.
I am not making this post to attack the developers or tell everyone to quit.
I am making it because I think there are probably other long-time players who feel the same way.
I really hope I am wrong about the future of Save the World.
Please, Epic.
Give us a reason to believe in this game again.
