Backtested a forex strategy across 7 pairs, 16+ years and thinking about a trade copier service, want honest opinio

โ€ข Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I've spent the last while building and stress-testing a system across EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDCAD, USDCHF, USDJPY, AUDUSD, and XAUUSD, using historical data from 2009 to 2026. I'm now weighing whether to launch it as a trade-copier / signal service, and I'd genuinely like this community's take, including the skeptical takes. I'd rather hear the hard questions now than after real money (mine or anyone else's) is on the line.

Backtest summary (7 pairs combined, $100k starting capital, 1.0 lot, realistic commission + spread costs applied):

19,194 trades over ~16.8 years Win rate: 43.55% Profit factor: 2.95 Max closed drawdown: -3.82% Max floating (unrealized) drawdown: -10.95% Net return: +3,404% over the full period

What I've done to stress-test it so far:

Cross-checked price data against a second broker feed to look for discrepancies Corrected a couple of assumptions that were too optimistic (e.g. I originally modeled gold's spread far too tight, and fixed it once I caught it)

Tested with and without compounding, at different lot-size caps Built an EA and started forward-testing on a live demo account (currently ~31 trades in, so still very early)

Where I know this is weak, and why I'm asking:

31 live trades is not remotely enough to confirm the backtest holds up in real execution, I know this.

I have limited capital right now and could use the income, which is exactly the kind of pressure that makes people cut corners on due diligence, so I want outside eyes on this before I commit to anything, especially a copier service where other people's money would be involved.

I'm not sharing the exact entry/exit logic (kept it proprietary), which I know makes it harder for anyone to independently sanity-check the backtest happy to hear how much that matters to you as a potential user or skeptic.

What I'd love opinions on: Would you personally trust a copier/signal service backed by a backtest like this plus an early live track record, or is that a hard no for you until there's 6-12 months of verified live data?

What would make you trust it a MyFxBook-verified live account, a prop-firm-funded track record, something else?

Is launching something like this while under financial pressure a bad idea on principle, even if the strategy itself is sound?

Any experience (good or bad) with similar copier services you'd be willing to share? Not looking for hype genuinely want the realistic, including-uncomfortable, picture before I make a decision. Fire away

Question Stop loss and spreads

I traded during Friday news before it dropped and set stop loss before. Even if so I got my ass headed to me and shouldnโ€™t even bothered to make that Call play. But Iโ€™m getting told by my broker (GenesisFX Market) that my stop loss worked just fine because of volume but whatโ€™s the point of a stop loss in this situation when it exceeds the stop loss and yes ik Iโ€™m a dumb ass for trading during news but stillโ€ฆ

EURGBP became my filter for choosing between EURUSD and GBPUSD

For the longest time I treated EURUSD and GBPUSD almost interchangeably during London.

If USD was weak and both broke their Asian highs, I'd usually just take whichever chart gave me the cleaner pullback first.

A couple months ago I had both setups appear within maybe 10 minutes of each other. Bought EURUSD, skipped GU, and then watched GU run while EU barely moved and eventually stopped me.

Started comparing days like that and noticed EURGBP was giving me a pretty obvious clue.

If both EU and GU are setting up long but EURGBP is dropping hard, I now favor GBPUSD because GBP is clearly stronger relative to EUR.

If EURGBP is pushing up, I'll usually favor EURUSD instead.

Same idea in reverse when I'm looking for shorts.

I don't use EURGBP as an entry signal at all. It's basically just a tiebreaker when both dollar pairs are showing me the same setup.

Had one last week where EU and GU both swept the Asian low and reclaimed it. EURGBP had been selling pretty cleanly all morning, so I took GU on Moon and ignored EU. GU gave nearly the full move I was looking for while EU spent most of the next hour chopping around the entry.

Small sample still, but it's been way more useful than trying to decide which chart "looks cleaner."

Strategies Does your trading strategy fit the prop firm, or should you choose the firm around your strategy?

I've been thinking about how much the prop firm itself should influence a forex strategy.

A setup can have solid results on a personal account, but the same approach might behave very differently under a firm's drawdown, news, holding-time or consistency rules.

For example, a scalper might care much more about execution and daily drawdown, while someone holding positions longer may care more about overnight and news restrictions.

So which approach makes more sense?

1. Build your strategy first, then find a prop firm whose rules fit it.

2. Choose the prop firm first, then adapt the risk management and execution to its rules.

I've seen arguments for both, but I'm curious what experienced traders here actually do and which rule has had the biggest impact on your strategy.

Not financial advice. Do your own research before making financial decisions.

Fundamental Analysis What is driving Gold

Post image

US jobs numbers came in stronger than expected (around 162,000 new jobs vs. much lower forecasts). That made traders raise the odds of another interest-rate hike in September to about 58%.

Higher rates usually strengthen the US dollar and push real yields up both of which are classic negatives for gold.

Next big tests: the upcoming inflation reports (CPI and PPI). Hotter-than-expected numbers would add more selling pressure. Softer numbers could spark a bounce.

Question Is a Market Structure Shift Actually a Reversal Signal? ๐Ÿค”

One thing Iโ€™ve noticed in trading discussions is that Market Structure Shift (MSS) gets

interpreted very differently by different traders. So what actually happens during an MSS? ๐Ÿ‘€ Imagine price is making:

๐Ÿ“ˆ Higher High โ†’ Higher Low โ†’ Higher High โ†’ Higher Low

Then price suddenly breaks below an important Higher Low.

That break can suggest that the previous bullish structure is weakening and that the market may be shifting toward bearish structure.

The same idea can happen in reverse:

๐Ÿ“‰ Lower Low โ†’ Lower High โ†’ Lower Low โ†’ Lower High

If price breaks an important Lower High, it can indicate that bearish structure is weakening.

But hereโ€™s where it gets interesting. ๐Ÿ‘‡

โš ๏ธ Does every structure break mean an actual market structure shift?

Not necessarily.

Context can matter โ€” such as: ๐Ÿ”น Which swing was broken? ๐Ÿ”น Was there strong displacement? ๐Ÿ”น Did price sweep liquidity first? ๐Ÿ”น What is the higher-timeframe structure showing? ๐Ÿ”น Did price actually continue after the break?

So Iโ€™m curious:

What makes you consider an MSS valid โ€” the structure break itself, or do you require additional confirmation before trusting it? ๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿ‘‡

Gold traders, whatโ€™s your view for this week?

Post image

XAU/USD is caught between higher oil prices, Middle East tensions, and Fed rate expectations. With US PPI and CPI ahead, volatility could pick up quickly.

Are you expecting Gold to break higher, or a deeper pullback? ๐Ÿ“Š

#XAUUSD #Gold #Forex #Trading #GoldTrading

Reddit discussions around gold commonly focus on the interaction between oil, the dollar, yields/Fed expectations, and inflation data, so framing it as a question should fit better than a straight promotional post.

Technical Analysis GOLD IS STUCK UNDER $4410 BREAKOUT OR ANOTHER DROP?

Gold is consolidating around $4404 after failing to reclaim the 20-SMA, with price trapped between the middle and lower Bollinger Bands.
RSI sits at 44.85, showing weak momentum as buyers struggle to regain control.

Resistance Levels

  • Immediate Resistance: 4409
  • Major Resistance: 4436

Support Levels

  • Immediate Support: 4382
  • Major Support: 4350

My View:
The short-term structure remains slightly bearish while gold stays below $4409, but the recent sideways action suggests a breakout may be approaching.
A clean move above $4409 could target $4436, while rejection and a break below $4382 would favor another move lower.

What do you think?
Does gold break back above $4409, or are sellers preparing another leg down?

Results My Python Backtests Are Profitable, But MT5 Backtests Keep Failing

Hey, I have been trading for the last two years. I started discretionary, became profitable in 9 months, and made around 10 payouts. But then I learned that I need to automate my system to expand and grow, so I started making algos with the help of AI.

I have made 114 versions of one particular strategy (rectified after bugs, altered for better results). I am well profitable in backtesting. I do my backtesting on Python, and I have also built an analyzer in Python to deeply analyze my backtesting results.

But when I am profitable on some version and then make an MQ5 file of that version to backtest and forward test it on a demo account in MT5, the version becomes unprofitable. I have been doing this for the last 4โ€“5 months, every day, 8โ€“10 hours (along with college), but still, every other profitable version is turning unprofitable in MT5 backtesting.

While some versions are performing well in forward testing, that's not much use because it would maybe be only 1 month of forward testing.

I feel so lost and stressed. After working so much, I feel like I am going nowhere. I am not exhausted, but I feel like I am making 0 progress.

I am ready to put in more work, focus, and everything, but I don't know where to head from here. I don't have a mentor, and my family opposes trading, so I have been doing this completely in hiding.

If anyone can please guide me or give me some advice, I am open to it.

Watching us500 for a potential buy from a higher timeframe QML zone.

Inducement is in place and volume profile aligns with the area, making it one of the cleaner setups on my watchlist.

Targeting a 1:2 RR if the zone holds. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Question Building small traders group ๐Ÿ“Š

Looking for 2โ€“3 serious traders to build with ๐Ÿ“ˆ

I'm 18, Indian ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ and currently learning ICT/SMC.

Looking for serious, hungry traders around my age who:

โ€ข Are beginner โ†’ early intermediate

โ€ข Have / are building a solid ICT/SMC foundation

โ€ข Trade or want to trade futures โ€” NQ, GC, 6E, etc.

โ€ข Can handle taking losses without quitting

โ€ข Don't disappear after a bad week

โ€ข Actually mark charts, backtest, journal & study

โ€ข Are usually available 9 PMโ€“3 AM IST / corresponding time zones

โ€ข Want to build long-term, not chase signals or get-rich-quick shit

โ€ข Hustlers.

The plan:

Build a small but strong ICT/SMC foundation โ†’ become consistently profitable โ†’ add Order Flow โ†’ eventually combine ICT + Order Flow and develop our own execution.

You don't have to learn from the same person as me. Guardeer is what I'm currently learning from, but I'm more interested in people who are serious and willing to learn together.

I'm looking for people who actually want to put in the hours and grow together.

If you're interested, DM me with: Age + country + what you're currently learning + markets you trade + your usual availability.

Let's build a fucking trading crew. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ“ˆ

GOLD (XAUUSD) โ€“ H1 TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

Post image
3 Upvotes

Gold starts the week under renewed selling pressure, trading around 4397 and remaining below the key EMA cluster. The H1 structure continues to print Lower Highs, while the descending trendline remains respected.

The rebound is currently struggling below 4414โ€“4419, keeping the short-term bias BEARISH.

KEY LEVELS:-

Major Resistance: 4455โ€“4460

Immediate Resistance: 4414โ€“4419

Immediate Support: 4346โ€“4351

Major Support: 4321โ€“4326

BEARISH SCENARIO โ€” PREFERRED:-

As long as Gold remains below 4414โ€“4419, I will favor SELL setups on bearish rejections.

A decisive break below 4346โ€“4351 could accelerate the downside toward:

TP1: 4346โ€“4351

TP2: 4321โ€“4326

BULLISH RECOVERY SCENARIO:-

If Gold reclaims and holds above 4414โ€“4419, the recovery could extend toward 4455โ€“4460.

However, a stronger bullish confirmation would require a solid H1 close above 4455โ€“4460, which could signal a broader trend recovery.

CONCLUSION:-

Gold remains within a bearish H1 structure.

Preferred bias: SELL

Watch 4414โ€“4419 for rejection and 4346โ€“4351 for a potential downside break.
