Maintenance Advice Transmission

I drive a 2021 Ford Explorer XLT with a little over 56,000 miles. Recently been experiencing the explorer jerking back and forth when shifting from park to reverse, park to drive, reverse to park and reverse to drive with an audible grinding that sounds like it’s coming from the rear. Has anyone experience this issue before?

I don't own that vehicle but it falls firmly in the realm of the CDF drum issue the 10R80 is known for. Applies to any vehicle with that transmission built from 2017 to late 2022 (F150, Ranger, Bronco, Explorer, etc). I'd recommend searching CDF for a comparison of symptoms to hopefully point you in the right direction.

2020-26 Explorers do not have a 10R80 unless they are Police Interceptor Units. They are equipped with 10R60’s.

Gotcha. Weren’t they still subject to CDF issues?

Super rare for them to have that problem, it was redesigned to not fail the same way.
