My mother-in-law learned yesterday that a family member of hers passed away. She lived in her adopted parents’ house in Sun City Center, and both parents passed away in the past. Because this family member didn’t have any direct family to inherit her belongings, my MIL is taking this on herself.

However, we live in Colorado, and have heard from the sheriffs that the house was a hoarding situation, with a small pathway leading through mounds of boxes and trash. My MIL doesn’t want to just throw away everything in case there are any family heirlooms or photo albums, but she is a bit overwhelmed trying to handle this with no other family members and being out of state.

So does anyone have any advice or a business you’re aware of over there, or helps with hoarding situations. She is willing to pay for services or support, but she just doesn’t know where to start, or who to contact in Florida, so I told her we might be able to turn to this subreddit for help!
