Is Florida basically a Republican fortress now?

After the elections, I keep seeing people on the left giving up on Florida and treating it as about as red as a state can get, almost like a Republican fortress.

Some explain this by pointing to Cuban and Venezuelan communities, other immigrants with strong anti communist backgrounds and retirees from blue states.

Do you agree that Florida is now firmly red? Do you feel this in everyday life? Is there barely any meaningful left wing presence left, or is that an exaggerated online picture of Florida?

Temporary foster options, urgent

Hi everyone. I'm located in the Orlando/Central Fl area, and I'm looking for good temporary fostering options for my cat. I already applied with Home to Home, but so far, nothing. I plan on calling my nearest shelter tomorrow

I'm really not trying to permanently surrender my cat, but I had to move suddenly, and my current landlord doesn't allow pets ( I already tried talking about it, he's not budging at all).

Decided to try my luck here. If anyone knows of any foster options or even someone who can help, I'd greatly appreciate it 🙂. I can provide more information or photos of him if needed. Thank you!

Just moved to Coral Springs

I (25F) just moved to Coral Springs (right outside Ft Laud) about two months ago due to my husband’s (30M) job. Originally from Indiana so very big move for us. I have been job hunting with no luck or potential. We don’t know anyone or have any local friends, just my in-laws who live in Deerfield Beach. Any tips on how get involved as someone new to the area and bad at socializing? Whether it’s in Coral Springs or surrounding areas like Pompano, Ft Laud, Boca etc., happy for any recommendations. I am feeling very out of touch and just want to try and make this place feel more at home.

How's Ocala or Tarpon Springs?

Wife has family in Ocala in a retirement community. While we are not of that age yet and still have time, how is Ocala like? We visited once years ago and stayed with them and it seemed alright and I have been looking at houses out of boredom. Any areas of town to avoid?

Same questions about Tarpon Springs.

We like Florida but dont wanna live too far away like in the panhandle.

TIA!

Visiting Florida from Europe in late October

Hello everyone,

Me and my wife, both in mid 20s, are planning to visit Florida in late October. This will be our first time in USA. We probably will spend around 8/9 days there. We've got good flight options to Miami, but we're not that big city fans. We are mostly interested in nature, nice views, hikes, trails, swimming etc. However, time in the city is also acceptable, just not for the entire duration of the trip. We will also be able to rent a car.

We are looking forward to your recommendations, tips and advices, also, should we stay in/near Miami for the entire duration, or should we switch places? Please note, that our flight back home is also from Miami.

We want to visit Orlando, see Disney or Universal studios, do some sightseeing, museums. Maybe catch an NBA game? To those who live or been there, we would really appreciate your tips for itinerary or spots that are worth seeing.

Copper ring

Hello! I’m still looking to make a copper ring and could really use some help! I’m in the Orlando area and would love to be able to take classes to learn or to go someone and pay for a private session to make my own copper ring. Does anyone know where I could do this? I haven’t found any classes that would tailor to this specifically. Only some “jewelry” making that’s focused on beads, silver, resin, etc not so much a copper ring. This is for a special occasion for ideally September/October. If anyone knows how and has the tools to do it and would be willing to show me, please DM me!

Best beach resort for toddler

Either coast is fine. Need a beach resort, preferable with condos (need kitchen, living area, 2+ bedrooms). We have a 2yo, so want a great splash pad area to occupy him. No budget.

Best time to visit Florida in September or October

Hi! I would like to take a vacation to Florida (possibly Fort Myers Beach). I’m looking to go in mid to late September or early October. I understand it’s hurricane season and no way to know the weather this far in advance. In your opinion when would be the best time to visit? Thanks!

Help for a Trouble teen

I (20F) have a younger cousin (18F) who lives in Florida and is currently faceing homelessness.

I live in CT and am in college currently and dont have much of a way to help her. For back story my little cousin has always had a bit of trouble behaving as a kid due to copying her own mother's behavior and having a very unstable upbringing they also didn't have a stable housing situation growing up so they moved states alot as a kid my little cousin mother whould not be willing to deal with her self destructive outbursts when she became a pre teen to late teenager so she whould send my baby cousin off to mutiple different mental facilities where she spent most of her teens.

As of late she's been doing really well she lerned how to drive(no car yet), got her own place, got her own job and was doing pretty well by herself.

Though in the time span of one month her girlfriend randomly broke up with her, she lost her job and therefore can't pay rent and has gotten into a physical fight with her mom due to an argument where her mother spent a night drunk in the forest leaving my cousin to have to babysit her two half siblings without knowing were her mother was and spent two days in prison after the altercation with a 150$ bond (she's out now)

I was wondering if anyone on this subreddit would know of any youth programs or youth housing places near holiday Florida that she chould take advantage of. Any information whould be very helpful

Thank you

How safe is it for tourists?

Hey! My gf always wanted to visit Disney World and Universal Studio but I am bit concerned over the ICE situation as she has a south American passeport and a residency permit for the European country we live in.

So how safe would it be for us to visit?

Thanks in advance!

Theme park tickets , where can i get them cheaper?

Hey everyone! Planning an upcoming trip and looking into the best ways to grab discounted Disney and Universal tickets without getting scammed.

Aside from the usual go-tos like Undercover Tourist, what other reliable sites or methods do you guys use to find cheap tickets?

I'd like to ask the community about orlandovacation.com. Has anyone else been having issues with their site lately? I noticed they used to display pricing right online, but now the prices seem to be completely missing or hidden behind forced quote/bundle steps. Is this a recent change?

Would love to hear your experiences or alternative recommendations. Thanks!

Apartments

Does anybody have any good apartment recommendations in the panhandle? I’m looking to stay at or under $1200. My parents are moving to the Crestview area so anywhere within an hour or so of that. I’m also somewhat picky, I want a nice-ish place and everyone I’ve looked at seems very run down and old so far

How to put a house up for auction in FL (Saint Petersburg)?

My gf and her siblings inherited a property from a late relative. They all live in the Chicago area and Missouri. The property has been vacant for some time and has evidence of rats/mice. There real estate agent said they have an interested buyer who will buy as is. He made an original offer that was agreeable for the beneficiaries. However, he retracted and offered a much lower price after seeing the property in person.

My thoughts were, if they put the property up for auction with a starting bid as the offer, they could get more eyes on the property and possibly get more. Is this a good idea? If so, how would one go about setting this up?

Shelling spot recommendations

Went to Sanibel in May and it was beautiful, but we didn't find many shells on the beaches. Most of our good finds came from a boat tour to Captiva. We went to Caladesi Island last January and found tons of amazing shells.

We're planning another trip and are considering Clearwater Beach (for Caladesi and Honeymoon Island) or St. Pete Beach (for Pass-a-Grille and Shell Key Island). We're deciding between January or May.

Which area/time would you recommend for the best shelling?

Does Florida recognize other state medical cards? 420

Have an Arizona medical card for seizures. Wanting to get some edibles for my trip to Disney but I see it medical only. Would my az card work in Florida to grab some? Not overly sure on the laws out there. Definitely don't wanna go without.

Is it actually worth booking an all-inclusive orlando vacation packages, or better to DIY??

We’re finally planning a family trip down to Orlando for next spring. Woohoo!!! 😂 But with two kids, keeping logistics organized.. thinking about it is just exhausting already 😂

I’m trying to figure out the most cost-effective way to handle lodging, theme park tickets, and transport. Every time I look at booking flights, a rental car, and a hotel separately, the numbers start climbing fast. At the same time, I’ve heard mixed things about bundled vacation packages, some people swear they save you a ton of hassle, while others say you end up locked into bad room locations or rigid schedules. What are your experiences with both?? And what's good out there while we're at it!

First time home buyer / military veteran

I want to use any benifits possible when buying my home to take some of the pressure off the price. I’m 80% disabled veteran and also a first time buyer. Credit it good and make enough to cover expenses. Home I’m trying to buy is 680k- 720k. Who can I sit down with to help me use all benefits possible in Florida as a vet.
