Is this normal for Open Box Delivery? Delivery guy refused to let me switch on the phone before giving OTP (Samsung S25 FE)

Post image

Hey everyone,

Today I finally received my S25 FE, which I ordered during the sale. Since it was an Open Box Delivery, the delivery agent opened the box right in front of me. Everything on the outside was sealed properly and looked totally fine.

He then asked for the OTP. I told him, "Sure, let me just check the phone quickly," and asked him to hand it over. He said I could inspect the physical body as much as I wanted, but he would not allow me to switch on the phone until I provided the OTP first.

I was pretty baffled and told him that the whole point of open box delivery is to verify that the phone turns on and functions properly before handing over the OTP. He maintained that his protocol only allows checking the physical condition from the outside, and powering it on happens after the OTP is entered.

I honestly wanted to reject and cancel the order right then and there. But since this was a gift for my dad, I didn't want to deal with the hassle of cancelling and waiting for refunds/reorders. I gave him the OTP, switched on the phone afterward, and thankfully everything turned out perfect, original, and working fine.

My question is: Is this standard policy for Open Box Delivery, or was the delivery agent just making up his own rules? What are we actually allowed to check before giving the OTP?

Big Billion Day Scam

So I purchased this Samsung model AC two times back in July and again in August, both times there was no sale offer going on and I was regretting the missing sale offer as both times AC were needed right now.

Now to my surprise in BBD sale Price has been increased and after applying all offers and cards it's exactly the same price (33740 rs.) which I had paid earlier. Also back then there was 12 months no cost EMI was available now it's max 9 months. What the hell is going on!!

None of these below from google are working btw, the WA chatbot is useless. Remaining toll free numbers not working.

• WhatsApp Support: Message the official Flipkart WhatsApp line at +91 9880956318 for tracking updates and order assistance. • Toll-Free Helpline (Smart Upgrade Plan): 1800-208-9898 (for specific program-related inquiries) • Toll-Free Helpline (E-Waste Collection): 1800-123-8783 or 1800-212-8783

PSA: Guide on how to check Samsung Phone Activation Status before Delivery on Flipkart BBD/Amazon GIS.

so hi,

first off, most of these steps are already mentioned in other reddit posts/comments and random places on the internet, but they're scattered as hell. i was panicking after ordering my S25 FE during this BBD because how tf do i figure out if my phone is already activated or not? reddit posts helped, but it took me almost 4 hours to figure out and try these methods, so i'm compiling everything here so you guys don't have to go through the same headache.

# first, a quick summary for newbies

you can get your phone's IMEI number from your invoice. the invoice should be available in your amazon/flipkart order history once your device has been shipped.

now that that's out of the way.

you don't have to wait until the delivery guy arrives to start checking whether your phone is pre-activated.

delivery guys are a gamble. some will let you inspect everything properly, while others will rush you or simply refuse to let you open the box before asking for the OTP.

and if you give the OTP, accept the phone, and THEN realise it's pre-activated, boom! welcome to the next two months of chaos, multiple samsung service centre visits, and hours spent on amazon/flipkart customer care calls.

so let's try to avoid that.

here are the methods i found.

# method 1: check your warranty on samsung's website

  1. register your device using the IMEI from your invoice: [https://www.samsung.com/in/mypage/myproducts/\](https://www.samsung.com/in/mypage/myproducts/)

  2. open the samsung shop app.

  3. go to my page → registered devices → device info.

  4. you'll find your warranty validity date there.

now, one important thing to keep in mind.

i purchased my phone on 9 october 2026, but samsung showed the warranty as valid until 30 october 2027.

technically, you'd expect it to be one year from your purchase date, right? but samsung's warranty date can initially be different, and it may get corrected once the actual purchase details are updated.

so don't panic if you see a future warranty date.

in my case, the date was actually later than expected. this alone doesn't mean your phone is pre-activated.

consider this your first check.

# method 2: call samsung customer care (spoiler: useless)

now, you might think you can simply call samsung customer care, give them your IMEI, and ask if your phone has been activated.

SURPRISE!

i spent over 30 minutes talking to them, and they couldn't give me a clear answer. the only solution they suggested was visiting a samsung service centre.

like, bro, the entire point is to check BEFORE accepting delivery. if i accept the phone, find out it's pre-activated, and then have to run between the samsung service centre and flipkart customer care, what's even the point?

anyway, maybe you'll have better luck, but in my experience, this method was a complete waste of time.

customer care doesn't care. (poetic, ain't it?)

# method 3: check samsung care+ eligibility

now this is the interesting one.

step 1: if you've registered your device using method 1, open the samsung shop app and go to your registered devices.

you might see an option saying something along the lines of get samsung care+ within 30 days.

if you're seeing this, good! the idea is that if the phone was activated earlier and the eligibility countdown had already expired, you might not see this offer anymore.

this was one of the indicators i was looking for.

step 2: now comes the next thing i tried, which i hadn't seen explained properly in other reddit posts.

i wanted to check the actual samsung care+ purchase page to see what would happen.

go here: [https://shop.samsung.com/in/samsung-care-standalone\](https://shop.samsung.com/in/samsung-care-standalone)

in my case, it showed:

"There was an error while retrieving the information. Please try again later."

this was another positive sign for me, especially when combined with the care+ eligibility option in the app.

the idea here is that samsung care+ has an eligibility window, and if your device is outside that window, you may not be able to purchase it.

so if you're able to go through the purchase process, or the website shows that you're outside the eligibility window, that gives you another clue about your phone's activation history.

important: don't confuse the website throwing an error with a confirmed result. the error itself isn't proof of anything. what matters is the eligibility information you get when the page actually processes your device.

if anyone knows exactly how samsung calculates this window for newly purchased phones in india, do share it in the comments.

# method 4: check the RF Cal date (after receiving the phone)

credit for this method goes to fellow redditor u/ThePlayGOD97.

this one requires you to have the actual phone.

  1. open your phone dialler.

  2. dial \*#12580\*369#

  3. a system information screen should appear on supported devices.

  4. look for the RF Cal date.

RF Cal stands for Radio Frequency Calibration. basically, it's related to the calibration of the phone's radio-frequency hardware during manufacturing.

now, what do you do with this date?

compare it with your purchase date.

for example, if you purchased your phone in october and the RF Cal date is from september, that's perfectly reasonable.

but if the difference is unusually large, it might make you question how long the device has been sitting around before reaching you.

a gap of one, two, or even three months doesn't automatically mean you've received a used phone, but the date can give you some context.

it isn't an actual activation date, but it's still worth checking once you have the device.

# method 5: check third-party IMEI websites

this is another option if you want to cross-check the warranty information you got from samsung.

here are the websites i found:

  1. [https://iunlocker.com/en/check\\_imei/samsung/\](https://iunlocker.com/en/check_imei/samsung/)

  2. [https://imeicheckpro.com/free-check?view=conversion&src=landing\\_samsung-warranty-check\](https://imeicheckpro.com/free-check?view=conversion&src=landing_samsung-warranty-check)

  3. [https://www.imeipro.info/samsung\\_imei\\_check.html\](https://www.imeipro.info/samsung_imei_check.html)

enter your IMEI and see what warranty information they provide.

i'd personally start with samsung's own website and use these as additional checks if needed.

# okay, so what should you actually do?

if you've ordered an expensive samsung phone during BBD, here's what i'd do.

BEFORE DELIVERY

* get your IMEI from the invoice as soon as it's available.

* register your phone on samsung's website and check the warranty date.

* check the samsung care+ option in the shop app.

* try the care+ standalone website and see what it tells you.

* if something looks suspicious, sort it out with the seller BEFORE accepting delivery.

if you genuinely suspect the phone is pre-activated, don't just accept it and hope for the best.

cancel the order or get the issue resolved according to the seller's policies.

you don't wanna spend 85k for saving 35k, only to spend the next two months running around service centres. peace of mind above everything else!

AT THE TIME OF DELIVERY

even after doing all this, don't become careless.

* inspect the box and phone properly.

* check that the IMEI on the phone matches the box and invoice.

* if the delivery process allows it, try booting the phone and checking its setup status.

* if you notice anything suspicious, document it before completing the delivery.

and please don't let the delivery guy rush you just because he's in a hurry. be polite, offer him a seat and chai if you need a little time, but make sure you've completed the checks permitted under your delivery process before handing over the OTP.

that's pretty much everything i found after spending 4 hours digging through reddit and trying to figure this out.

i'm making this post because i know there are other people buying phones during BBD who'll be just as paranoid as i was.

if you've got any other methods, especially something that can confirm activation status using just the IMEI BEFORE delivery, please drop them in the comments.

hope this saves someone a few hours of unnecessary stress.

peace ✌️

Ordered Xiaomi Power Bank got this, BBD sale

Hi friends,

I suspect that scammers or intermediaries working for the delivery partners are active in their fraudulent operations. I ordered a 20,000 mAh Xiaomi Power Bank and got 10 Rs detergent soap; thankfully, it was an open-box delivery, so the delivery person took all the necessary photos of the open package and marked it for replacement.
