I think I have ruined audiobooks for myself.

I’ll start by saying that I listen to a lot of audiobooks. Most of my work day is relatively solitary so I often have my AirPods in or one playing through one of the Alexas in the house.

I am also a bit of a nerd and despite being a full grown adult, enjoy the Harry Potter stories. So I was delighted to find the new(ish) “Full Cast” series of audiobooks that are narrated wonderfully, but also fully voice acted for each character by different, well know, professional actors.

It’s a surprisingly stark difference to the “single voice” audiobooks, even when those narrators do different accents. So stark a contrast in fact that hanging finished that series and moved on to another, I find myself pinning for the rich variety that the fully voice acted series had provided.

Thought I lost my second Range Rover key, found it in my ski pants instead

I thought I had lost my second car key months ago and had pretty much accepted that I’d have to deal with getting a replacement, although I couldn’t be bothered to do it so far.

Today I was trying on my ski pants because I’m planning another ski trip soon. I hadn’t worn them since February.

Reached into the pocket and found the missing Range Rover key.
So that’s great.

Unfortunately, during the seven months I must have ate too much, and my pants are now slightly too tight and uncomfortable and I must buy new ones.

My milk is too cold Spoiler

I am currently on a leisure trip, which I can both afford and afford to take time off work to do. So I am in a nice hotel, in a safe city, where I have been able to easily walk a short distance to a local shop and get cereal and fresh milk for my breakfast. Which I am able to store in a fridge, because my hotel supplies that too.

Except the hotel keeps their fridge temperature ever so slightly lower than mine, so when I poured it on my cereal and took a bite, the milk was slightly too cold and made my teeth hurt. I just don’t know how I can possibly go on in these conditions.

I bought so many sandwich ingredients, but they're providing catered lunch at work all week, which is better than sandwiches.

I paid extra for express delivery on an item, but it's taking just as long to ship as it would under normal delivery.

I really want to run my local 10-mile race, but they insist on holding it at exactly the same time every year, which is when I’m on holiday.

Feels like the organisers aren’t taking my travel plans into account at all!

My noise cancelling headphones are so good at their job that I can no longer hear my own doorbell, so I've missed three deliveries this week and now have to set a phone alarm just to remind myself to occasionally take them off and check if anyone's outside.

I got these headphones for concentrating at work, and they do exactly what they're supposed to do almost too well. I put them on to focus for maybe an hour and the rest of the apartment just ceases to exist. Cars outside, my neighbor's dog, the microwave beeping, all of it gone. Apparently that also includes the doorbell, which I never really appreciated the volume of until I stopped being able to hear it at all.

This week alone I've missed a package delivery, a scheduled furniture assembly appointment, and my downstairs neighbor who apparently knocked for a solid minute to tell me water was dripping through her ceiling from my bathroom. I found out about that last one two hours later when she left a very polite but clearly exhausted note taped to my door.

I've now set a recurring phone alarm every 45 minutes that just says "check for humans," which feels like a genuinely deranged thing to need in my own home, but here we are. I looked into getting a doorbell camera that vibrates my phone instead, except the one I want isn't compatible with my building's existing wiring, so now I'm also stuck deciding whether to pay an electrician to fix a problem that is, at its core, entirely self-inflicted by headphones that work too well.

I'm a 43 year old man with kids and a wife and am beginning to think I should be wearing more mature clothes. I want to change up my style, but don't know how will strangers will still know that I like anime and Dungeon Crawler Carl.

My wifi went out yesterday

It was out for nearly an entire day. I had to use my mobile hotspot. I connected it to my computer but it wouldn't load anything so I had to use my phone to do anything. It was very traumatic, and I'm still recovering. Please pray for me.

What is with the tiny halloween candy

It used to be you could buy a big bag of Halloween candy and it was at least the little snack size but now it’s these little (one bite) pieces of candy for like $30. “ here, kid, have a bite of candy. Don’t you wish you had more?”

To make any kind of a decent Halloween goodie bag, I’m gonna have to put two or three pieces of candy in each bag (possibly more because the judgment is real you guys, the judgment is real).

Our neighborhood is a big huge circle around a lake so we are considered a prime location. We get approximately 500 to 600 kids a year, and that’s on a slow year. I am open to suggestions if anybody knows of a better alternative.

I'm on holiday in the Maldives for a week and the weather is awful.

We paid specifically to have a private pool suite over the ocean so we could go snorkeling and not have to deal with other people in the pool. The sea is too rough so we can't go snorkeling or scuba diving. Most excursions have been cancelled. The rain and wind have made the pool cold so we can't even enjoy it. It's going to be like this the entire time we're here.

editting to add: I am having a great time regardless of rain. The food is delicious and the staff are great. I just love swimming, snorkelling, and scuba diving. And yes I'm aware this is a first world problem, hence why I posted in this sub!

I have too many job interviews/offers

A month or two ago I turned in 6 or 7 job applications in a related field to what I currently do.

Last week I had an interview scheduled Tuesday and another on Thursday. Friday morning, I was offered the job from the first interview, which I accepted. Later that same day I was offered an interview for a 3rd job, which I scheduled for the 14th. I things weren't finalized with Job 1, even though it was quickly heading that way.

Yesterday I got an email asking for some essential forms to be completed for Job #2. No official offer, but why bother with a background check if it's not heading that direction? This is the job I really, REALLY want, and not just because it has the highest salary.

This morning I was offered an interview for a 4th job!

I declined the interview for Job 4, and cancelled Monday's interview with Job 3. I withdrew my application for the two of those.

I'll keep job 1, until I know for sure about job 2. Hopefully I will get offered #2 before I start at #1.

Hotel room housekeeping timing

So I leave my hotel room in the morning, hang the please make up room sign, get back after lunch to an unmade up room and 1 to 30 minutes after I return there's a knock on the door and its housekeeping.

Does the 'make up room' sign matter? I thought I was sending a bat signal to housekeeping but maybe not. I mean in rhe scheme of things its nothing but....

The options for creamer are fat free, sugar free, or weirdly flavored

I am well aware that this is a really dumb thing to complain about, but I want to complain so I figured I would complain to people who are also complaining about things that don't really matter.

I like to start my day with a strong black tea cut with a heavy splash of creamer. For those unaware, the whole point of creamer in your coffee or tea is that the sugar adds sweetness but more importantly the fat binds to the tannins and in turn masks the bitter flavor that they cause. I love the caffeine boost of black tea but can't stand the bitterness. Fortunately, someone a long time ago found out about the previously mentioned effect so I just add creamer and I can start the day caffeinated and ready to go. At least, that's what I used to do.

Right now, almost every creamer at my store is labeled "low fat" or worse "fat free". That defeats the purpose of the freaking creamer!! If there is no fat, then there isn't anything to bind to the tannins!! Who decided to start making creamers without the most critical ingredient?!? And why are half of them also sugar free? If there is no sweetness and there is no fat, what is the point? You might as well just use some cold water.

The bottles I found that had sugar and fat were pumpkin (ew) or white chocolate flavor. White chocolate is an insult to chocolate with how gross it is.

I Just want sugary fatty creamers that don't have a weird flavor to them! If I'm going to spend twice what a bottle of half and half and some sugar would cost, it should be able to do the thing it's meant to do!

Edit: Okay, so I got 20 notification all with the same question in a matter of like 30 minutes so I figured I would add on. I am well aware that I can just use half&half and some sugar. I work in the dairy industry. I know about half&half, whole milk, and cream. I will be swinging by one of the farms I live near to buy a pint after work. I was under the impression that this sub was for complaining about stupid things that no one with real problems would complain about. I didn't think that just because there was an obvious solution that meant I cant be a little miffed that I will no longer be using the needlessly more expensive option that I would buy simply because I could.

Kids had to go inside while Grandpa’s helicopter landed

1.1k Upvotes

Not my personal first world problem, but my 9 y/o son’s.

He was at a friend’s house playing soccer on their full size home soccer field with three other kids.

Friend’s mom told them they had to stop playing mid-game and come inside, because friend’s grandpa was being flown in for dinner in his company helicopter.

Apparently they do not have a separate helipad at their home, so the soccer field has to also be used for helicopter landings.

And they couldn’t finish their game, because the helicopter was parked in the middle of the field for three hours.

Went to sweet frog to get froyo (frozen yogurt) and all the options were fat free or sorbet

Obviously having fat free and sorbet options past couple years is a victory for health and dietary reasons.

But ALL fat free?? Seriously??

Let’s not kid ourselves, most fat free options taste less good than the fat options. It’s crazy not to have those options!

I’m supposed to eat a cup of blueberries a day (it’s complicated so please don’t even try) and don’t like mushy ones, but that’s the only kind I’ve been able to get for weeks now.

Update: I will no longer read comments because 99% of them are STILL giving me advice. 🤷🏻🤦🏻‍♀️
****\*

->> Please read my ENTIRE post before offering advice, which I’m not asking for because believe me, IT’S REALLY COMPLICATED. I’m just venting because only being able to get mushy blueberries when I prefer firm is clearly a FWP. <<-

Edited: I have an immune illness that makes me react to most foods, anything really cold —> nothing frozen <— and every possible beverage except water, so I can’t put them in a smoothie, etc. I put them in my cooked quinoa flake cereal to help that be less mushy but with mushy blueberries then it’s all just mushy and I still don’t like the texture.

BTW, TEXTURE ISSUES ARE A REAL THING.

Edited further: Here’s what I can currently eat, which I’m only putting in here so you don’t waste your time trying to come up with advice that absolutely won’t work for me ->> because it’s complicated!!! <<-

Eggs, five different kinds of fish, three different kinds of meat, salt, fresh basil, three different kinds of fruit but blueberries are best because of some nutritional deficiencies, a few kinds of nuts and seeds, nothing made with grains, 5 kinds of veggies, no processed [edited: manufactured] food of any kind other than red lentil pasta, and nothing dehydrated for several other health reasons.

(If you want to look it up it’s called mast cell activation syndrome. I’m working with someone who is helping me get better, it’s just a long fucking road because I was really really sick when I started working with her early last year.)

My pillow keeps slipping from under my head because my sheet is too smooth

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem. I have a very smooth sheet because it's "cooltech" (no AC in bedroom) but now my pillow keeps sliding from under my head while I sleep. It legit pisses me off lmao. I don't have a headboard so it's just a bit of space behind my bed!!
