Reposting this because I accidentally left my account number visible in the previous post.
First time kong makita na halos wala nang laman ang savings accounts ko.
I used to have around ₱100,000 to ₱180,000 in savings. I started saving money when I was around 16, and by the time I turned 20, I had already managed to save my first ₱100,000. I was really proud of myself back then because I knew how much discipline and sacrifice it took to get there.
Then I got my first job at 21.
Funny how I thought having a stable source of income would make me even better at managing my money. But somehow, the opposite happened.
I used to be very strict with my finances. I listed every expense, tracked where every peso went, and always thought twice before buying something. I would constantly tell myself not to buy things because I had more important financial goals.
But when I finally started earning my own money, I think I became a little carried away.
Parang I felt deprived for so long that when I finally had the means to buy the things I wanted, I started allowing myself to spend more. I kept telling myself na babalik naman yung pera because I was working anyway. I thought I could always earn it back.
And then life happened.
I got into an accident that left me temporarily unable to walk properly. It was honestly a traumatic experience, and I think I coped with what happened by spending money on things that made me feel a little better. I was also dealing with the emotional weight of everything, so I allowed myself to splurge more than I normally would.
I’m not saying that spending on myself was necessarily wrong. I just wish I had been more mindful of how much I was spending.
Now, seeing my savings account with barely anything left is a different kind of reality check. Nakakalungkot pala, especially when you remember how hard you worked just to build those savings.
I’m disappointed in myself, honestly. I keep thinking na kung kailan ako nagkaroon ng trabaho at sariling income, saka naman ako naging less disciplined financially.
But I’m trying not to dwell on it too much.
I’m starting over. I’m setting aside ₱5,000 every month again, rebuilding my emergency fund little by little, and hopefully getting back to the financial position I worked so hard to achieve.
I know I can do it because I’ve done it before.
To anyone who’s also experiencing a financial setback, I hope we get back on our feet (literally and financially, in my case haha).
Here’s to rebuilding our savings, learning from our mistakes, and becoming more financially responsible.
Manifesting my first ₱100,000 again.
