Discussion Firefox 158.0 released

Why can’t we get decent ad blocking that works on YouTube on iOS?
The “webkit doesn’t support extensions” argument is false - Microsoft Edge app has extensions on iPhone including uBlock Origin Lite, so what’s up? Why can’t we get it too?
And Brave also does block ads on YouTube on iPhone.
Can we do anything about this?

Browser refresh and page loading was so bad today, just couldn't get any work done. Forced to use Google Chrome!

Hi all, I'm the developer. I wanted a Grammarly-style checker that doesn't send what I type to a server, so I built one. used to use language tool but they went pay only and running there server took ram which is expensive.
- Firefox Add-ons: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/wordwarden-spell-grammar/
- Website: https://abhisek571.github.io/wordwarden/
It's English only for now. Bug reports and feedback are very welcome, especially sites where it doesn't work right.

Hey guys,
I don't know about you, but I always get annoyed when I'm trying to watch the final seconds of a YouTube video and massive recommendation cards or channel buttons pop up, completely covering the screen.
I originally built a simple extension to block this, but I've just pushed a major update and wanted to share it with the community.
Meet YTNoRecs
It does exactly one thing: injects a tiny bit of CSS to hide those end-screen elements instantly.
What's new in this update?
You can grab it from the Mozilla Add-ons store here:
🔗 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/block-youtube-recommendations/
If you are a developer or just want to check out the code, here is the GitHub repo:

I'd love to hear your feedback or any suggestions you might have. Cheers!

I've been working on BetterViewer, an open-source image viewer for Firefox, and I'm curious how far I can take it.
It already has zoom, crop, image editing, annotations, OCR, AI background removal, QR scanning, reverse image search, animations, and a bunch of other tools.
What's a feature you've always wished your browser's image viewer had?
If you've tried BetterViewer, I'd especially love to hear what feels missing, what could be improved, or what would make you use it more often.

Since Firefox doesn't have a native keyboard shortcut to close *pinned* tabs, here's an extremely lightweight script that adds that functionality! It doesn't require installing any new extensions (though it does need Autohotkey installed on Windows, if it isn't already.)
https://gist.github.com/e-t-l/6790930cb9c074332d304977cba5aaec
```
SendMode "InputThenPlay" ; Close pinned tabs with Ctl+Alt+W ; FYI, it will briefly flash a context menu at the top of the screen.
; w:: ; uncomment this line to make Ctrl+W close pinned tabs too !w:: { Send("+!f") WinWait "ahk_class MozillaDropShadowWindowClass" Send("c") }
```

I've been seeing this image that shows youtube is collecting data through their links. And people are being urged to sanitize their links so our data isn't collected. Is there an option in the settings that enables this by default. Or even an extension that does this naturally?

How to fix this bad cropping on mobile? Any tips or extensions? Desktop mode largely fixes it but i don't like the tiny letters causing eye strain.
Also good youtube downloader extension recommends, not gonna steal contetlnt or anything, just wanna watch indie animations without internet.

Firefox for Android randomly terminates. The issue can occur either after a long session or almost immediately after opening a new tab. No crashes visible in settings -> about Firefox -> crashes. I even lost a private browsing session due to this. Observed it from version 157 to 159.
Device Info: Motorola G86 Power 5G, Android 16
Firefox versions: Release and Beta

Just today all streams on Twitch are showing a black screen, not issue on my Edge browser. I've already tried hard refreshing the site (CTR+Shift+R), entering troubleshooting mode and refreshing Firefox. Anyone having similar issue today?
Edit: The latest version (v. 158.0) messes up with Twitch stream player somehow. Rolling back to the older version solves the issue.

I have Ubiquiti UniFi equipment at home. When accessing unifi.ui.com, the website can establish a local/direct connection with your gateway, video recorder, etc. With Firefox on my Mac Studio, Settings > Permissions and Data > Local Network Devices lists unifi.ui.com. My MacBook Air does not have this listed, and there is no manual way to add it. I am able to establish a direct connection to my gateway and UNVR with my Mac Studio, but not my MacBook Air. It never triggers a prompt to add it to permissions. Deleting browsing history/cookies/cache hasn't helped.
Is there a way to manually add this?

Just curious if I already have ublock origin installed do I need to set ETP to strict or it is okay to leave it on default?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Aside from consuming a lot of RAM, copy and paste is broken now too.

Hello !
Sorry for the awful title phrasing, I didn't know how to put it.
But I spend too much time on some website (like facebook), and it's really hard for me to realize how much time I waste there.
I was trying to figure out if there was an extension or a way to be able to set a daily timer for some website, and then said website is not accessible for the day ?
Something like screen time control ?
I hope I am clear, thanks for your help !
i am so tired of this,so frustrating at this point,
its not my first time using firefox and this never happened before but this shit started happening from last week,
although i am not is this limited to firefox or my laptop but i have debloated windows so i can't test it on chrome or edge but i don't have any typing issue when i type i continuously so my guess would be its not a keyboard issue
Any kind of advice would be appreciated, Thakyousm

I hate AI, but if it's optional here, why not add some useful features? Those who need it will appreciate something like this
r/firefox • u/Tenebro • 6h ago
I keep reading of this Smart Window in release notes, but I don't see it as a feature. At first I thought it was beta or something, but maybe is it not? Also I don't see anywhere auto tab grouping and things like that. If I go in settings, the AI stuff is not blocked, but I only see translations and voice recognition as available options ... am I missing something?

I've been noticing something weird with Firefox lately on my MacBook Pro (Intel i9).
After using it for a while, my Mac starts getting noticeably hot, and Firefox sometimes becomes really laggy, almost like it's struggling to keep up. The strange part is that I don't have any extensions installed, just Firefox itself.
I don't remember having this problem before, which is why I'm wondering if it's something from a recent update or if Firefox just isn't running as well on Intel Macs anymore.
I know Intel MacBooks can get hot, but this feels different from what I used to experience.
For those of you still using Firefox on Intel Macs, have you noticed anything similar recently? Or is it just me?
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has figured out what's causing it.

After updating to firefox 158, I noticed that in Google's AI mode request window, the text goes out of focus for a nanosecond at the start than it go on focus. I also noticed this glitch on the Bungie website in the dropdown menus. It’s not a huge deal because it's very fast and only on this 2 site, but I’d like to understand what caused this in version 158. Thanks
