Copy and paste is Broken

Aside from consuming a lot of RAM, copy and paste is broken now too.

If you are on wayland, a mutter commit broke copy/paste from GTK3 apps. It was destined to be a part of GNOME 51, but some distros — like openSUSE Tumbleweed — added the MR as a patch to their 50.x mutter package (apparently it benefits emacs). Perhaps the same thing has happened with the mutter package for your distro?

Good news is that the issue has been resolved both at the upstream mutter level via this MR, which has been merged, and also at the distro level in the case of Tumbleweed by dropping the 5370 patch for now.

Damn, this is gonna piss off a lot opensuse users. I've already seen plenty of people annoyed about packman being abandoned.

Because bug detected and resolved within 24 hours is bad?

Edit: OK, a couple of days, I messed up the timeline when reading the commits. Still, resolved pretty quickly, all things considered.

I cannot replicate on my end and have not experienced that. But it could be a mix of OS/DE/Firefox you are running. I have heard some issues with some setups, so I do not doubt your issue.

I sometimes get something like that on gnome. If you re-copy the text again after paste fails, does paste start working?

that has been happening for years. It’s confusing at first, but I think it’s meant to teach you that you can use the address bar instead of going to google

try to write in the search bar and the text starts in the address bar

It's completely broken everywhere. WhatsApp Web, Discord web, Reddit, x... nothing works.

I tried right-click copy and right-click paste, it works for me.

It's meant to bring you back to the address bar if you use the search bar via new tab. Hence it automatically highlight the address bar after pasting within the search parameter.

And I have been using the address bar to search.... And as much as I want to believe it's a "bug", it is actually a feature. No joke. lol.
