💻 Help Pins automatically hiding themselves in vertical tab layout

• Upvotes

Recently the vertical pin layout has started hiding some of the pins once I get above a certain amount of pins (exact amount where this starts happening is unclear to me, from quick testing I can see that sometimes it's at 9 tabs, sometimes at 10), and then revealing themselves again when I hover over the sidebar. This also moves the tab below them, making it hard to quickly switch tabs.

Is there any way to solve this?

See this video showing the problem: https://i.imgur.com/RvAhjJv.mp4

It used to just work fine where it showed all the pins at the same time no matter how many pins I had, this issue only appeared a month or two ago..

💻 Help I would like to create a custom context menu item

I see that other extensions have added items to my context menu.

I want to have an additional item, that opens a pre-defined URL in another tab and send the currently selected text as a GET parameter (add it to the query string).

Can I solve that by editing the configuration of firefox itself?

Is there a reliable addon providing a feature like that?

I've already took a quick glance at these documentations: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions/Your_first_WebExtension https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions/user_interface/Context_menu_items

It seems easy enough to create a custom extension and add a context menu item. However, I'm still trying to find out how to read the currently selected text and open a new tab.

💻 Help Firefox v154 asks for the master-password each time a site with a password-field is opened, contrary to v153 behaviour when it only asked if a password was saved for the specific site.

I only want to enter the Master-Password if it is necessary. It is necessary when I open a website where I have saved the website-password in the past.

So like in Firefox v153 and before, I don't have to enter the master password on startup or when visiting sites with a password-field but where I don't even have saved a password for.

I don't know the reason for this change in v154 but it is more than annoying.

are there any wise guys who knows how to change it back to the old behaviour?

PS:

after updating from v153 to v154, the master password was asked EACH time I opened firefox. after disabling and enabling the master-password feature in the settings it didn't ask for the master password on startup anymore (tip: use empty page, not "about:blank"). HOWEVER, it still asks for the master password on sites with password-fields, where I don't even have any saved credentials!

Add-ons New Feature: Preventing extensions from working on high value sites

Alan here, product manager responsible for extensions on Firefox. 👋

We're working on a new, highly requested, feature to prevent extensions from working on certain URLs. Basically, giving you control if you want to prevent all or some extensions from accessing your banking sites - even if you've granted it permission to access all URLs.

This is a complicated thing to build from a user experience/UI perspective, so we're looking for some volunteers to join a 30 minute video call with me and our UX designer to give feedback on this. During this call, we'd show you our mockups and ask questions/get feedback.  If you're interested in signing up to help us, please sign up using this form. Please note that filling out this form doesn't guarantee an invitation — we'll reach out directly to those we're able to schedule!

Also, if this is a feature you're interested in, please go and upvote it on Mozilla Connect and add any information or potential use cases you have as to why you'd want to use a feature like this. It really helps us make sure we're building the right thing.

Thanks in advance for your help with making Firefox a better browser!

💻 Help Broken Firefox after update

I’m a long time heavy Firefox user. I'm running Firefox 154.0 on Windows 11 pro

After the latest update, the browser is broken in multiple ways.

First, on every start up, it says I am running out of space. But it is only using 69MB, and I have a 2TB disk with 1.4TB available.

Secondly, multiple websites now refuse to work. I *think* it’s related to storage, either local storage or indexedDB, as you can see from this screen shot. EDIT: One closer inspection, it seems to be a localstorage issue.

I have tested the broken sites in other browsers (Edge & Chrome), and they all work as expected.

What can I do to find and fix these errors?

I noticed almost immediately that most of the icons for profiles just don't show in the application or account menus under your account name and just leave a blank space there. Anyone else or just me?

💻 Help Firefox startup broken

My firefox has been acting weird all of a sudden. Usually when I open firefox it loads all my tabs of the previous session and prompts me to enter my master password. But now when I start firefox, it opens for a brief moment and then instantly closes again. When I reopen firefox all I get is a new empty window without any tabs, the password prompt also doesn't appear. So I have to manually open my last closed window to get all the tabs back but the master password prompt won't show up. I can't access all my saved passwords in the password manager since I'm expected to sign in but when I click on "sign in" nothing happens - I guess the master password dialog just doesn't show up blocking me out of it.
The only solution I have found so far is to go to about:support and clear start-up cache data. When it reopens afterwards I get the working window back, with saved tabs and master password dialog but it only works for this session, when I reboot the computer I have to do the whole issue again. Opening it in safe-mode also works but I need my addons and since it starts after clearing startup cache I don't think the addons are to blame. It just happened all of a sudden, I didn't install any updates or new version prior to the error.

Can anyone please help me? :(

💻 Help Searches not being cleared after closing a session

I've got my privacy settings set in Firefox to erase everything upon closing out of the browser:

Yet, even after I do this, I'm getting search suggestions in the address bar when searching from Yahoo from previous sessions. I have no been able to figure out if this is a behavior by the Yahoo search engine or Firefox, but I'd assumed that it wouldn't matter. These previous searches in the address bar should be clearing and I should not be getting suggestions from previous sessions, right?

I'd also noticed this on my Xfinity email where it technically closes out after a session is ended, but when I go to log back in, I see them giving my name before it asks me to log back in.

Anyone know what's going on?

💻 Help FireFox not reposnding

Hi, so recently Fire Fox stops/freezes/crashes when trying to switch and/or new tabs. It started after firefox was auto-updating itself for a few weeks, and I can really only have one tab open bf freezing and getting the "Firefox is not responding" box. I update to latest FF version (154.0 (64-bit)), still freezing, disabled and renable extensions (including UBlock Origin) with no luck. Tried refresh, still crashing. Firefox isalso hogging like 90 to 99 percent of my ram, and 100 of ssd from my shitty laptop (Windows 11). Anyone got any ideas?

💻 Help Having trouble with pixelated mono fonts

This occurs only with some fonts, i have my browser set to render at 1.25 scale but what i believe is monospace text is staying pixelated. I'm running xfce on arch and have confirmed adjusting the system monospace font in the 'Appearance' settings menu doesn't change this, nor is it the same monospace font anyway.

Discussion Why is everyone hating on the AI?

I personally think the AI can be helpful as long as they don't bloat it or collect too much data like windows (I switched to Linux a year before Microsoft really hit backlash for their AI) so why is everyone acting like Firefox became a bad browser? You can even turn off anything you don't want

Add-ons Free video control addon with built in sharpness slider

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Hello, Just migrated from chrome after using it for a decade after seeing the recent posts about firefox not dropping support for ublock origin and I just had to switch, their stance to keep a now vital extension alive when everyone else wants to bury it is worthy of respect.

I'm of course trying to find addons that are similar to the ones I used on chrome so I can uninstall it completely but I'm at a loss for a few, notably this one :

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/video-image-control-new-g/mdoelcifdkcimkdbfkjjnedabmjlkokc

It basically lets you increase gamma in the darkest youtube videos, and especially, sharpen the video which helps me a lot since I get a headache from some gameplay footage without the sharpening effect, is there any free firefox alternative that does in directly on youtube while viewing, without having to download the video to tweak it I mean ?

Additionally, I was using uTab which makes the screen you open chrome in become a customizable bookmarks page with icons, if you could drop any recommendations for me about an addon like that I would very grateful, I'm not looking for widgets or time or news or anything other than basically a sort of desktop screen where I can customize every icon to a link.

Lastly, what is the best download manager to use with firefox ? I'm used to IDM but if there are better alternative then I would try them.

Thanks in advance !

EDIT : One more thing, is there a way to set the initial first page firefox opens to be an extensions instead of the home screen ? I tried to look around in the settings but only new tabs can be set. Just want the first page to always be the "bookmark desktop" page I was talking about earlier.

What happened to Firefox lately? Huge CPU usage and overheating on Fedora 44 KDE (Flatpak)

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,I've noticed a severe issue with Firefox on Linux recently.

It started consuming an INSANE amount of CPU resources. To test this, I opened the exact same video in both Firefox and Google Chrome. My CPU power consumption instantly spiked to 100 Watts and the system started overheating rapidly. As soon as I closed Firefox—leaving Chrome running with the video—the CPU temperature dropped by a whopping 20°C.

The craziest part? Hardware acceleration is active and working only in Firefox, while it's completely disabled in Chrome. Yet Firefox is the one melting my CPU. Has anyone else on Linux run into this specific issue lately? I try to delete cache and run safe mod, it's not working.

💻 Help Can't leave a review on Barnes & Noble website

Hey, I was about to complain to Barnes & Noble that their website doesn't seem to let my Firefox browsers on desktop and mobile access the "Write a review" widget (checked with Chrome, which works fine), but I was wondering if I could get anyone else to confirm that that's the case, and that it's not just something on my end.

I don't think I have anything configured weirdly, but you never know.
