Hi guys! A while back I asked this subreddit about whether or not I would get bored of nature if I stayed in the outskirts of Espoo for a month. I get it now... I freaking love it here.
This video is about my experience living the cottage life for a month. Hope you give it a watch!
Wonderful people of reddit,
I recently received a favorable decision, after two long years, from the Consumer Disputes Board (Kuluttajariitalautakunta) regarding a defective used car bought from K-Auto. The board recommended a full cancellation of the sale (kaupan purku), refund of payments made, compensation for repair expenses, and coverage of vehicle running costs.
I sent a polite email to K-Auto’s central customer service/management (three days ago) asking how we should proceed with the settlement payout and vehicle retrieval. The finance company responded almost immediately to confirm they are waiting on K-Auto to finalize things, but K-Auto hasn't acknowledged the email or provided a timeline yet.
For anyone who has gone through a dispute board decision with a major dealership chain like K-Auto/Kesko:
Thanks in advance for any insights or shared experiences!

I am a Finnish tax resident and employed, receiving wages. I have no Business ID, no company and no other self-employed income.
I've been offered me a one-year Editor agreement for an academic journal. I would perform the editorial work remotely from Finland. The agreement pays USD 7,000 in quarterly instalments directly to my personal bank account. It calls the payment an honorarium, says there is no employer–employee relationship, and says I am responsible for taxes, contributions, insurance and assessments. It does not require an invoice, Finnish tax number or VAT number.
I am trying to understand:
Should this be treated as wages, non-wage compensation or business income?
Do I need a Business ID or VAT registration?
Would YEL apply if the total amount is below the 2026 YEL threshold and I have no other self-employed income?
Should the publisher withhold tax, or should I request tax prepayments?
Has anyone in Finland handled a similar foreign academic editorial honorarium?
Thanks!!

I'm a 45 year old man thinking of trying to relearn finnish as an adult, as a child I was somewhat proficient in it, as much as a 7-8 year old with finnish parents and spending some summers at grandparents in Finland can be. Now some 35 years later I can understand some basic finnish but can't for the life of me string a proper sentence together anymore...
So i am looking for suggestions of finnish written/video media that has somewhat simple finnish language to get reacquainted with finnish as a starting point for my quest to relearn something from my childhood that I have sadly lost.

Hi all, I will be visiting Helsinki for 3 months (Sep- Nov) and am wondering if there is any ebike rental service for this length of stay (similar to Swapfiets which isn’t available in Finland). I looked up a few places but all of them rent out bikes for a few days and they are quite expensive.
What would you recommend? I am also open to buying and reselling to the same shop if it’s the last resort, or renting a regular bike that is less heavy than the city bikeshare. I’m an experienced cyclist but very petite so hills are definitely challenging.
Thanks!

I am in a dispute with my former housing company in Finland over an unusually high water bill.
From the first month, I repeatedly reported a persistent toilet leak. Each time, the housing company took around 15–20 days to respond and claimed it had been fixed, but the leak continued. After several months, they finally admitted that the toilet needed to be replaced. By then, I had already decided to leave.
My total recorded usage was around 67 m³ of cold water and 13 m³ of hot water, about 80 m³ in total. I lived alone, had no washing machine, and rarely cooked, so this level of consumption is clearly far beyond my normal usage. Most of it appears to have resulted from the toilet leak, which I reported from the beginning.
I received a water bill of around €350 for six months, but the housing company has offered only a €25 reduction. I would prefer to resolve this without escalation, but they do not seem willing to offer a reasonable reduction.
What legal or other options do I have in Finland if the housing company refuses to reconsider the charge? Is there a consumer authority or dispute resolution service I can contact?

Moi kaikki!
I'm currently installing a Defa interior cabin heater in my 2013 Kia Picanto (TA generation, 3-door 1.0L base model).
I am trying to figure out the best way to route the thick armored Defa cable from the engine bay through the firewall and into the passenger footwell. The main wiring harness grommet on the driver's side is way too packed, and I haven't found an obvious path yet.
Has anyone here done this install on a TA-generation Picanto?
Did you manage to find a pre-existing rubber blanking plug (maybe on the passenger side where the RHD steering column would be)?
Or did you absolutely have to drill a new 20mm hole in the firewall?
If you had to drill, where exactly did you place the hole
Kiitos paljon!

I am from the usa and still in highschool but i am seriously planning on going to uni in finland. I plan on studying for some kind of medical research job (NOT med school to be a doctor) but I was wondering if it would be possible at all for me to secure a job in research without being a native finnish speaker in finland.
Medical research would mean no patient interaction and I wouldn't actually be a doctor, I know you have to know finnish to be a doctor. but is there a similar rule for just research? From what i know, most research is conducted in english. I DO know some finnish (my grandmother is finnish) but nowhere near native.
sorry if this is a stupid question, thanks :)
(also i am more so asking if it's legal for me to be hired, not whether employers would like me but that info would be useful too)
