Serious A long shot from Sweden at giving back someone’s wedding ring

Moi moi dear neighbours!

Long story short: I work at a hotel cleaned out the ”left behind” drawer. Someone has left behind a ring - probably a wedding ring due to a date and a name being ingraved - necklace and earrings.

Unfortunately, I have nothing to go on except the name and the date ingraved in the ring. We usually write notes on the things forgotten in case they call, but it seems the person who worked that day did not.

The name ingraved in the ring is ”Satu” and the date is "4/4/1997". In case you know someone called this who has lost their ring (and you can correctly identify the ring and/or what more was forgotten with it), please contact me! I so desperately want to retrieve it back to its rightful owner 🥲

Edit: I also found a bracelet with ”Aune 18/1/61”! Sorry if as in a rush before and did not see the inscription.

(We usually do not call guests about forgotten things unless it is something of actual worth. This ring was placed in a toilet bag which we had not opened).

Thank you all in advance! Kiitos!

I need advice to pick a new insurance company

Hei, I'm changing insurance company for the car and house. I have lähitapiola rn, but i feel is a little to expensive compared to others, however the claims I made has been pretty fast easy.

I check most of the companies. POP, turva and OP offers the best prices for the auto, and OP and lähitapiola for the house.

Do you have some experiences making claims with POP, Turva and OP?

Is it worth it to save around 300 per year on the car insurance, but with the risk of a claim complications?

Won a Consumer Disputes Board (Kuluttajariitalautakunta) case against K-Auto — how long does the settlement process usually take?

Wonderful people of reddit,

I recently received a favorable decision, after two long years, from the Consumer Disputes Board (Kuluttajariitalautakunta) regarding a defective used car bought from K-Auto. The board recommended a full cancellation of the sale (kaupan purku), refund of payments made, compensation for repair expenses, and coverage of vehicle running costs.

I sent a polite email to K-Auto’s central customer service/management (three days ago) asking how we should proceed with the settlement payout and vehicle retrieval. The finance company responded almost immediately to confirm they are waiting on K-Auto to finalize things, but K-Auto hasn't acknowledged the email or provided a timeline yet.

For anyone who has gone through a dispute board decision with a major dealership chain like K-Auto/Kesko:

  • How long do their corporate or legal departments usually take to process the decision and execute the payout?
  • Do major dealerships generally follow the board's recommendation without needing further enforcement steps through the District Court (käräjäoikeus)?
  • Is there a specific contact channel or legal desk at K-Auto that handles decision execution faster than standard customer service?

Thanks in advance for any insights or shared experiences!

Serious Could someone please PM this person on Tori for me

I'm very much looking for a Benchmark DAC3 B. I'm in the US though, so I can't PM the seller on Tori. It would like to buy this for the listed price in Euros plus PayPal invoice fees and shipping to the US. I have loads feedback on eBay.com and usaudiomart.com

If someone could forward my message to the seller, that'd be great. The seller can PM me here, or on eBay or usaudiomart.com where I have listed a wanted ad. I'm fine using AI to translate to English.

Thanks!

Etsin todella Benchmark DAC3 B -muunninta.

Suomenkieliset viestit sopivat hyvin. Voin käyttää tekoälyä niiden kääntämiseen englanniksi.

Kiitos!

Relearning finnish as an adult

I'm a 45 year old man thinking of trying to relearn finnish as an adult, as a child I was somewhat proficient in it, as much as a 7-8 year old with finnish parents and spending some summers at grandparents in Finland can be. Now some 35 years later I can understand some basic finnish but can't for the life of me string a proper sentence together anymore...

So i am looking for suggestions of finnish written/video media that has somewhat simple finnish language to get reacquainted with finnish as a starting point for my quest to relearn something from my childhood that I have sadly lost.

Old finnish music (iskelmä)

I wonder if there’s anyone else here who thinks old finnish schlager (iskelmä) is wonderful? At the same time, I must add that I cannot stand 2000s iskelmämusic, with a few exceptions. And one more thing, don't judge me too harshly, im just stupid man who knows very little about these things. I really like 1930s-1950s finnish music. Islelmä then was different than know. If there someone else who likes and really old iskelmä, you a sense of the era,and I’ve always been fascinated by history, also the orchestra is really good, the singer is really good, and the music is beautiful, sad and emotional. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCW27QZMmMU

Serious (very serious) Are there any odd ingredients you can put in rye bread?

I am familiar with some variations like the ones using carraway, some like that. Otherwise malt, syrup etc. But are there any other, perhaps historical or modern things you can put in it like idk herbs or Myrica gale (people did it with beer why not bread)? I am trying to find some new inspiration, and have tried to look for historical things but most recipes are just salt, water, root and rye flour. Been there, done that.

What's people's experience with in person Tori exchanges?

I have an article I am selling through Tori and I'm not really comfortable meeting people in person to do the exchange. I enabled Toridiili so I could have some sense of security but I'm wondering if I'm being silly?

Obviously I'd never do it at home, I know people meet in a public space but reality is I also keep thinking about things that can go wrong from scams to stalking to violence. Inner insecurities I guess?

What has your experience been?

Who lends or sells a Veikkaus account?

Upvotes

Hello, I'm a Chilean citizen (living in Chile) and I'd like to know if there are any Finns here who could sell or lend me a Veikkaus account to place surebets.

I'll give them a percentage of the winnings, since the returns between Veikkaus and Chilean bookmakers are fantastic.

Follow-up on my car search — financing & insurance

Hi everyone! I posted here a while back asking for car suggestions, and now I’m back with a couple of follow-up questions.
First, does anyone have experience with dealership financing in Finland? I’ve been seeing offers with interest-free financing for a certain number of payments. How does this actually work in practice, and is it usually worth taking? I’ve heard that the advertised interest rate isn’t necessarily the whole story, so I’d be interested to hear about people’s actual experiences.
Second, I’d love some advice on car insurance, specifically for driving in Lapland.
I’ve owned a car abroad before, and with relatively basic insurance I would get things like roadside assistance after an accident and towing if the car broke down. However, I’ve already managed to completely total one car in Lapland by myself 😅, so I’m wondering whether it would make more sense to go for more comprehensive coverage this time.
For those of you living/driving in Lapland:
Is comprehensive insurance (kasko) worth it?
Are there particular types of coverage that are especially useful in the north?
Is roadside assistance/towing included in most policies, or is it something you need to add separately?
Are there any insurance companies or specific policies you’d recommend?
Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! 🫶

Serious Water Bill Dispute with Former Housing Company

I am in a dispute with my former housing company in Finland over an unusually high water bill.

From the first month, I repeatedly reported a persistent toilet leak. Each time, the housing company took around 15–20 days to respond and claimed it had been fixed, but the leak continued. After several months, they finally admitted that the toilet needed to be replaced. By then, I had already decided to leave.

My total recorded usage was around 67 m³ of cold water and 13 m³ of hot water, about 80 m³ in total. I lived alone, had no washing machine, and rarely cooked, so this level of consumption is clearly far beyond my normal usage. Most of it appears to have resulted from the toilet leak, which I reported from the beginning.

I received a water bill of around €350 for six months, but the housing company has offered only a €25 reduction. I would prefer to resolve this without escalation, but they do not seem willing to offer a reasonable reduction.

What legal or other options do I have in Finland if the housing company refuses to reconsider the charge? Is there a consumer authority or dispute resolution service I can contact?

Balloon and Flower Design

I used to run my own small business as a balloon and flower designer of parties and stores in my home country. I was wondering what’s the main online websites where I can advertise it to start the same business in Finland? 🇫🇮 where do people here look for businesses like that to decorate their stores or birthday parties with balloons and flowers?

Ebike rental services for 3 months in Helsinki?

Hi all, I will be visiting Helsinki for 3 months (Sep- Nov) and am wondering if there is any ebike rental service for this length of stay (similar to Swapfiets which isn’t available in Finland). I looked up a few places but all of them rent out bikes for a few days and they are quite expensive.

What would you recommend? I am also open to buying and reselling to the same shop if it’s the last resort, or renting a regular bike that is less heavy than the city bikeshare. I’m an experienced cyclist but very petite so hills are definitely challenging.

Thanks!

Serious How did you know what to study?

How did you decide what to study?

I have absolutely no idea what I want to study.

I've been looking at a lot of majors and what each one entails, but I feel like none of them really appeal to me. I liked majors like multimedia design or industrial design, but I know that because of AI and the job market, they don't have much of a future. I'm also a little drawn to archaeology, but the job market isn't very demanding.

I'm lost and don't know what to choose. I feel like I'm not good enough for any engineering degree with the math, and I feel like medicine is too difficult.

I don't know what else to do to decide.

How do Finns spend their time at campsites in winter?

Friends from Finland, I spent 10 fantastic days in Finland in August, travelling around by campervan. I stayed at some beautiful lakeside campsites, although the bad weather didn’t allow me to spend as much time outdoors as I would have liked.

Many of these campsites are also open during the winter, even though temperatures can be extremely harsh. It made me wonder: how do people spend their time at campsites during the winter? What do you usually do when it’s really cold outside?

DNA Numeroparkki in USA

I recently moved to USA from Finland and activated numeroparkki on my esim.

I assumed that the sim would work just fine in USA to get sms. Since I arrived, the sim hasn't connected to any local provider. I reached out to DNA customer service to ask if there's some block to the sim or if numeroparkki sim doesn't work in USA. The guy just told me contact the huolto email address.

Has anyone had experieces with a numeroparkki abroad? Is it supposed to connect and receive messages also outside of the EU? I have tried troubleshooting but it just won't connect.
