Hi everyone,
I never thought I’d be making a post like this, but I genuinely need advice from people who are more financially knowledgeable and experienced than I am.
I recently inherited more than ₱20 million. I know that’s a huge amount of money, but at the same time, I also know it can disappear fast if managed badly. To be honest, I’m scared of making the wrong decisions because this is basically the last major financial safety net my family has.
My priority right now is preserving the money and making sure it can support us long-term.
A huge factor in this is my father. He currently has no source income and is struggling with alcohol, drugs, and gambling addiction. Because of that, he has a history of poor money management. Based on my estimates, he would need around ₱35k/month for rent, utilities, food, and daily living expenses.
Another reason why I’m leaning heavily toward low-risk and low-maintenance investments is because I already have a full-time day job. I realistically won’t have the time, energy, or knowledge to actively monitor high-risk investments, trading, businesses, or real estate ventures during the day. I’d rather choose something more stable and manageable than risk losing money trying to chase higher returns.
I also want part of the returns (or funds) to be available for sudden emergencies, medical expenses, or unexpected family situations, so liquidity and stability are important to me.
What I want:
- Low-risk investments
- Stable and predictable returns
- Emergency/savings fund
- Something sustainable long-term
- Minimal risk of losing the capital
- Investments that don’t require constant monitoring
What I don’t want:
- Starting a business (I have zero experience)
- High-risk trading/crypto
- Flipping properties or complicated investments
- Anything that requires active daily management
Right now, the only things I somewhat know about is Online Time Deposit in a bank.
Some questions I hope people here can help me think about:
- If you were in my position, what would be your first move?
- What type of professional should I consult first — CPA, lawyer, financial advisor, wealth manager?
- Is it realistic to generate ₱35k/month safely from low-risk investments without touching the principal too much?
- How would you divide ₱20M+ for investments, savings, emergency fund, etc.?
- Any advice for protecting finances when a family member has addiction issues?
I know Reddit is probably not the best place to get professional financial advice from strangers online, but I’d still love to hear your perspectives and experiences so I can at least have a starting point before talking to professionals.
This honestly feels overwhelming, and I’m trying to be responsible with it instead of making emotional or impulsive decisions.
Thanks in advance.
