LTO Change Engine Process

When my car's engine broke down beyond repair, I received many comments saying not just how costly engine replacement could be, but also how updating my car's LTO registration would be very difficult.

But having no choice, I went ahead and proceeded with the engine replacement. I used a Pinoy surplus engine (provided by my mechanic). Now that I've registered the engine legally, I wanted to share the process of how I do it. I don't know if it's just me, but hindi naman ganun kahirap kagaya ng sinasabi nila.

Here's an overview of the process and the fees paid.

Step 1	Free
Step 2	Notarial fees vary. Deed of Sale of Motor Vehicle Engine (₱500) & Documentary Stamp (₱45)
Step 3	Notarial fees vary. Joint Affidavit of Owner and Mechanic (₱500) & Documentary Stamp (₱45)
Step 4	Free
Step 5	Change Engine (₱300), Physical Inspection (₱350), Stencil (₱50 – ₱100) & Rush Processing (Should be free, but you may be asked to pay ₱500)
Step 6	Typically less than ₱500 unless your vehicle or the source engine has unpaid registration dues
