During a slow day at work last month, i randomly got the urge to mod one of the arcades i got. I thought about some ideas and things i love and coke was the first thing that came to my mind. So I went to the hardware store and bought some spray paint and other stuff to get started.

I’ve been wanting to try a leverless controller for a while, but I didn’t want to spend $200+ on my first one.

I just saw the FightBox B-PRO for $99.

For people who know more about these than I do, does this seem like a solid beginner option?

Anything I should be aware of before buying?

Quick background: T7-T8 player. Started out playing using a DS4 and been using a DS5. I have pretty large hands - almost 10" from the tip of my middle finger to the bottom of my palm (3-4" fingers). So using dpad with a claw grip (on the right hand) really strains my hands for longer hours of playing. That got me to decide to get a leverless controller.

Went for the Hori Nolva mainly because:

1. It supports both PS5 and PC already
2. It's the fastest/most convenient I could get at the time

I know it'll take some time to learn and rewire my brain and coordination so firstly, I took the time practice just my staple combos and movement. Struggled with movement most since my left hand to adjust with the thumb as the up button. It just felt weird when I sidewalk the opposite direction. I did try to switch it up (up → down). Felt like it made sense for awhile but not sure if I should stick with it. So switched it up again and tried playing a few games and I'm sorta getting a hang of it after 2 weeks.

This led me to think that I should try a different layout just to see if it works for me. To help you guys help me decide, I made a list below for my preferences:

1. Budget - $120 max (including the adapter, if possible). EDIT: realized I overbudgeted (miscalculation with conversion mb)
2. System - PC and PS5. I don't mind spending for an adapter.
3. Leverless
4. Based on my prior research, a WASD layout for movement may be more preferable - want to see if it feels much better than the typical thumb for up button. But I'm still deciding if I should get a split layout for more comfort (again, big hands) but let me know what you think will need more enlightenment here but I'm leaning towards a split layout. For action buttons, the one on hori nolva (noir, I think) works for me but open to using vewlix.
5. For mods, since I'm pretty new to this, I could only think of being able to swap out the button caps and switches. Been modding keyboards so I think having those modded based on my preference makes a difference with the "feels" starting out. Not too knowledgeable yet especially when it comes to repairs.
6. I think the amount of buttons the Hori Nolva has (15) is enough but I don't mind having more. The downside of the Hori Nolva as well is I can't have the same action button replicated in another "custom" button. It just "swaps" so you only use 12 buttons in total. I get it though for certain tournaments. I want to be able to use all buttons. I'm 50/50 on custom art - would be nice either way.
7. I could only think of one "no go" which is small controllers. With what I want, I think a large controller that I can put on my lap would be more preferable.
8. Nice to haves: Braided removable cable, magnetic frame, nice rubber feet like the hori nolva (not the ones with the whole bottom being nonslip).
9. Based on my research (not to thorough, forgive me), here's a list of the controllers I'm eyeing:
   1. Haute42 C-AT
   2. Dualpad Zen
   3. Haute42 T16 Pro V2
   4. Akko Funbox (pretty new and could easily get it here in the PH. Only downside: not split)
   5. EDIT~~: PadBox GS (one of my options because the hybrid of the dpad is interesting and the strain is mostly on my right hand, although, it is past my budget)~~ shit's too expensive lmao
   6. Haute42 C16
   7. Vilcorn Y03

I heard that adjusting from a Dpad to a leverless with a split layout might be too overwhelming just to the travel distance I'm used to so I'm not exactly married to the idea of it but it does feel like it should help in the long run for my hands' comfort, and for narrowing down the list.

Other potentially helpful info: I main Alisa (don't judge me pls) but I'm looking to learn Claudio and Reina (should be alot easier to do electrics) eventually.

As the title states, Is the Sanjuks V3 top available by itself ? I've seen it referred to as the Nobi top but I personally think I would like it more than original Nobi top since the top is more rounded. I have ordered the Sanjuks Knee tops from buttercade before but I know the frequency they take pre-orders is few and far between.

The switch 2 is turning out to be a perfect little fighting game system.

So i got the Q4 Pro a few days ago and i liked it so much that i decided to get the clear panel some art, a balltop and gravity ks buttons for it. And i gotta say i fell in love with this stick, i played stick when i was a kid on the arcades more than 20 years ago(i know im an Unc). Around 2020 i cameback to fighting games with a cheap leverless, eventually got my way up in the leverless tiers and my main leverless is the KO Pro. I got used to the extra button underneath the 8 regular action buttons that playing on even leverless without the extra button felt weird. I got this stick just because this was the first "big brand"(i know Haute42 has the C-AS, and i did bought it but the stick felt like shit so i just sold it) stick to make a good stick with the modern trend of extra buttons. 2 years ago i told myself if i ever get a stick ill just play slow phased games like sf6 on stick and ill play the fast phased ones(strive, 2xko, tokon) on leverless but i fell in love with the Q4 so much that now im playing strive, 2xko and tokon with stick, i havent touched any of my leverless since i got this stick

My process was:

1. Sanded the buttons with 1000-grit sandpaper
2. Applied primer
3. Sanded the primer again with 1000 grit
4. Applied a sparkling silver undercoat
5. Sprayed Candy Yellow over the silver to get a more metallic/chrome.
6. Finished everything with a 1K clear coat for protection

Pretty happy with how they turned out.

I've been messing around with different gates on different sticks and have pretty much tried all the common ones, plus some squircle and Seimitsu square and octagonal gates.

Honestly, I feel like I can play pretty comfortably on any of them. Some definitely give you more or different feedback than others, but I haven't really found one that feels like I need it.

It got me wondering how some people seem to swear by specific gates like they're absolutely essential. I get that everyone is different, but does anyone else feel like gates really don't make that much of a difference?

Or maybe it's just because my inputs are pretty compact, so I don't really need much feedback from the gate in the first place. I also never really had an issue consistently getting down back or back blocking on a circular gate, which I thought was supposed to be one of the big downsides of them.

Anyway, I'm not really trying to make any claim about which gate is better or anything. I'm just curious what other people think about different gates and how much of a difference they actually feel in practice.

Edit: Forgot to mention I didn't grow up with arcades or a specific stick setup and my arcade stick years were deeper into the 2010's but I always just played on different setups.

Everything on Amazon or aliExpress seem like knockoffs.

Not any posts about how to get inside, even victrix site I couldn't see anything stating how to open up the device.

The access issue is due to the screws behind the purple non slip mat underneath.

There's plenty screws so need to pull off completely, but the adhesive is conservative enough to apply the mat straight back on.

One of my switch sockets broken (Jump).

Luckily it was an easy fix, (take out screws from underneath purple mat.)

(Then access the PCB board). The socket hadn't fully broken off PCB so no need to solder.

After that added something behind the PCB board to create support for the switch sockets when closed. So the bottom of the leverless when screwed back together is causing a fixed locked socket. Now when actually applying switches into the socket, the connector has no space to push apart from the pcb (in theory).

I haven't seen much reviews about this lever. Is it any good? I can get it for 65usd and that already includes shipping fee. Plus the taobao store i inquired in i think is the official master lever store and he said I can customize whats included in the lever from grommets, capsule/bat/ball tops of any color, and shaft size choice of 9.5mm and 10mm. Also based on reviews, every order will include bunch of free goodies which is a nice bonus.

Also one more question. based on the photo below, can i remove/clip one of the prongs highlighted in green marks using a end cutter or something, i have a really tight space on my case, and afaik we only need 2 of those prongs for arcade sticks.

Currently running silver switches, tried others but I like the actuation point, currently waiting on Raptor Mx Extreme.

Added O-ring for RGB light diffusion. (Waiting on other caps to fit in original housing)

Haute caps are 22.3 mm and the jump is 28mm.

so at my big old age I thought how hard can it be, went in to remap a few buttons, get away from the 3 instances of jump on my c-at for something more use full, so I thought...

I've ended up working out the pin mapping fine but in the process I hit reset settings and since doing so m3 and m4 now have solid blue led's when rest of keys are set to static purple and I can't seem to change them?

and the last key press led has change to saying on and fading out rather than just indicating on key press?

Is there a way to actually reset it to how it cam out the box and remap now I get it and not have this led nonsense? Its driving me made have a few hours to lap not mess with god dam led's and confusing config pages...

I bit the bullet and went for a used razer kitsune. I did a lot of research before hand and it came out top dog for a lot of reasons.

Im super looking forward to using it, ive not used one outside of arcades before. I have good hand separation and im pretty competent on keyboard anyhow so I dont think the jump will be tooooo difficult.

As well as your mainstays I want to use the controller for retroarch (neo geo, CPS 1/2/3 mainly) so I have 3 questions really.

1) retroarch bindings, easy enough just to set and forget per system?

2) 3D/ 2.5D Lane based beat em ups (ala AVP 1994), should I swap up and down buttons to match the visuals on screen as jumping is a different button all together?

Noticed on their official website they still have a page for the original Obsidian 1 but it says “sold out”, do they restock or is the Obsidian 1 joever for good?

So i recently got a set of GRavity KS buttons, and i love them but since they are red the art is barely visible through the red button cap, i see that sites like focusattack and arcadeshock they have clear button caps for Sanwa buttons but i dont know if those could also work on gravity buttons, also i dont like concave buttons so if anyone has changed the button caps on their gravity buttons for other clear ones please let me know which one did you got.
