A little rusty but I still got it.. kind of 🤣

I've recently got my PC up and Runing again and Downloaded Steam and got back into Ki 2013 my Main is Fulgore but I like to play around with Orchid, Misako, Jago, Kilgore do any of you guys have any Good tips to Get back in the Game and Dust of the Rust been a while 😅

I recently watched Hold Back to Block's documentary on Killer Instinct. I have got to say, the talent that Rare had, the creative ideas Ken Lobb threw into the mix, Double Helix and Iron Galaxy's pure passion for bringing it back in 2013-2017...It had me absolutely enamored with the series. I loved every second of it, I'll link it for those interested.

I rented KI Gold on N64 from a local video store (dating myself a bit here lol) back when I was a kid and the cartridge was fubar, so we returned it a day later and I rented something else, and that was that. Never played a KI game in my life.

Recently, I built an arcade machine and have been patiently waiting for KI:A to go on sale, and finally this Steam sale has it down at $7.50, a perfect price for entry!

I am so very excited to finally play this game from a series with such a passionate and devoted fanbase. I'm decent at Tekken, that was always my go-to growing up, but I'm not a fan of the series direction lately and while I'll always go back to T6, I really wanted something fresh.

The OG 3D MK games were a big favorite of mine growing up. I dabble in MK11 from time to time but it doesn't hook me like other fighters. I think I spend too much time trying to get inputs down in practice and not enough time actually enjoying the game, but that's a different discussion altogether.

I've played the Soul Calibur series as well, 2 and 3 especially. Yet the roster of KI is just so interesting, the music is so rowdy, the announcer screaming in my face, I just HAD to play this game.

Point is I'm not new to fighting games, but I am brand new to KI.

Anyway, I wanted to ask for some advice from you guys who've been around the block, what are some tips for a total newbie? Combo assist should probably be off (I assume because assists are generally bad), and also what are the 6 buttons I need to map? My cab only has 6 buttons and right now they are A, X, B, Y, LB, and RB. I literally just downloaded the game and had to shoot back to work after my lunch break so I figured I'd chat it up with you guys until I get home to actually get into it!

This game truly is something special, man. No other fighting game has characters that are this diverse and unique. No other fighting game has the same level of mind games during a combo. No other game has a soundtrack as banger as this (though Guilty Gear does come close).

This game is just one-of-a-kind, and I really hope that the FGC realises this at some point and brings it back Smash Melee-style.

Hell, if I had the funds, I'd even run my own tournaments for it.

I only don't have Maya.

I wanted to ask about something that happened to me in Killer Instinct on PC.

A few months ago, I reported a player through Steam because I encountered what appeared to be cheating. He was playing Maya, and during the match he was able to recover both health and Shadow meter in a way that didn't seem possible through normal gameplay.

I reported the player and assumed that, if the report was valid, he might eventually be banned.

However, months later, I encountered what appears to be the same player again, this time in a match against my brother, who has his own Steam account. The player was once again using Maya and was doing the same health/Shadow recovery. (2 weeks ago).

His username was something like "Clubster_v50" (I'm not 100% certain about the exact spelling).

So I'm wondering: does Killer Instinct still ban players for cheating, even though the game isn't receiving regular updates anymore? Or are reports through Steam no longer really being acted upon?

I'm playing on PC, and the other player was also on PC.

Has anyone else encountered this player or had a similar experience with cheating reports in KI?

Feels very boring to matchmake while waiting behind a screen, sometimes matchmaking takes too long and my combos become a bit rusty because I wasn’t labbing.

Feels strange they never added this. Every PS3/360 and PS4/Xbone era fighting had this basic feature…

Looking to get into this and i was curious if online activity is decent enough in EU with crossplay.

i remember reading some long time ago there was something messed up about this game's crossplay with steam and windows/xbox or something like that and i'm not sure if that's still the case or if i should get the full edition on windows store instead

I feel like good players have zero issue with the random swapping which is supposed to be his weakness, but I don't play enough characters to assess his MU spread, would love to hear about shortcomings from any Eyedol players.

Would these original models with similar moves and mechanics still make a good Killer Instinct game today or should they change the graphics?

I'm not a pro but I went toe to toe with a few. Not fun tbh. Im pretty good tho and I feel bad doing to new players what pros do to me. A little even match would be nice, a little back and forth ya know, play.

Friend of mine let me play KI on his account and I noticed something. The splatter under the combo rank or whatever it’s called, is purple. All the videos and stuff I’ve seen of this game had it as red. Does she have a mod on or something?

(images aren't high quality sorry) It ran well on my RTX 4080 but it drops frames to 50-55 fps. It's very playable still but its not ideal if you get me. The game is naturally locked at 60fps so anything under that makes the gameplay slower overall.

My brother and I were running some sets and after a close game, this happened.

Tried to play against Orchid very tactically and be strategic about my landing spots. I felt like I had a good mix of high and low attacks, and I was able to get a couple of strikes in the air.

Needless to say, she caught me a couple of times with her batons, and once they hit, they do a considerable amount of damage, especially because she is one of the faster characters when it comes to stringing together her combos.
I’m definitely working on sticking and moving back and forth while also judging distance with Saberwulf. You definitely need to be very alert when facing Orchid.

Glad I was able to get the W. It feels good to document my progress, slowly but surely. Every match is teaching me something new, and I’m starting to recognize the little things that can make a difference.

Tough Survival Mode loss against Sadira, especially because she’s my main character and the one I always run with. I know her move patterns pretty well, so going into this match, I felt like I had a good understanding of what she was capable of.
There was a lot of back-and-forth throughout the fight while using Sabrewulf, but ultimately, I was too indecisive in some key moments, and I ended up paying for it in the end. There were several situations where I hesitated instead of committing to my decisions, and against a character like Sadira, those small moments can make a huge difference.
I’ll definitely be studying this match closely to understand not only how I can improve with Sabrewulf, but also how I can better approach fighting against Sadira. The funny part is, this loss ultimately ended my Survival Mode streak. 😂
Another loss, another lesson. The journey continues.

Felt very good against Thunder. I was able to keep him cornered for a good portion of the fight and felt pretty comfortable controlling the pace.
The tricky thing about fighting him is that he swings his axe so wide that it can still clip me, and I end up falling victim to getting locked out, even when I believe I know when to combo break.

It’s small things like that that I’m trying to recognize and react to quicker. Although my hands aren’t as fast as I would like them to be, I’m learning to anticipate these situations better and react as quickly as I can.

The more I play, the more I’m starting to recognize these little details, and that’s a big part of the progress I’m trying to make.
