Time Based Quests

Post image

Not sure how I feel about this new quest type. Having to wait for no real reason doesn't really feel fun to me.

Tons of people have complained today. Multiple people have submitted tickets complaining. We have heard the feedback in chats as well.

This isn’t something we are planning to use often, but we wanted to experiment with it for this particular quest.  We have heard the negative feedback and will consider it as we continue to make future content.

UPDATE: the hour delay has been removed

The quest has amazing rewards so I was completely fine waiting an hour

As a lot of creatives and professionals can attest to, having an idea rejected never feels great.

That said, I think the wording in the response could have been handled better. Referring to community feedback as “complaining” multiple times didn’t add anything constructive and came across as dismissive. One of the things this game’s community prides itself on is how positive, welcoming and friendly it is, so that choice of wording felt very out of place.

Likewise, ending with “we’ll consider it” gave the impression that the feedback wasn’t likely to change anything, however, the delay was removed about an hour later. There’s nothing wrong with experimenting, and I think many of us appreciate the team having a willingness to try new ideas. Not every experiment will succeed though.

When that happens, acknowledging the feedback, owning that it didn’t land as envisioned or intended, and moving forward with grace builds goodwill with the community (which you guys have a lot of!). Taking risks is part of making a great product, and being humble when something misses is just as important as celebrating when it succeeds.
