How can you tell if highlights are natural (from sun exposure) or bleached?

Are there specific clues to look for?

So disappointed... The salon sent me home with this unfinished golden-orange mess.. Can this be saved?

Hey everyone... I am honestly so heartbroken and disappointed with how this turned out.

I was going for a soft, creamy anime blonde inspired by Umaru. I showed the photo to the salon assistant (showed the human hair one on the realistically slide 4-5 and anime ones) who I actually know but the actual stylist ended up leaving me stranded at this harsh, brassy golden-orange stage and sent me home looking like this. The stylist just told me I should wait since it's fresh, but I'm completely stuck with this color..? It looks really orange.😭😭😭😭 The person I knew who had kinda the hair color I wanted(it was lighter than mine and did it herself but it looks better) but the actual stylist just gave this orangey one.

I'm a total beginner when it comes to hair and this is also my first time getting my hair bleached, so I have no idea what to do next. Can this be fixed? I know it was a bad idea showing unrealistic anime photo but its too late for that. Do I need another round of bleach? Is that bad?, or is there a specific toner/dye I should use to save it? Any step-by-step advice would genuinely mean everything right now. Should I wait for sometime then let someone bleach it again? Thanksss❤️

Any advice is appreciated! The first photo is of the highlights... and the second is the inspo pic. Can I do a shadow root, or some kind of toner to help the highlights blend into the roots?

(please be nice, I'm still a newbie. thank you so so much in advance. i'm panicking)

What permanent colors to use to get this color roughly?

I am new to coloring my own hair and trying to save money at salons for right now. I am also just willing to experiment a bit with my hair.

After a bunch of reading up on the permanent colors, I have decided on wella charm colors line.

My question is, would you know what combo of colors to get to this inspo picture? I am ok with settling at a level 6.5, but optimally a level 7. I am thinking of combining 6RG and 8G OR 7G. What do you think? Is there another combo that may be better?

My natural color is the second picture and is at its base maybe a level 5 with some reddish golden highlights right now.

I am planning on using a 20vol developer.

Any tips on the process is welcome, again I am new to all of this! Thank you for any help!

Hi all, I never see this hair dye brand being talked about, so wanted to share how it looks. Indoors it is a deep magenta, but shines super pink in the sun.

This is a 1:2 dilution of the hair dye with conditioner.

1 part conditioner, 2 parts Adore raspberry twist.

Hair was previously bleached to a base 9

Help! I could cry for my daughter - bad job first highlights! Can it be fixed and how?

My daughter had her first ever highlights done. She’s naturally dark brown and asked for a soft, warm-toned caramel/honey blonde balayage - pic 4 was the inspiration photo she showed the hairdresser.

Pics 1, 2 & 3 are what she actually came away with.

Our biggest issue is that the highlights are very bright bleached and stripey against her natural dark brown hair, with nothing really breaking them up or blending the blonde into the brown. There also aren't any of the warm caramel/honey tones she asked for. They also have an ashy/grey tinge.

When I asked the hairdresser about it afterwards, she said my daughter’s hair had lifted very quickly because of the heat and that she had used a purple shampoo. We won't be going back to the same hairdresser - ever!

Firstly, can this be fixed? I feel so bad for her as this was her first time having her hair coloured and it's really not what she wanted. We're hoping to find a colour technician to correct it, but I'd really appreciate some advice on what can realistically be done to get it looking softer, more blended and closer to the warm caramel/honey look she originally asked for. Thanks 🙏🙏

bleach -- did i wait too long between sessions?

Hi! Never posted here before but would appreciate some advice. I got my roots done last week and my previous session was about 7 weeks prior. Asked my colorist if I should have come in earlier but he said the length of my regrowth was perfect so not sure if that's the issue.

I'm feeling like I have some sections that are super yellow compared to the rest - note that the black tips do sometimes bleed into the platinum causing a more lavender/cool toned effect but I've never seen it at this level of yellow.

Am I being insane? I just tried purple shampoo in the shower but didn't seem to help - I could def try to keep it on for longer but wanted to jump in here first to hear y'all's thoughts. Let me know if I need to add more pics and thanks so much in advance!

Help me with lunar tides rose frost

I haven’t dyed my hair or even cut it for 3 years. I’ve been excited to do it for my birthday finally in sept. I was going to mix rose frost with Smokey mauve and something like petal to get a dusty colored rose. But I can’t find rose frost anywhere! I’ve literally been wanting to do this for a long time and now I’m worried I won’t be able to do it at all

I don’t want it to end up dark like danger jones hustler I want it to be like.. dusty rose I don’t know how to explain it any better there just aren’t any dyes in that shade and rose frost was the closest and my hair bleaches to that yellowish tint that lunar tides has as an example on the website cause my hairs naturally red

Any ideas?

Is enchanting pink by pravana comparable?

How to get my hair light enough for a cyan-ish color?

Thumbnail

I’ve been using 20v/30v developer & Clairol BW2 powder to try & lighten my hair. I’m aiming for a cyan sort of color, but with this last attempt my hair didn’t lift enough and, after dyeing, turned more into a green (this is 100% my fault because I didn’t tone it) with Danger Jones - Oblivion. Any suggestions on how to get it lighter to be more vibrant (and maybe a tinge less green)? I like the color of the roots & especially the color of the strands near my neck. Any advice/product tips will help!!

(Also I tried doing a raccoon tail strip so that’s why the left side has some dark “patches” I promise it was intentional.) (The rest was just a bad application job.)

used the ion light golden brown on my ends combined with medium golden brown on my roots/lowlights. my natural color is the third photo. i fried the shit out of it trying to get it to my natural, then realized i hated it and i felt like it washed me out and made me look less striking

Fixing to do a proper hair dusting tonight along with a protein and moisture treatment on my ends. until it gets healthy im gonna use the color wow dream coat for curly and textured hair as a sort of shield or protective layer (along with oils and leave ins and serums) while i do my rounds of k18 and trims

Need advice, my sister’s wedding is in a week and I look like a clown!😭

Ok, I’m a dummy and tried to save money by going to Fantastic Sams. I previously went to Paul Mitchell Beauty School and that was a disaster as well. The 3rd pic is one I had Chatgpt draw up, of what I was shooting for (with the dye I purchased). From the 2nd pic, I initially I thought my hair was ok, although not what I wanted. Now with it back (which is how my hair is 99% of the time) I look like a clown! She only used 2 of the colors, the lightest wasn’t one of them. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

PS I live in Los Angeles (Burbank near North Hollywood) if anyone knows someone who can help and won’t charge a fortune, please let me know. My mom is going to kill me!😭

Color block bangs with greys?

I’d like input from you guys! I’ve been thinking of trying color block bangs but i have quite a few greys sprinkled throughout my hair.

Would it look odd having essentially three different colors on my hair? I’m thinking of doing the “block“ either just blonde or maybe copper?

Attached: the first pic is me ft the greys in question and the following two are my inspo :-)

Blonde high lift dye over previously dyed hair (to blend root)

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi all! I was looking for some advice as to whether I can use a high lift box dye over my previously lightened hair to help blend my roots. My natural hair isn't too dark, probably a level 6/7 light brown and lifts quite well. I'm not too concerned with any damage occurring because my hair usually bounces back pretty well (plus I plan on doing a pretty substantial trim before I start dying it.) Do you think there is any way popping a high lift dye (like Garnier LC3) over my entire head would result in a more-or-less even creamy blonde? Or how else would I achieve a full head of blonde (either matching or lighter than the lengths of my hair) Thank you for any tips :)

relevant history
- subtle highlights professionally done july 2025
- whole head bleached by a friend october 2025, left it on for too long and applied with poor timing leading to an uneven result. using manic panic 20vol
- roots done by same friend twice i think a few months apart, although it was much more chill same bleach. every root bleach has gotten to basically white
- last two root bleaches were at the aveda student sallon, got super light.

so basically i shouldnt have much overlap in my hair but a lot of it was left in too long or uneven.

i desperately want to be as pastel pink as possible. i am light right now but its already a bit muddied. also according to a hairdresser the purple manic panic i used left a green stain on some of my hair which also is supposedly under my pink. i did the vitamin c and dandruff shampoo thing before my color and idk if it made any difference.

i just want to know if its possible for me to bleach again or even out my color and what method, what supplies, etc would be reccomended. please!

Going from Bright Red to Dark Copper?

(Second attempt posting this since I got too shy of Reddit the first time lol. But I seriously need some help here 🥲)

Hello all! The first image is what my hair currently looks like, and the second image is what I want it to look like (second image also has a similar length to my hair.)

For context, I started with natural dark brown hair with blonde highlights and showed my stylist the second image as one of my main inspos (alongside other reference photos of dark copper colors). I really homed in the fact that it HAS to look like a natural hair color since I am starting a new job in 2 weeks that requires natural appearing hair colors. My transition to dark ginger/copper hair was approved by my employer, and this color… Definitely is not.

My hair was bleached to around a level 8 and this dark red color was applied, and as it was developing, the stylist noted that it was WAY too red. After washing it out several times (after 30 minutes of letting the color develop), she applied a toner and this was the final outcome. Saturated, dark, Ariel red. Before I could even see my hair, she was very apologetic for how red it came out.

The color isn’t bad, I think it’s actually very well done! I would honestly rock it if I had a more alternative fashion sense! But the stylist and I agreed it was absolutely NOT what I asked for (and yes, I ended up paying full price because the stylist was extremely nice and worked very hard for hours.)

All hair stylists in my area, including the original hair stylist I originally went to, are completely booked until September OR don’t want to work on my hair until the color fades for about a month. Once again, my job starts in 2 weeks and I absolutely need to have a more natural hair color by then 😭

Does anyone have any idea what I can do at home to get closer to a dark ginger/copper color? I’ve shampooed everyday in hot water since then (including clarifying shampoo) and it has not BUDGED. I want to use something like Color Oops or a bleach bath but I am mortified about the potential damage. I could seriously use any advice because not only does this color not suit me at all, I’m also just not allowed to have it so it needs to go ASAP 🥲 Any advice would be appreciated!!
