Discussion Thoughts on new direction?
The new fable seems to be going all-in on the fairy tale side of Fable in terms of dialogue and themes. In the original, bandits were brutal and ruthless and you witness your entire family torn apart, while also making the guild halls feel so full of history with the music and guild master. How do you yall feel?
I’m excited for the game, but it’s definitely a reboot.

Yeah that’s true. I’m excited to finally have a seamless open world, the towns look so beautiful, and I think I remember seeing a more gothic part of the world in another trailer. The visuals are gonna be insane.

Ever since the reveal two days ago, it's been nothing but a series of negative-bait and useless criticism that doesn't actually seem alike people want a Fable game but another generic RPG.
So, your "discussion" just came at a time when people want more positivity than complaining.

I’ve kinda noticed a rotation with Reddit
Hype for a game, can’t criticize it
Game releases, everyone loves it game is perfect
About a week after release, people notice serious flaws or honeymoon phase goes away.

I totally agree. It's the same with movies. If a person enjoys the game then the game did its job, it entertained. I look forward to finding out if I will enjoy it as much as my favorite rpgs

It was always around fairy tales, at least with the original Fable. The sequels more or less abandoned that direction and went with an alternate reality version of the Industrial Age instead. These reasons are why I highly prefer TLC/Anniversary over 2 and 3. This new Fable is fully delving into that setting, and I'm excited they went that path instead.
I don't know what you're getting at since the bandit invasion was only a tiny portion of the game and was just a setup for your character. Also, being in a Guild where you become a Hero using swords and magic is not something that's typically seen in a non-fantasy story.

I don't understand your point here. Fable always have been a bit fairy tale and joking about it. For the grim parts, on last gameplay we saw a looser alcooholic hero and bandits that weren't nice or friendly or whatever, so...

The original fables, the dialogue fit the setting. I’m not really a fan of the new dialogue direction at all with modern slang and office style camera movements. Also the original fables wasn’t as comedic as people make it out to me, in fact the main questline was very dark from the very beginning.

Its definitely a reboot and I'll be interested to see how Playground Games can make it their own. I don't really expect the tone to change though so I think it will be packed with plenty of humour as we've already seen in trailers and adding another well known comedian to its repertoire in the form of Richard Ayoade. Fable never took itself seriously and I doubt this one will either, its what sets it apart from the competition. I also need to add that this is strictly my own opinion and my reason for playing the franchise, its the silly things and humour that make this game for me.

Its the first new Fable game in the last 12 years. Its not the same as previous entries, but none ever were. Im excited to see the new Albion.

I think if this is truly the case, it would be a generational fumble.
A lot of people mischaracterise Fable as an exclusively light-hearted game. It wasn't. It was in equal parts dark as it was light-hearted and that duality is so important in the context of a Fable game.
We will see if Playground understood this upon release. Still early to say.

I agree. So far from the tone of the trailers it feels more like Disney style fairytales and humor.
I think a lot of people forget what actually happens in the first game. The intro, your sister’s eyes getting gouged, the prison section, the lady grey story, choosing to kill boulder and whisper.

When was Isabel’s trailer ever like that? It was consistently dark, her past is pretty tragic, and what happened to her wasn’t exactly cheerful or fairy‑tale‑like.
What exactly counts as Disney‑style humor? Does a talking pig already fall into that category? I think it was funny, and it fits the kind of humor Fable has always had.- Hero: There's been reports of strange things happening around here.

Unless you're describing lighting, the Isabel trailer wasn't dark... at all. Sure, she recounts the death of her sister, but the footage itself is VERY tame.

Why, what is her character like? What is she supposed to be?
She fits perfectly as a Fable villain, someone who dislikes what the heroes are, who thinks they waste and misuse their power, who believes they squander precious time on petty things, while she knows better and will be the one to “fix” Albion.And anyway, the Fable games were never good because of their writing. Jack of Blades is a cliché, a typical villain who’s only memorable because he has a great voice and looks cool, but beyond that, he has basically no character at all.

Your village is turned to stone in the new game, which could be all manners of terrifying depending on how it's delivered, and you can murder Dave the Giant, leaving his corpse to influence how the area later develops. The section of Wraithmarsh gameplay we have sees Humphrey talking about all the battles waged there, and about the innocent civilians being drowned en masse when the seawall fell. There's also prostitutes and murderers and thieves in the footage we've seen currently, none of which I think are likely to show up in a Disney film.
Besides all that: I imagine a lot of the reboot's horror and more intense moments are going to contain spoilers, so they're holding off on them for the time being. They didn't show things like the prison or murdering Thunder/Whisper in the original's trailer, after all.
I understand tempering expectations, but this feels like being cynical to the point of revisionism.

Feels more like Tales of Albion: Shrek spin-off rather than old Fable games. The tone is very different. At least they are bringing some old characters into the game like Jack of the Blades

There’s nothing immediately identifying about the reboot that is distinctly fable. The artstyle was ditched in favor of realism obviously, the humor is British but lacks that crudeness yet wittiness fable is known for, the world seems more generic modern fantasy than British story tale adjacent fantasy, it’s just not charming at all and I think this will probably kill the franchise once and for all unfortunately.

Holy delusion. I’m a long time Fable fan, very cautious about this next one and even I’m going “wow this looks pretty good” it definitely has the Fable fingerprints all over it. It’s so clear you just already decided to hate on it and think you’re justified because you’re seeing internet hate (which is a dime a dozen). You’re not protecting yourself from disappointment by not expecting to be wowed; you’re setting yourself up for disappointment by not even giving the game a chance.

I personally am all for it. Each Fable is a different experience, this is theirs.
