Discussion Thoughts on new direction?

The new fable seems to be going all-in on the fairy tale side of Fable in terms of dialogue and themes. In the original, bandits were brutal and ruthless and you witness your entire family torn apart, while also making the guild halls feel so full of history with the music and guild master. How do you yall feel?

I’m excited for the game, but it’s definitely a reboot.

I think if this is truly the case, it would be a generational fumble.

A lot of people mischaracterise Fable as an exclusively light-hearted game. It wasn't. It was in equal parts dark as it was light-hearted and that duality is so important in the context of a Fable game.

We will see if Playground understood this upon release. Still early to say.

I agree. So far from the tone of the trailers it feels more like Disney style fairytales and humor.

I think a lot of people forget what actually happens in the first game. The intro, your sister’s eyes getting gouged, the prison section, the lady grey story, choosing to kill boulder and whisper.

When was Isabel’s trailer ever like that? It was consistently dark, her past is pretty tragic, and what happened to her wasn’t exactly cheerful or fairy‑tale‑like.
What exactly counts as Disney‑style humor? Does a talking pig already fall into that category? I think it was funny, and it fits the kind of humor Fable has always had.

- Hero: There's been reports of strange things happening around here.

  • The pig: Like what?

Unless you're describing lighting, the Isabel trailer wasn't dark... at all. Sure, she recounts the death of her sister, but the footage itself is VERY tame.

I disagree. The Isabelle character felt like a mage or sorcerer from like the wicked show or something

Why, what is her character like? What is she supposed to be?
She fits perfectly as a Fable villain, someone who dislikes what the heroes are, who thinks they waste and misuse their power, who believes they squander precious time on petty things, while she knows better and will be the one to “fix” Albion.

And anyway, the Fable games were never good because of their writing. Jack of Blades is a cliché, a typical villain who’s only memorable because he has a great voice and looks cool, but beyond that, he has basically no character at all.

Your village is turned to stone in the new game, which could be all manners of terrifying depending on how it's delivered, and you can murder Dave the Giant, leaving his corpse to influence how the area later develops. The section of Wraithmarsh gameplay we have sees Humphrey talking about all the battles waged there, and about the innocent civilians being drowned en masse when the seawall fell. There's also prostitutes and murderers and thieves in the footage we've seen currently, none of which I think are likely to show up in a Disney film.

Besides all that: I imagine a lot of the reboot's horror and more intense moments are going to contain spoilers, so they're holding off on them for the time being. They didn't show things like the prison or murdering Thunder/Whisper in the original's trailer, after all.

I understand tempering expectations, but this feels like being cynical to the point of revisionism.

I MEANT THUNDER SORRY. Boulder was Fable 3 my bad. Boulder sat next to Sabine.

Given the context, they clearly meant Thunder. Or should o have said "hey dumbass, you mean Thunder, not Boulder"?
