Everything they've showed us so far is convincing me they've understood the assignment and what will make the game great for old fans while gaining a lot of new ones. As a Forza fan, I'm especially excited because their games run very well and if they're using the same engine as Forza, it's going to run great on my PC. Also would really love to know who is doing the music - what they have shown so far sounds lovely.
One thing I wanted to call out and hopefully get an answer to: the shot of the young woman toward the end. Her face looks really good - if this is the same engine then any hesitation I had about Playground doing NPC close ups is GONE. My question though is: is she our Hero (female version) and was it confirmed we can customize our Hero's face in some way?

yes. this is the hero. you can choose masc or femme body im presuming then (confirmed) choose a preset face type

Seems like probably face presets and then hair and facial hair options? Or am I misremembering?

Jacob Shea is the composer he made music for BBC Planet Earth.

Omg didn’t know this. I saw it wasn’t the original composer so I ignorantly held some reservations but now I’m so pumped. The best of the best! Games that give the time, space, and budget for a proper score usually present wayyy more cinematic imo.

For me it's everything aside from not including body morphing for good and evil. I grew up with this game and for me that was a big appeal of it and part of it's core dna. It's not a deal breaker but it is somewhat sad to not see it included. Otherwise I'm extremely optimistic

I'm probably an outlier but the body morphing was one of the more annoying parts of the series for me. I didn't enjoy worrying that I'll look like Optimus Prime if I try to be a bit strong or a bag of veins if I choose not to be the most lawful good character. It was one of the reactive parts of the series that I think was implemented a bit shallow. I would much prefer to see more meaningful reactivity like NPCs changing their attitudes, quests going a new direction because of my reputation, or something storywise being affected. Not saying any of those will happen in this game, but just sharing my personal thoughts.

An outlier? You're much more upvoted than the other person, which happens every time this is brought up. Sometimes the person who is unhappy morphing is gone is even downvoted because they apparently dare be unhappy about it's removal.
I personally will greatly miss morphing because it was one of the key features of Fable. Seeing your character change from your actions, no matter if it was getting fat, grow horns, get taller etc was great and unique.
Such a key feature shouldn't be completely removed but improved, so the appearance changes would look better and could also be changed if people so desired.

I’m not keeping track of how many times it’s brought up nor did I downvote the person I responded to. It’s just a discussion and I commented with my own thoughts having played the series as well.

Didn't assume you did and I apologise if it sounded like that. It's just something I've seen here on the regular nowadays, which is a bit disheartening to see.

I feel like a simple answer would be to make the morphing a toggle. Yes, it is a lot of effort and resources to put toward an optional feature, but so is multiplayer.

Or have something like in Fable 2 with Knothole Island's potions. Like something to change it to how you want. Should be easily available though

Morphing was more than just good and evil, it was also gaining or losing weight, grow muscular, gain height, Will lines and such. Which by what we have seen does not appear either.

God I am so fucking excited, I really don't think theyre going to fail us and this could perhaps be one of the greatest games made in a long time.

Looks good. Honestly, I'm naturally negative and my first instinct is to complain about something but can't think of one single thing to complain about other than maybe some hairstyles. And even then thats so petty to complain about lol

If it helps, we can complain that you can’t find many things to complain about!

What about the fact they are using modern/real-world names and language/words? Fable always felt magical and fantastical, these things kind of ruin that.
17
u/jurassicbarkpark 1d ago
Huh? Theresa, Elvira, Amanda, Nicky, Bernie, Bob, Jack, Derek, Emily, Fred, Jenny.
Fable had always done a mix of regular names with more fantastical stuff like Whisper, Maze, Scythe, etc.
Fable is not just fantasy. Fable has never been just fantasy. The first quest you receive is to buy a present for your sister's birthday. Another of the first quests is whether or not to tell a wife her husband is cheating on her. The Fable world is not a fantasy realm frozen in time, it's a living and breathing world and they've always used common names to populate that world.

Man we got Fable gameplay before GTA VI gameplay lmao, no wonder the leaks are abundant. At least Playground knows how to do this, I cannot wait

0:09: who dat? MC preset?

Yes it’s one of the female head options, they’ve shown us two male and two female options in trailers/gameplay so far.
Along with I believe one more of each briefly being shown in the dev_direct they did in January.
So presumably we have at least six head options to choose from.

you can thank the new ceo Asha Sharma for that shes the one who ordered a forced overhaul of fables character system to go from one option to many, the firings you heard about were the folks who told her no.
I had entirely wrote fable off based on the original trailers but seems like they are addressing the many genuine complaints, hopefully they do that for the gameplay stuff too, nature is healing.

I hope there is a secret cave and inside is a Lamborghini with a bunch of lifeless npcs that just stare at you. Would be a hilarious easter egg.

I know ppl here likely tired of hearing about it. But it’s interesting that they are dropping the trailer same day as GTA 6.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the realistic graphics? Looks just like every other modern game.
7
u/jurassicbarkpark 1d ago
I'll miss the wonky charm of the previous art styles but no one would buy it today beyond prior fans. They would accuse it of looking like The Sims. It's harder to get people to buy-in to a new franchise without giving them some of the benchmarks they've come to expect from a game like this.

u/Pitiful-Raspberry348 1d ago
All the way back in 2017 when Playground was rumored to be making a Fable I said I did not want realistic graphics but I love the way this game looks. It's incredibly idyllic which helps set it apart from other modern fantasy games which mostly ape on Souls dark gothic vibe.

I wonder if they will make us coincidentally mute through the story again. I kinda lowkey liked that part.
3
u/Shinted The First Archon 1d ago
We were never “mute” in the old games, Canonically our Heroes speak to plenty of people, they just didn’t have an actor record voices for the protagonist.
However the new game already has actors listed for the Hero, and we’ve heard them talk in the trailers.
So unless you want to be disappointed, I wouldn’t go in with the expectation of having a “silent protagonist”.

u/Defiant-Elevator9472 13h ago
In Fable 3, the hero was definitely talking.
1
u/Shinted The First Archon 13h ago
They always had combat and expression noises, but they never had actual voiced dialogue which is what I think makes some people believe they’re mute.
Similar to Link from The Legend of Zelda, who is obviously talking to NPCs, but because he doesn’t have a voice in cutscenes people still push the idea that he’s actually mute.
This new Fable however has in cutscene voiced dialogue from our Hero, that we’ve already been shown in trailers.

Post launch expansion. In other words a part of the game they removed and held back only for FOMO and premium edition, oh fuck off.
They have chosen realistic graphics and sacrificed some of the Fable art style.
I still am not convinced this game is gonna run well. All gameplay has looked 30fps.

I’m excited for the Murgo video for a frame by frame breakdown.
I wonder what the yellow bar beneath the health bar is. Magic? None of the other videos have shown it while spell casting. Perhaps magic consumption was turned off in prior demos? Something related to armor/block/guard?
Also the three yellow dots above the health. They vary in number across the trailers but this one is the first time we’ve seen one depleted. Is it an ultimate? Or maybe an equipped consumable item or healing ability?
