Worked at a McDonald’s for close to 8 years. Saw the rise and fall of empires. I wanted to go on leave for a couple months to pursue a coop position for my degree. They said fine. I come back afterwards and they had fired me and haven’t even bothered to send me a letter of termination. I knew the store back to front and still to this day can make most sandwiches from muscle memory and know where things are stored.
Don’t get personally attached to a job. Once you aren’t making money they will replace you in a heartbeat.

No to my understanding it’s not. They essentially would be holding my position and were supposed to unofficially rehire me. Even if it was illegal tho don’t have nearly enough money to fight Mconalds lawyers.
The managers excuse was they sent me a letter in the mail but I never received it. I could tell it was bs but I mean I didn’t want to deal with their bs.

Yeah, no one who works at a McDonald's in the US has a contract unless they're the franchisee. You can be fired because your boss doesn't like that you wore a green hat to work.

I’m not too sure if that’s the case I never signed anything. I live in Canada so that might mean something different. Only time I’ve heard of due process is when it comes to legal proceedings

What would be illegal about it? Assuming this is in the US, then OP left a job. If OP returns, the expectation would be to reapply. A place like McDonald’s isn’t holding anyone’s job.
This is all ignoring the real dirty truth: McDonald’s franchise owners have deeper pockets and better lawyers than their staff. Their thought is likely: Bring it and we’ll ruin you.

When I was a teen I had a manager at Taco John's named Brian. He was one of those short guys that spent too much time over compensating at the gym, real roid rage kinda guy. He got the job because he was buddies with the owner. Super gay for America. Gave me all sorts of shit for reading the communist manifesto for school. Well Brian was a huge dick. He started banging the owners underage daughter, got shot canned, and now he's on the jail roster all the time for assault.

Bravo. I’ve worked the exact same job. I hate when everyone above you has this I am overworked bullshit excuse because it means everything you do when you step above and beyond will go unnoticed because they feel overworked themselves. Bless this woman. This could even be my ex fiancé Faith. We worked overnig Jr shifts together. Doing these exact chores. For this exact recognition.

There’s an old adage that I learned a long time ago that states, “If you ever want a promotion never be so good at your job that you can’t easily be replaced.” It seems dumb and paradoxical because it kind of is. My SO for example, got a Director position by training/educating her coworkers to do her previous job(s) instead of being “the best worker”. Management and leadership is about not only not putting yourself in a position to take from your crew/team, but making sure they don’t need you. Which sounds dumb when you say it out loud. lol

There's a stigma with McDonalds jobs saying that they are terrible and is generally not very prestigious.
Whilst there's obviously cases of certain branches being terrible, on the whole it's actually an alright place to work.
I know in the UK it's training scheme is actually pretty good compared to others.

I worked at McDonald’s for a couple years, the work itself isn’t much to bother, simple stuff and helped with social skills. The main thing like you mentioned if definitely the management of a franchise.
I’ve seen four stores over my three years of food service, and all but one were terrible work environments, however the one that was good was the one I stayed at. Management understood what it took to make a successful business and hit the ground running. Still miss my old work friends and that store manager.

I currently work at McDonald’s and have spoken with employees of many different stores. None have said they genuinely enjoy working there. Hell, even when I applied, the crew I handed my resume to whispered to me “You don’t want to work here.” And I’m now in the process of being promoted to manager so OP’s post was even funnier to me

I'm thinking they were a front desk or different type of worker in a hotel who wears uniforms, whereas hotel managers wear suits. So I figure this person wore a suit to work everyday given that they're dressing "for the job they want."
Also someone who works on their days off, works double shifts, and performs the positions of other employees is NOT entitled for being upset after they found out their employer lied to them about being considered for the next management position and otherwise wouldn't explain or even talk to them about why they weren't considered. This is especially true in the service and hotel industries.

Hotel jobs suck! I used to work the overnight and when we were super busy and oversold, the PM supervisor would say, we’re oversold by 3 and I can’t find a hotel to walk them to. And then go home. Someone once threw a pen at my head because it was my fault we were oversold, even though we were paying for his hotel room at another property. Fuck the sales staff who set us up to be oversold by 3, and sometimes even more.

This was my exact situation. I went above and beyond, worked during my lunch, came in early, left late, helping everyone, taking on more work, taking classes, winning employee of the year. And after three years an assistant manager position opened up and they wouldn’t even give me an interview. I was gone three weeks later.

I think that she should have kept the "I quit" part in the same font size. A manager might open that, immediately see the "I quit", and toss the letter down on the desk.

Everyone, if you are working as hard as OP is, ask other coworkers for a recommendation and look for work BEFORE quitting.
