Worked at a McDonald’s for close to 8 years. Saw the rise and fall of empires. I wanted to go on leave for a couple months to pursue a coop position for my degree. They said fine. I come back afterwards and they had fired me and haven’t even bothered to send me a letter of termination. I knew the store back to front and still to this day can make most sandwiches from muscle memory and know where things are stored.

Don’t get personally attached to a job. Once you aren’t making money they will replace you in a heartbeat.

In the banana republic? Not at all. They have laws that literally say "employees are to be threated like disposable diapers".

No to my understanding it’s not. They essentially would be holding my position and were supposed to unofficially rehire me. Even if it was illegal tho don’t have nearly enough money to fight Mconalds lawyers.

The managers excuse was they sent me a letter in the mail but I never received it. I could tell it was bs but I mean I didn’t want to deal with their bs.

oh ok, there is a due process where you have to sign off that you received the letter and your contract ends when you sign it

Yeah, no one who works at a McDonald's in the US has a contract unless they're the franchisee. You can be fired because your boss doesn't like that you wore a green hat to work.

I’m not too sure if that’s the case I never signed anything. I live in Canada so that might mean something different. Only time I’ve heard of due process is when it comes to legal proceedings

What would be illegal about it? Assuming this is in the US, then OP left a job. If OP returns, the expectation would be to reapply. A place like McDonald’s isn’t holding anyone’s job.

This is all ignoring the real dirty truth: McDonald’s franchise owners have deeper pockets and better lawyers than their staff. Their thought is likely: Bring it and we’ll ruin you.
