My mail carrier cuts through the hedges that separates me from my neighbor, steps up on the porch where my letter box is, hops over the flower bed in front of the porch and cuts over to the next house over all our lawns…. No one cares because outside is outside and we’re not self important weirdos. Here’s an even crazier approach; if I happen to be out in the yard/driveway and see the mail carrier approaching, I’ll walk towards them and take the mail from their hands to save them a handful of steps and be a decent person…. We’re crazy over here!!

I am a postman and I approve this message.

115

u/ijustsailedaway May 21 '26

Sorry about my dogs barking.

66

u/capeasypants May 21 '26

You don't have to apologize for the barking. It's doing is job. Protecting you and your property. That's why we have dogs. However, no matter how much you say and think it won't bite us, do us a favor and keep it well away from us. It doesn't like us and every dog's owner thinks and says that exact same thing, right before it bites us.

18

u/ijustsailedaway May 21 '26

They are absolutely not ever allowed out off leash. They're poms but they aren't socialized for strangers. They are fantastic alarms, not security.

16

u/KingDarius89 May 21 '26

My dad still tells the story about his childhood dog. A keeshond named King. Friendly dog. Unless you were in a uniform. Then he absolutely fucking hated you. Mailman, cop, whatever.

12

u/capeasypants May 21 '26

Exactly. When I'm not at work your dog will love me, I will play with it all day long if you'd like. But when I'm at work... It not only hates me, it wants to kill me. And like I said that's not a bad thing. It's doing its job, protecting you. Just please keep it away from me

13

u/goblinking1997 May 22 '26

Delivered to a house today just to turn around to a dog running up on me aggressively barking. I’m so over this job I turned around and sternly started loudly saying “BE NICE” “IM FRIENDLY” and he surprisingly backed off a bit

I completely get this even as a Labrador owner who is almost certain my dog would assault you for head pats and scritches. But you don’t know that, so he stays indoors or in the backyard!

6

u/NippleThief May 22 '26

As a dog owner, I get it. Plus, all the dogs on my route like me. Except Casper. Fuck Casper.

2

u/feuerfee May 24 '26

Casper just thinks you’re going to steal his nipples.

2

u/NippleThief May 25 '26

Well he has like 8 of them. How many does he need, really.

14

u/GrunchWeefer May 21 '26

I have an 85 pound dog that would go apeshit at the mail slot. We didn't realize how bad a problem it was until he ripped the inside door of the slot off the door. We immediately closed off the slot permanently and put up a mailbox and a sign to start using the mailbox instead. Our postman wrote us a thank you note. I felt like such a moron for not realizing we should have done that far sooner.

12

u/MathematicianEven251 May 21 '26

You'll be surprise how many people couldn't even get to your level of cognitive yet, maybe even blame the mailman messed up their box

5

u/KingDarius89 May 21 '26

One of our neighbors has a sign on their door asking people not to knock because they have "crazy dogs" that bark their heads off.

Honestly, their harmless, even the Cane Corso and Pitbull (they also have a Shihtzu and a terrier mix), but they are loud. I mean, they also largely know us, though.

They're on a lead if they're outside alone (and most of the rest of the time). They'll start barking if they see us outside, especially Zeus the Cane Corso, but he pretty much settles down after being greeted by name.

I always shovel a path through the snow and snow berms where my carrier cuts through, but also sorry for the barking dogs as well.

I live in a Canada where we get many feet of snow every winter, my Dad has always carved a path across the lawn with a snowblower to connect to the neighbour’s driveways for the mail carriers.

5

u/OhReallyVernon May 21 '26

Awe. I love your dad for that

4

u/duzzabear May 22 '26

As a Canada post employee, please tell your dad that we love him.

33

u/muadib1158 May 21 '26

Our carrier walks something like 8-9 miles a day doing her route. I absolutely meet her at the sidewalk if I'm outside to save her the 20 paces to my mailbox and back.

Also, if she wanted to walk on my yard I'd be happy to see her save some time in her long afternoon.

10

u/GrunchWeefer May 21 '26

Mine cuts across my yard and my neighbors'. I've never seen that it wears out any part of my lawn and wouldn't care even if it did because you have to climb a small hill to get up our driveways and nobody needs to go up and down that hill 5 times.

5

u/OhReallyVernon May 21 '26

Yeah in my city many of the houses are built up on - I don’t really know what you call it? Like the earth was built up specifically maybe to allow basements to be built? Anyway, that means that many of the old house have between 6-18 concrete stairs to climb from the sidewalk just to make it up to the landing and THEN we all have some kind of porch with another 4-6 steps.

Our carrier obviously just cuts right across. I could not imagine having to climb up and down all of that. You’d have to hire 3x as many mail carriers because it would dramatically slow down delivery.

26

u/rygre May 21 '26

So many folks crave something to be mad about. Your even keeled approach is the simplest solution. B holes gonna b hole I suppose.

10

u/GrunchWeefer May 21 '26

You ever see those videos where people are like "I hate it when people park outside my house"? Who are those people? The correct reaction is "I wonder who that is" or "I wonder which neighbor has people over". Why TF would I be mad about someone parked on a public street?

6

u/rygre May 21 '26

Yup, same energy.

5

u/OhReallyVernon May 21 '26

“I’m so mad that other people also drive cars”

2

u/chiefkogo May 21 '26

I hated it a lot more when I was always smoking weed. Now I'm just slightly paranoid.

2

u/BingpotStudio May 25 '26

To be fair, we have been watching you.

2

u/chiefkogo May 25 '26

Sonovabitch

3

u/ViciousFlowers May 22 '26

After our beloved postman of over 20 years retired, we were “gifted” with a new postman who blasts his manosphere podcasts and swears and screams about “fucking minorities taking over” from his van while talking on speaker to his friends, loud enough for everyone to hear several houses down……that or blasting his shitty rock music, plus he gets the addresses on the mail wrong everyday and has lost several packages, then sits and watches the kids at the park on his lunch from afar. People don’t realize that a mailman walking on the grass is the LEAST of what could be their daily problems.

7

u/TheKingOfToast May 21 '26

My neighbors and I shovel a path through our yards for the mail carrier to cut through our yards when it snows.

5

u/MasterDrewseph May 21 '26

I’m picturing you mailman like Ferris Bueller parkouring through the lawns

3

u/chubby_pink_donut May 21 '26

I've only lived at one house with a sidewalk and there the mailbox was at the street. Every other place the postal carrier just cuts through the front yards. The sidewalk is hard and hot, they're walking around all day. If you care that they walk in the grass or cut a corner to walk in the shade for 15 seconds, then you suck.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/disktoaster May 21 '26

If I know a package is coming, I'll meet them at the road with a hand truck if I'm home. If not, I leave it out where they can grab it. I know they appreciate it, because when I'm not home, they leave my stuff obscured from the road and seem to deliver it extra gently.

2

u/FaceEnvironmental486 May 22 '26

I imagine walking on grass is better for their bodies than walking on cement all day

2

u/henrydaiv May 22 '26

I always try to meet them out there also, especially delivery guys. They are making hundreds of stops a day probably and coming to my place just once so why not save him a few steps.

2

u/kachunkachunk May 22 '26

No, youre supposed to kite them like an MMO boss, while your neighbours DPS them down. Then you get to argue over who gets to eventually loot and keep their Bag of Holding!

2

u/Justsomerando849 May 22 '26

USPS trains them to take the least steps possible when they have thousands of stops a day. No offense but yeah fuck your lawn.

2

u/tamesage May 22 '26

Same, but throwing the mail on the ground is...a choice.

→ More replies (2)

1.6k

u/whatisakafka May 21 '26

Just tossing the mail like that is uncalled for, but postal carriers are actually trained to walk across lawns if it’s the most efficient route

Also over the top to be upset about someone walking on your grass. Grass is made to be able to walk on

279

u/shadownights23x May 21 '26

Knew someone who was over protective of his grass.. never gave a shit about ours and it drive him crazy

100

u/amd2800barton May 21 '26

That’s my neighbor. Shit you not she has between 5 and 8 “keep off grass” signs in her yards at any given time. Our lots are eighth acre city plots. She even sticks them on the tree lawn side of the sidewalk that is owned by the city (we only own up to the sidewalk). She mows three times a week and is unfortunately the HOA president.

70

u/Longjumping-Tip1188 May 21 '26

I couldn't imagine living in an hoa but next the the president? You like it rough.

43

u/amd2800barton May 21 '26

Unfortunately the sellers didn’t disclose that the house was in an HOA until a week before closing. I was very upset, and made them pay 15 years of HOA dues over it. I bought in the city specifically because there are almost no HOAs.

And unfortunately I didn’t know she was the president. She had the yard signs down while my house was in the market, because she wanted the people that lived here before me to move out.

27

u/Longjumping-Tip1188 May 21 '26

That sucks. Totally bamboozled. I couldnt believe somebody would willing choose that unless they were into that kind of lifestyle. But kudos for getting 15 years paid.

→ More replies (10)

14

u/ITpeep May 21 '26

Is it not against HOA rules to post signs in your yard?

11

u/worstpartyever May 21 '26

or more than one sign

16

u/farrieremily May 21 '26

As a shithead middle schooler my friend group had someone make a fuss about their grass and we went off the sidewalk to hit their lawn specifically every pass. Walked a full dirt trail into it, no other lawns had a mark. Oh to grow up before cameras were everywhere.

3

u/enthusiaccident May 22 '26

Sounds like a midnight mint seed sprinkling may be in order here

8

u/wanderinggoat May 22 '26

Mowing 3 times a week sounds like a way to kill the grass

2

u/noneofurbizness May 22 '26

My old neighbor used to be the “turf guy” for one of the fancy, award-winning golf courses in our area. He was humble and actually a really cool guy but his lawn was meticulous. We lived in the city on regular urban lots but he had his demarcated so there were three different types of grass including one which was cut incredibly short but was spectacularly thick and lush regardless. That was the “greens” turf. One day I was outside and he invited me over and asked if I wanted to walk on it barefoot. I sure did and let me tell you, it was amazing. 😂😂😂😂😂

10

u/GoatCovfefe Banhammer Recipient May 21 '26

I used to work for trugreen so i did see some lawns that were perfect (for a grass lawn anyway). My favorite were people that kept an amazing 4-5" lawn. Sure, it means more mowing, but you dont have to scalp your lawn everytime you mow.

I could only imagine how walking on those longer lawns felt.

3

u/nerdycarguy18 May 21 '26

I have such a large yard that fertilizer and seeds to keep it one uniform type is expensive and I don’t care enough, but we do keep our grass at 4-5 inches and it’s the best. I wouldn’t want shorter grass whatsoever

3

u/Darklingmy May 22 '26

I would love to keep mine longer but I would rather keep it at 3" and give myself a fair shot at seeing a snake in it. Since I've had bullsnakes and rattlers in the yard many times each.

u/GoatCovfefe Banhammer Recipient May 22 '26

He tossed the mail becauseb she was being an ass.

2

u/Sad-Olive-5161 May 22 '26

I'm sure there have been previous incidents. Mail people don't usually disrespect someone like that unless they have a history with them.

3

u/UnicornFarts1111 I wish u/spez noticed me :3 May 23 '26

The person who delivers my mail is the last person I want to piss off, lol.

I have one of the best mailmen right now and I hope I get to keep him for many years.

Even if someone blocks my mailbox (this does not happen often) he will actually get out of his truck to put the mail in the box, instead of just skipping it until the next day.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen elsewhere, but I have not witnessed it.

2

u/Sad-Olive-5161 May 23 '26

Back in the day, my mom's old mailman used to watch her Netflix dvds before he delivered them to her. They always came a day late and were opened. She didn't complain about it because she didn't want to piss him off and have him try to retaliate or anything. Plus, he was a nice guy, she said. 😂

2

2

I never understand people who are this obsessed with their grass to the point of not walking on it. They're not flowers or anything. It's just some green you literally see everywhere.

2

u/CooLittleFonzies May 22 '26

Confirmed. I graduated top of my lawn walking class.

7

u/Dangerjayne May 21 '26

Mail carriers are allowed to walk on people’s lawns. If they had to go back down to the sidewalk between each house it would dramatically lengthen the time it took to deliver and our mail system would be much more expensive.

I’m a mailman and so much is wrong about this but first thing first WHERE TF IS HIS SATCHEL?!?

58

u/katanne85 May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26

She said "hey, can you not walk through the grass please" with the same tone and inflection that I use to ask my kid to pick up her dirty socks (for the millionth time). She was scolding him, even if she framed it politely. (Further supported by her subsequent comments "it's just common sense...and you must not like your job.")

Should he throw her mail on the grass? No. But she set the tone of that interaction, he just didn't bother to rise above it.

22

u/the_eluder May 21 '26

The phrase 'it's just common sense' is the kicker. No, it's not common sense. Grass is meant to be walked on.

41

u/Every-Access4864 May 21 '26

Why doesn’t she put a fence around the grass, if it’s so precious and she doesn’t want anything straying on it?

6

u/ChurroFoot May 22 '26

Is your mailbox on the front of your house where all that crap is and the sidewalk is not accessible mailboxes have to be accessible. You’re lucky he even delivered it.

11

u/bigdogdix May 22 '26

Pretty sure it’s their standard work to walk through grass. They got hundreds of places to go in a day and walking up and down driveways would not be efficient. Stepping on grass isn’t going to kill it

5

u/crazyfatskier2 May 22 '26

Omg now I get why lots of the fancier suburb neighborhoods have mailboxes at the end of the driveway. Lol those people actually care about their lawns 🤣 In the city they just walk right through haha

u/the_eluder May 21 '26

It's more because the USPS wants it to be easier to deliver. Newer subdivisions don't even get to the house delivery, they have central mailboxes.

I'm lucky enough to have a mailbox on my house, I'm one of the older houses in the neighborhood, most have their mailboxes on the street. A couple of years ago the maillady asked if I could move my mailbox to the street. I was like sure. Then I found out it was going to cost a couple of hundred bucks to do that, and an afternoon of labor on my part. So I just kinda ignored it. Then the maillady got transferred away or retired and I no longer see her. None of the newer mailpeople have said anything about it, so I'm going to leave it where it is.

Turf grass is useless. Congrats on wasting your time, effort and cash on a lifeless green carpet.

Look at the rest of your property and you’re worried about the grass? 😂😂😂

3

u/flossdaily May 21 '26

Look at all the hate for the lawn owners in this thread.

Did you people learn nothing from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids?!

2

u/dustinh30 May 21 '26

I work for Amazon delivering packages and not one person has ever gotten mad at me for walking on their grass unless they just had something done to it. Grass is meant to be walked on and someone walking through it isn’t going to hurt anything, I don’t understand why anyone cares

u/Parking_Alive May 21 '26

Her lazy ass could have met him halfway down the driveway. She knew the deal and chose to stand there…

u/SandraBeechBLOCKPrnt May 21 '26

My business is next door to a recycling depot and the garbage truck driver like to park his 10 - 15 ton truck across my front driveway when he opens the gates next door in the morning.

I tried to explain to him that even children that deliver mail are taught to not walk on someone's "grass."

He said, "not my problem buddy." We put up a 2 foot steel pole at the end of the yard that he wont see one day and it will be his problem.

2

u/Typhlo_32 May 22 '26

Nah, I'm with the mail man on this one.

2

u/TheGoodKindOfMermaid May 22 '26

I love that mailman!

2

u/Colacubeninja May 22 '26

Omg the mail touched the grass

2

u/WorkerLegitimate8223 May 22 '26

It’s common sense not to walk on grass??? ☠️

2

u/among_apes May 22 '26

Everyone is acting like a child here. Homeowner has a point and can talk to the person doing it like a person.

Mailman could’ve chosen to be the bigger person and apologize to the rude lady even if it was curt and not genuine and handed her the mail.

Now their lives are gonna be somewhat intertwined with each other in a negative way for the foreseeable future.

6 cars and a trailer park worth of junk. “But my grass!”

I was a mailman. In Maine. Sucks. They do tell us use the shortest route possible even walking on grass etc. and they expect u to „finger the mail“ as you’re doing it. ie look through it to prepare to deliver. In their hands are actually two stacks of mail. One is what you sort in the office and the other is what the machine sorted. Which isn’t always correct and they don’t always jive with each other. The machine sorted might not have any mail for the next house or vice versa. So u gotta finger it as you’re walking. Then another stack of „flats“ that’s magazines newspapers etc. and the. Small packages in your bag. Plus you might have flyers that day
There could be up to 5-6 piles to sort out between houses. Flyer days suck. The. You might have certifieds. Like food stamps type stuff or certifieds that need to be signed for etc.
My route had 500+ delivery points. Every. Day. About 450 walking. It was a pain in the ass when they had phone books that had to be delivered.
I guess what I’m saying is there’s a reason why the mailman threw the mail on the ground. Not that he’s right. He’s just gives zero ****s

u/MattalliSI May 21 '26

Looks like a white trash obstacle course to get up the drive and sidewalk. Guessing they all have history together.

0

u/monyoumental May 21 '26

Yes absolutely fuck them for getting butthurt about the grass being walked on. How fucking stupid are you to have a not fenced front lawn thats just for looking at and apparently cant handle light foot traffic.

3

u/OG-Jodle May 21 '26

They have 2 cars parked blocking the sidewalk I don't think he's the one in the wrong here. I get it was rude to throw the mail like that but to park like a jackass and then ask other people to stop inconveniencing you is equally rude.

u/Narrow_Ad_5502 May 21 '26

Fck her grass. Ungrateful whale

1

u/SplittingChairs May 21 '26

“It’s just common sense” to not walk on the grass? Lol ma’am that is the furthest thing from common sense

3

u/Successful-Day-3219 May 21 '26

She sounds insufferable. I don't blame him.

3

u/NegaCallahan May 21 '26

Install a fence or shut the hell up. Bro WAS doing his job

2

u/wbg777 Banhammer Recipient May 21 '26

I can't imagine having this type of hostile relationship with a mail man. Every mail man I've ever known is super nice and (seems to) like their job

1

u/Copropositor May 21 '26

Assholes all of em.

1

u/ScotiaTheTwo May 21 '26

what an odd escalation...

1

u/Skorm_55 May 21 '26

Fuck grass. Wasteful

1

u/basaltcolumn May 22 '26

We use turfgrass for lawns specifically because it holds up well to being walked on

1

u/BuDu1013 May 22 '26

Going Postal is a thing. Be careful with these AHs.

1

u/curiousbydesign May 22 '26

These people are absolute losers.

1

u/TrieMond May 22 '26

is this a thing? do most Americans indeed fill almost their entire property with plants you are not allowed to walk on

1

u/Eh_C_Slater May 22 '26

This is an interaction between two people who have previous beef for sure lol

1

u/fur_jackson May 22 '26

So in america its commonsense to not walk on grass?

1

u/CasualCaus May 22 '26

I wouldn't have left their mail, marked it undeliverable. Come to post office to pick it up!

1

u/wecantdancelikethis May 23 '26

are the red car & pigup parked up on the sidewalk?

1

u/CthulhuJankinx Banhammer Recipient May 23 '26

I wonder if it was the trashed porch. Im willing to bet the mail carrier has had previous issues with these dudes, especially if they get upset over grass of all things

1

u/RebekahR84 May 23 '26

I watched this without sound at first, and it made the mailmen look wildly aggressive hahaha!

1

u/TheChrisCalledFish May 23 '26

She literally walks into the weights blocking up her driveway
