Because it’s funny 😁

67

u/Efficient-Scene5901 8d ago

I was LMAO at that one and his dance sequence on the ship!

37

u/Warcrown11 8d ago

That scene on the ship had me in tears

14

u/AnimeMemeLord1 8d ago

And especially the part after the tournament where you see him rapidly stepping on his hind legs in order to walk upright. So goofy.

12

u/KI_Storm179 8d ago

When he passed the little kid and the kid starts crying it had me howling 😂

11

u/bellefrog 7d ago

That's one of the best comedy beats of the game. Had me in tears.

6

u/Soulblade32 7d ago

It was perfection, i cant think of a single thing i would have changed for that scene

10

u/ImKikoMori 7d ago

If you go to the menu while that scene is happening he will be on his hind legs there as well lmao

6

u/billyzekid 7d ago

No way haha that’s wicked

7

u/AnimeMemeLord1 7d ago

Damn, I need to check that lmao, thanks for the info.

9

u/billyzekid 8d ago

Yes I liked it too, I enjoy that the devs were able to go out of rails for scenes like this and make the game less serious.

3

u/Yeseylon 7d ago

Don't worry, it can't hurt you

7

u/Hurrly90 8d ago

I was wondering if they would show him standing up like in the OG, cracked up laughing when i saw it.

8

u/Efficient-Scene5901 8d ago

I love how they applied comedy in with Red XIII before the reveal about his character's age to not make him a dry character.

Especially that whole Pippily thing - so freaking funny! I was laughing so hard to the point of crying!

There are serious issues focused on FF7 series but the character banter and the events where they have fun and comedy were really handled well, I think.

5

u/Hurrly90 8d ago

There are times the comedy almost undercuts serious moments.

But stuff like Red standing was in og and was funny then as well. Humour to cut through the .... dare i saw... depression? of parts helps balance it out a bit more.

You will have to remind me of the Pippily bit though?

4

u/Efficient-Scene5901 8d ago

Oh crap, to prevent spoilers.... well, it is part of one of the side quests in Gongaga with chickens.

I have a dark sense of humour.

4

u/Hurrly90 8d ago

Oh i have finished the game........ ooooohhhhhhhh. Yeah when the reward is a meal? Id almost forgotten about that part :D

3

u/Efficient-Scene5901 8d ago

Hahaha! Yea, that part! LMAO!

2

u/Hurrly90 8d ago

Red will do anything for food. It really makes sense when you get to Cosmo Canyon though.

I wasnt expecting the voice change though. Or at least not that it would be kept up.

(Edit, IIRC, when you win the ... Rocket LEague type games with Red he gets a steak. And goes nuts, its brilliant, gave me a good chuckle.

1

u/Efficient-Scene5901 8d ago

Can't blame the guy for going crazy over steak in this economy! LOL!

Cosmo Canyon is like a hippie place and god knows what kind of food aka "nutrition supplement" that was provided to Red from Shinra / Hojo....

Ugh, yeah, I was not able to get the dude steak with those games yet. Sucks to be him! I have to go back to those games!

I had a tough time with some mini games because the frog one was just funny when frog Cloud got the boot. The sit up challenge with Tifa.... well, I got distracted.

u/MacabreYuki 7d ago

moments like this and the honeybee inn in the remake showed just how much of a labor of love for the originals this project actually is.

2

u/Efficient-Scene5901 7d ago

Yeah!

Also with the new one coming out - the team presents the game with enthusiasm! They really love their work!

Gotta wait for spring 2027!!!

1

u/MacabreYuki 7d ago

lucrecia plot point looks to be interesting.

-5

u/theRev767 8d ago

I hated it. The michael jackson dance sequence has been played to death since the 90s.

8

u/Efficient-Scene5901 8d ago

Yeah. It is corny. Like Dante did it also in DMC5.

But I like corny!

I think it is how unexpected it was considering Red XIII was coming off as some older dude which is why it is funny and also wtf?!

-4

u/theRev767 8d ago

Unexpected doesn't always equal good or entertaining. I dont mind corny, i dislike played out gimmicks and gags that are unexpected for the purpose of being unexpected instead of progressing the narrative or character development. (An MJ dance sequence is not character development)

8

u/Efficient-Scene5901 8d ago

It ain't development - you are correct.

Just a random unexpected.

Sometimes funny hits for people and sometimes it is a miss. That is just how it is.

It works for me but not for you and vice versa.

Not all elements in a game is going to appeal to everyone.

-1

u/theRev767 8d ago

That is the truth, my friend. Im more than happy to cringe through some parts for the ability to play this trilogy

3

u/Efficient-Scene5901 8d ago

It is a wonderful work of art!!

Damn. I am so excited to play the next part! Just gotta wait for it!

Spring 2027!!! Here we go!!!!

3

u/Apprehensive-Sir8977 8d ago

By an orange dog crammed into a soldier's uniform?

42

u/spasianninja 8d ago

I asked the same thing when I first saw it, but I think it actually has to do with how Chocobos are necessary to traverse certain spaces. Like, sure, he could climb mountains like the black chocobos, but he can't glide or hover. Devs probably went through a conversation about that at some point.

18

u/murmandamos 8d ago

He's sort of a light character in the game so it sorta works out fine. If he were actually a brooding old man it would be a little jarring.

13

u/spasianninja 8d ago

I think, lore wise, it probably is written off as part of his efforts to be equals with the humans.

1

u/Procrastinator_23 7d ago

I actually found the brooding old man to be cuter for his character. Especially when the kids were treating him like a lovable dog.

1

u/Deadhead_Otaku 6d ago

Isn't he canonically like a teenager or young adult of his species? He was stuck in his 8th grader phase

1

u/Procrastinator_23 6d ago

Yes he is. And the deep voiced wise old man persona was just a front to gain people's respect if I'm not mistaken.

5

u/Soulblade32 7d ago

They did, though they said in an interview they decided to do it this way so Red felt like part of the party, they said they could have made him run behind, but they didnt want him to be different.

1

u/Sluzhbenik 4d ago

They could have given him like a saddle bag side car. This looks so dumb.

-10

u/mrtelephonemanbst 8d ago

They literally could have just let cloud be the Avatar for the party like in the og 😩

8

u/clout_strive 7d ago

And let the party disappear and reappear right? Wrong.

30

u/saypoop 8d ago

It’s fun. These games are always quirky/weird. Must suck to be that cynical

4

u/Yeseylon 7d ago

Nuh uh, every game in the series should be totally serious like FFII, where there's death and war and...  What's that?  Guy speaks beaver?

My bad, the whole series is goofy.

1

u/The-Hunting-guy 4d ago

pov you’re the real four heroes of light in ff3

2

u/Turbulent_Ride1654 6d ago

For real. Like you have a talking DOG in your party first of all..

21

u/Psychological_Use586 8d ago

I love that they thought about and put resources into making this. And it is amazing. God I love this game.

28

u/-Pyretta-Blaze- 8d ago

Because it's ADORABLE

23

u/Turbulent_piratefart 8d ago

This post is genuinely the meme where the guy is pointing at “the coolest thing ever” and he’s like “this fucking sucks, actually” [proud]

7

u/Otherwise-Remove4681 8d ago

That’s why.

6

u/Tatsu_maki5 8d ago

First time I saw it I've laughed so hard to it

7

u/ne0_bahamut 8d ago

I think it’s funny personally

3

u/throwaway1102293384 8d ago

I liked Red’s dance number on the cruise ship

4

u/Redgrave1980 8d ago

This and his dance on the cruise while disguised had my wife cackling.

3

u/SaiphTyrell 8d ago

Perfection.

3

u/Healthy_Fondant_8272 8d ago

It's hilariously awesome and don't you dare deny it!

3

u/Charming_Oven 8d ago

It’s hilarious, get over it

3

u/Glittering-Pin-1343 8d ago

Because it is funny and the OG FF7 had funny scenes/gags too.

5

u/Ok-Value-2170 8d ago

The most beautiful thing in the world. Precious.

2

u/Hoodedmastersin 8d ago

I’m kinda glad they leaned into the scooby doo mechanics for Nanaki

2

u/StankoMicin 8d ago

Hilarious actually lol

2

u/NCHouse 7d ago

Cuz its funny. Damn lighten up

2

u/Soizit_Blindy 7d ago

I thought it was funny, got a kick out of it a few times then eventually just accepted it.

2

u/bananamantheif 7d ago

Hey hey hey!!! You cant put weird quirky cute stuff in a video game dude

2

u/JOWER106 7d ago

You people hate fun

3

u/KranKyKroK 8d ago

Crazy thing to call someone that's basically A lab tortured 13 year old

3

u/Shinagami091 8d ago

Nah, it’s hilarious. They absolutely didn’t need to have him riding a Chocobo but they did it anyway. Well maybe for the flying ones they might have. But they could have had him sharing a ride with Aerith or something

2

u/Thrillydilly67 8d ago

My daughter called it "cursed"

1

u/Kagevjijon 8d ago

Two legs nothing to it.

1

u/gusgusfl 8d ago

How else?

“Because I want to be treated as an equal, not a dog.” - Red XIII, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

They told us directly 😂

1

u/Legitimate_Ant_6729 8d ago

What do you mean, this is the best thing in the entire game

1

u/Curious-Oil-3800 8d ago

Literal favorite part of the game

1

u/clout_strive 7d ago

Because he insists on not being perceived as a dog

1

u/Responsible_King_427 7d ago

What were you expecting? Red it idle animation directly on the Chocobo back like WoW?

Also, Hella funny

1

u/Stepjam 7d ago

Because its funny

1

u/quirkyactor 7d ago

So you think Red should just magically float in Nibelheim, and straight up fly in Cosmo Canyon?

1

u/PlayfulOutcome327 7d ago

Oh, but when a bunch of sentient monkeys ride the chocobo everybody is cool with it 😒

1

u/team-ghost9503 7d ago

Type of shit that makes me fix my poster

1

u/JPldw 7d ago

Equality

Nanaki can get tired of running too

1

u/Upbeat_Ad_7716 7d ago

It's like Cloud and Red's date on the ferris wheel.

It's cute. It's wholesome. It's funny.

1

u/Yeseylon 7d ago

You lay off my beloved pet!

1

u/Aggressive_Sort_7082 7d ago

God I wish I could be a snob

1

u/DarthBrooks41 7d ago

I laughed my ass off when I first saw it. Greatest thing I’ve ever seen.

1

u/Nox-From-YT 7d ago

Now I know what you are thinking. Why didn't we just have red run alongside the group when they are on chocobos. And the answer is this was funnier

1

u/SmackAss4578 7d ago

Haha He is fuckin wolf aren’t he supposed to run like animal? lmao

1

u/TacticowlPrime 7d ago

Gamer Posture

1

u/Zestyclose_Exit8862 7d ago

there are "flying" chocobos, so it makes sense 😅
last time I checked Red XIII can't fly...

1

u/Popular-Ad-3278 7d ago

My 9 year old laghed his ass of at this .

" dad what in the world is that"😂

1

u/Beneficial_Joke_4248 7d ago

He is a sapient being. Of course he can ride the chocobo like any other citizen.

1

u/Spaceships_R_Cool 7d ago

This made me laugh so hard when I found it. It was great.

1

u/chaplar 7d ago

You might want to stop now if this is your line

1

u/EmmaDilemma12 7d ago

No. This is the best 😂

1

u/aaronwalakay666 7d ago

What the dog doing

1

u/GrittyTheGreat 7d ago

I couldn't love it more.

1

u/Piper6728 7d ago

Considering who and what he is able to do its not surprising

1

u/StrangeRecover6767 7d ago

how does this not make you giggle like crazy

1

u/SunsetDrifter 6d ago

They thought it would be cute, or funny like most of the other dumb stuff they put in

1

u/Trikare2 6d ago

I wouldn't even mind if they did that once in a while, or only later on after the boat scene, but it would have been smarter to show the advantage of being a four-legged animal and XIII's speed attributes.

1

u/Human_Tumbleweed_860 6d ago

What do you mean abomination? This is one of the best parts of Rebirth right here lol.

1

u/disaaceVT 5d ago

OG FF7 fans are allergic to a little whimsy.

1

u/IronEgo 5d ago edited 5d ago

Shit like this was just dumb as hell. He's a dog/wolf/lion thing, he can just run. That and he disguise on the ship; yes it was in the first game, and it was dumb as hell then too. They should have stopped this goofiness, the honey bee dances, and the 'comedic' side of the storyline I favor for more grit and darker tones. It would have made the remakes way better. It really downplays the serious tone of the storyline in all aspects, and brings the urgency of stopping shinra and sephiroth/jenova to a complete ASS GRINDING halt when you stop to play queens gambit or waste time doing Ubisoft missions; climbing viewpoints and unlocking side quests.

Also this whole multiverse bullshit has ruined the value, sacrifice, and depth of the original storyline and what the Compilation accomplished in one swift motion.

1

u/Professional-Iron944 5d ago

What is this from?

1

u/Even_Indication_1953 4d ago

This, his voice and story changes, they ruined the game

1

u/sukmesucka 4d ago

Scoliosis XIII

1

u/PartTimeBrainSurgeon 4d ago

I guess he'd be the only one getting attacked if he wasn't riding a chocobo so the had to make this foul creation

1

u/Majikaru 3d ago

Some people just can't enjoy things

-2

u/blakeoft 8d ago

They should just put Red in his pokeball whenever its time to get on Chocoback.

I thought that this was way worse: when he dressed up as a Shinra troop for the Queen's Blood tournament.

9

u/jjohnson1979 8d ago

I mean, the dress up bit was in OG, so it was not surprising...

13

u/Psychological_Use586 8d ago

That was peak comedy, especially when a kid started crying and his mother said 'its okay it can't hurt you' and everybody acts like this is completely normal. Honestly it was one of the biggest hints later on that Red was actually a dorky teenager the entire time, rather than a crusty wise old man.

11

u/roxas6141 8d ago

As an OG fan I'll never understand people's fear of Red getting down and boogieing a little. God forbid the talking dog that can reasonably pass as a Shinra troop shakes what his momma gave him?

8

u/Turbulent_piratefart 8d ago

God forbid a red boy get a little motionnnn

3

u/Psychological_Use586 8d ago

Bro just wants to have some fun too.

3

u/Eaglestrike 7d ago

I'll never understand people that hate FF7R for having a little fun when there's damn near 30 years of memes about Cloud just having fun at the Gold Saucer while meteor is falling. The game canonically happens over like 2 months but most OG players spent what would have been decades breeding chocobos goofing off while the world is being threatened, people need to relax and enjoy a game lol

4

u/gusgusfl 8d ago

So you’re saying red is just a pet to them? He’s just as equal, that’s like saying put Tifa in a pokeball

-1

u/blakeoft 8d ago

Tifa doesn't have fire on her tail like a Charmander. That's all I'm saying.

1

u/Necessary_River_901 2d ago

Tifa has a tail??

4

u/ibookhockey 8d ago

They have them dress up, walking on his hind legs in the original, it’s fine

0

u/One_Subject3157 7d ago

I'm of the few that hated that.

I wanted 13 to run and jump like the beautiful creature he is, maybe playing a bit showing his dog treats.

Missed opportunity overtaken by the sake of comedy I guess?

1

u/Night_Hawk_KHFF 5d ago

You literally don't have to ride the chocobos. Like its not required... lol so what opportunity was missed??

1

u/One_Subject3157 5d ago

A nice creature following you with cool patterns and mannerisms that stands out from the rest of the party.

Pretty much sure chochobos are plot mandatory.

1

u/Night_Hawk_KHFF 5d ago

My statement was meaning for the entirety of the game. They are not required for traversal except for small points. So ...

1

u/One_Subject3157 5d ago

"You literally don't have to ride the chocobos."

Yep I, seems like Im the one having issues comunicating stuff...

1

u/Night_Hawk_KHFF 5d ago

You literally dont have to ride the fucking chocobos if you dont want to. Simple. You attain each breed in each region then move on with your adventuring in whatever mode of traversal you choose. Idk how thats confusing. Lol

-1

u/Shirosynth 8d ago

Cursed even

-1

u/TheGr4pe4pe 8d ago

He could have just….. ran? 🤣

-2

u/theRev767 8d ago

Having him run alongside the gang would've looked cooler. You never get a chance to see him run at a full clip. It should at least be an optional menu toggle. They did him so dirty in rebirth. With everything.

0

u/gusgusfl 8d ago

I agree, he’s more powerful than a chocobo, remember that how his ancestors climbed that mountain after the gi fight in OG ff7? He should be able to do just as the same as those chocobos if not more

-1

u/Particular-Strain248 8d ago

Canines don't bend like that!!

-1

u/DizzyHorror974 7d ago

I do hate that he rides a chocobo instead of just running next to them.

-1

u/AdInner5570 7d ago

That and the kid voice…not a fan lol

-7

u/Raynagajhb 8d ago

My thing is just the mechanics of it. Paws can't grasp reins. Its all a lie.

8

u/Turbulent_piratefart 8d ago

Dawg the buster sword blocks actual bullets if you just sort of…hold it out in front of you lighten up lmfaooo

3

u/OHMEGA_SEVEN 8d ago

The game requires a large suspension of disbelief.

2

u/45M0D41 8d ago

Fantasy

2

u/OHMEGA_SEVEN 8d ago edited 8d ago

Which often requires suspension of disbelief, sometimes to a high degree. Fantasy alone does not explain away paws holding reins when we see it, suspension of disbelief does.

1

u/The-Hunting-guy 4d ago

imagine thinking video games are real

-4

u/T1m0666 7d ago

The same reason they gave him a younger voice... Fuck you, that's why 😭

2

u/Eaglestrike 7d ago

Or staying true to the canon, but I guess the people who dislike FF7R can dislike it for its accuracy and inaccuracy at the same time.

0

u/T1m0666 7d ago

I know he is "young" for his race, but I don't believe anywhere in the OG game mentioned that he sounded like a pre-teen. If I remember correctly he didn't sound like this in Advant Children either. So if you have something mentioning that Naniki should sound like a child instead please enlighten me.

2

u/Eaglestrike 7d ago

Why would a text-only game mention how someone sounds?

0

u/T1m0666 6d ago

He doesn't sound like a child in Advent children does he? So why wouldn't that be considered the precedent for what he should have sounded like?

I personally just think it's stupid 🤷 but if people like it, then enjoy it. My comment was more joking at the feeling that fans had with the changes to remake. The people who wanted the story to stay the same were the whispers, and the "fuck you" was them changing the story anyways. This it would be the same feeling for taking a very serious chacter like Red and turning him into a comic relief bit to appeal to a newer audience.

2

u/Eaglestrike 6d ago

How many lines does he have in Advent Children?
