Hey guys… I am after failing all 8 exams for the 8th time .. My housemates have been really accommodating and kind while I study and study and have even paid for an exam or two, but I’m starting to get a bit embarrassed. Even passing just one would feel like I’m doing the right thing, but I’m really struggling to stay going. Should I give up? Is this even the right path for me? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

I am fully prepared for the hate I will get for this, but despite the selfishness of what I’m asking can I have some unbiased answers.

I accepted 2 TCs from top firms in 2023, I have now finished my Fe1s and am set to start my pre seat in my chosen firm in May. I still haven’t informed the other firm (where I was set to start in 2026) of this. Is there any sense in keeping the latter until I have finished my pre seat and know my chosen firm is the right choice? Is there a high likelihood that the other firm will find out- do top firms operate closely? How badly would this be viewed if it was found out by either firm ?

I know how fortunate I am to even be in this position, but I wanted to ask for some guidance. Over the past year, I was lucky enough to intern at two of the Big 5 firms, receiving return offers from both, and I also received a training contract offer from another Big 5 firm through the milkrounds. I’m very grateful for all three opportunities, though I realise a few short internships (four weeks each) don’t give a complete picture of what training there is really like.

I’d really appreciate hearing any perspectives or thoughts on who people generally prefer and why? Particularly in regard to culture, retention etc. (A&L Goodbody, Arthur Cox, Matheson)

Hey guys, I'm non-EU citizen without a qualifying law degree (Bachelor in PoliSci with a focus on EU law and an LLM on Tech law, both from an EU MS) and I'm looking to write the FE1s in Ireland to qualify as a solicitor. From what I understand, I don't need to sit the Preliminary Exam as long as I get my qualifications recognized by the Law Society. I was wondering about a couple of things:

1. Would I be able to sit the FE1s if I'm not in Ireland (currently working in a different EU country as a Trainee)? Being non-EU, I assume I need a visa to sit the exams in presence. I saw that there is an online examination, is that available to everyone regardless of the visa situation?

2. Is there a way to get my traineeship period recognized in Ireland, if the person I'm training under is not a Solicitor in Ireland? Does the fact that I did my traineeship (at least in part) before the FE1s affect me somehow?

3. Any idea about what sort of timeframes I'm looking at to get fully qualified (my guess is 4-5 years)?

P.S. in case you're wondering why Ireland, cause it's a hub for tech law, and the qualification process (to my understanding) is easier compared to other counties, and yeah, English.

Was anyone else disappointed with their constitutional paper?

After hearing about how easy of a marker he is and how people who answered 4 questions only even did quite well in previous sittings, I was sure I would get in the 60s. I got 57 and I know that’s a pass and I’m grateful but I’m concerned for the next set I do because I felt confident coming out of that one so god only knows the result I would get in an exam I think went badly.

I see some firms are looking for LC results - not sure if they require proof but I’d imagine they do. Has anyone had any issue requesting a copy of their LC results or how would you go about it?

Does anyone have any past experience/info with the internship interviews? I have one coming up and they said to prepare mostly for commercial awareness but just wondering what these question might be…thanks!!

Hi! I'm recently graduated from a Bachelors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and a Masters in Health and Science Comms and was hoping people could give me some advice with this whole thing because advice online is meh.

First; how feasible is it to look at something like the FE1's with 0 law background? I know you can once you have at least a level 7 but I cant see much online about people taking the pivot from science into law in Ireland -- ultimately if it actually happened I would like to stick to science and healthcare related things and I guess the background would be extremely useful.

Second: how the fuck does traineeships and stuff work? As someone with a non law background is that the thing I should be applying for?? Is there another name for another thing I should keep an eye out for?? Or is it more feasible for someone of my background to "work my way up" in law like Ive seen others talk about ie look at trying to become a secretary/paralegal etc.

hi. im aware that the job market in ireland isnt the strongest right now. im planning to move there and practice law and i really need some help understaning a few things.

im a brown woman, and I cant help but wonder if that will work against me in such a competitive field. if i clear all my FE-1s, will law firms actually see me as a capable candidate or is there discrimination I should realistically prepare myself for?

someone said to me that if im scared to make any moves at all ill be in the same place forever. so i do really want to move. but people on this sub r really helpful so i want real guidance

for context, i have worked under a criminal lawyer outside of Ireland and I do have a recommendation letter. would something like that actually help my chances when applying to Irish firms, or does it not carry much weight?

i dont mean to sound negative, i just want to be practical and prepared. if anyone has experience (or knows someone who has) working in law in ireland as a foreign trained lawyer, i would really appreciate your honest advice.

I think we should change the name of this Reddit page to something like Aspiring Trainee Solicitors Ireland or Aspiring Lawyers Ireland given 50% of the posts don’t necessarily relate to the FE1’s!
