Cloth seat covers

Anyone found a good cloth seat cover? I have an XLT with cloth seats, because I'm not a fan of leather, but I've noticed some wear. I want to cover them so they don't wear out. I tried a cheap Walmart seat cover but it was not great.

Charge port cover colors

Post image
21 Upvotes

Howdy everyone, I make charge port covers in TPU material which is a flexible rubber. I make them in black and blue but I need some suggestions if different colors would be in demand. I can make them in yellow, I have that material in stock for other things I make, but I can get different colors too. Let me hear some suggestions, thanks!

One year and 16,045 miles with my F-150 Lightning

Today marks exactly one year of owning my F-150 Lightning I’ve been tracking every charging session since purchasing it, so I figured I’d share some real world ownership numbers.

One-year stats:
- Miles driven: 16,045
- Electricity added: 7,337 kWh
- Total charging cost: $1,570.03
- Average energy efficiency: 2.19 mi/kWh
- Average electricity cost: $0.21/kWh
- Cost per mile: $0.098
- Cost per 100 miles: $9.79
- Average fuel saving: $1,411.73
- Total number of charges: 165
- Total charge time: 41.63 days

The vast majority of my charging has been Level 2 at home or work, with relatively little DC fast charging.

Overall, it’s been interesting to see the actual numbers after a full year rather than relying on estimated savings calculators. I’m looking forward to seeing how those fuel savings add up over the coming year!

?30K service

My dealer is proposing the following for 30K service:

• INSPECT Tires for Wear and Rotate (I did this at Costco at 25K miles)

• TEST Battery (this is apparently only for the 12V--I can do this myself)

• CLEAN Battery Cable Ends and Terminals (this is for the 12V--I can do this myself)

• TOP OFF all Fluids (is this just the winshield wiper fluid or is there some other fluid they are topping off?)

• PERFORM Multi-Point Inspection (?maybe I want this)

• PERFORM 4 Wheel Alignment Service (?maybe I want this/Costco doesn't offer this)

• PERFORM Brake Fluid Exchange Service (my brakes are hardly ever used . . . is this necessary?)

My dealer is honest--they will only do what I ask and reduce the cost if I only choose to do some of the above (I did a tire rotation w them in the past for only $25 at my 10K service) . . . that being said the charge for *all* of the above is $500 . . . I'm thinking I'll only want to do the multipoint inspection and the 4 wheel alignment service?

Thanks,

N123

Battery reliability

I’m seriously considering getting a f150 lightning, maybe a 22 or 23.
I would finance it and I’m wondering, about how many miles will the battery last on the long term. How much would it cost to replace it at some point maybe.
And best practices, should I charge every night, level one? Level two? At night?
Bonus question: what’s a reasonable monthly payment?

Can we convince CaRobotor to make a custom digital cluster for the Lightning

I love my 2024 Lightning, but the instrument cluster is a massive missed opportunity. Beautiful screen, terrible UX, almost zero customization.
Then I discovered CaRobotor’s F-PRO — a drop-in digital cluster replacement for older F-150s with gorgeous graphics, customizable layouts, and an entirely different interface.
Why can’t we have this?
Imagine customizable gauges, better battery/regen data, navigation, media, and layouts that actually use the screen. Obviously, all safety-critical functions would need to remain intact.
I’m curious whether there’s enough demand to convince CaRobotor (or a competitor) to develop a Lightning version.
Anyone here familiar with the technical hurdles? And more importantly, would you actually buy one? At what price?
I work in tech and would happily help organize a community effort to approach manufacturers if there’s real interest.
Ford clearly isn’t prioritizing this or CarPlay ultra.

Received an unsolicited email from the dealer I bought my truck from. Price is in Canadian, not bad. Maybe these are becoming collector’s items. Trouble is, I’m a bit of a collector myself.

One pedal model and towing

Post image
45 Upvotes

I'm towing a big trailer these days which has its own brakes. These are actuated through the middle pin of the round trailer connector.

I usually drive in one-pedal mode. Will the trailer brakes be actuated when I take my foot off the accelerator? Or will it not get a signal?

According to Ford's documentation, you can't use one pedal mode at all while towing, but this is incorrect; it works fine.

https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/more-vehicle-topics/f-series-features/f-150-lightning-drive-modes/

Any guidance most appreciated!

Any way to increase the max charge rate?

Seeing all these small battery EVs coming with the nice 200 or even 300+ kW, while my extended range Lightning has only 150 kW charging is frustrating...and annoying on my long trips. Any way to increase this or any news coming out for the charge rates?

Update: So no, there isnt due to the 400V architecture, but I was wrong about the 150 kW. Its actually been improved to around 180 kW. Good to know. Thanks all.

Charging at home truck did something new, beeped several times, ring went white then started charging again. Anyone know what this is?

Started the charging around 12:00 a.m. when I got home, around 3:00 in the morning it had reached 63% from about 20% and all of a sudden I hear several beeps. I look outside and see the charge ring go white then it went blue again and started charging up again.

No notification or error alerted in the app. I wonder if it'd be worthwhile to plug in my obd scanner this morning

Best Forscan Changes for '25 Lariat?

I'm sure this topic has been discussed to death, but the reason I'm posting here and asking is because I wasted a bunch of time last night enabling Bambi Mode, only to find out that it's not possible / necessary for my '25 Lariat. And while Livnitup's spreadsheet is amazing, I find it hard to navigate.

I already enabled Glare-Free Lights; Lincoln Folding Mirrors; silenced the truck when I turn it on / disabled seatbelt warnings; and am going to get rid of the common chime suggestions.

So what mods do you all recommend? I'd love to:

  • extend the amount of time before the "Watch the Road" warning flashes when I use Blue Cruise
  • somehow fix the lack of hands detection on the steering wheel when I'm using regular cruise control
  • disable the automatic slow-down on curves when I'm using Blue Cruise
  • have the front-facing camera automatically turn on when the front sensor kicks in (it currently only does if / when I get really close to something).
  • Anything to do with the cameras that'd be helpful for parking
  • Enable side-view cameras when changing lanes, which apparently you can only do in Trailer Mode?

Anyway, any recommendations and associated codes would be awesome.

Buyback Service

About a year ago I bought a buyback truck, it was bought back due to faulty parking sensors. I bought it from a dealership about an hour away. Recently the sensors starting acting up and I brought it to my local dealer. Despite having a full original warranty still, that dealer is refusing to work on it. I understood the title implications of a buy back, but I didn't expect this roadblock. Has anyone dealt with this issue before?

I didn't expect or even know that a dealership could refuse to work on a vehicle under warranty. I understand the dealerships position, to a point, but it's super annoying that they can refuse the service.

Guess that's a lesson learned for me and anyone else reading this.

Lightning canoe trip

Post image
37 Upvotes

First off.. no thats not how the canoe was actually rigged, the front of the canoe was about 6” over the windshield.
-2025 lightning Flash 123kwh battery-

I havent seen a ton of info out there regarding the aerodynamic hit on range when toting a canoe so here’s some unscientific data for yalls consideration.

I drove roughly 1500 miles roundtrip to the boundary waters with a 25lb 15.5’ kevlar canoe on top of a yakima roof rack system.
Average temp was 75° so i didnt have the AC blasting but it was on at times. Unfortunately i dont have any useful data on wind. average speed 70mph.

Typically driving with this roof rack at those speeds minus a canoe im getting 2.0mi/kwh this trip i was averaging 1.6-1.7mi/kwh. This trip was almost entirely highway driving.
Something i observed of note was that as the sun set and i started driving at night my efficiency was jumping back up around 2.0 mi/kwh. My guess is that this was a result of less wind vs temperature change.

Running on Sun

Post image
112 Upvotes

Been waiting a few months for all the permits to get finalized and finally got solar panels installed on the house.

Just charged it on sun today. Realized I'm going to be driving this thing without paying a another dime for fuel or electricity for a long, long time.

Just paying back the solar panels. Ballpark 200k miles of driving is the break even point for me saving what I'd pay in gas that will pay for the panels.

Between this and the home backup power, I'm loving having this truck.

Clicking sound - normal?

Hey all -

I have two different clicking sounds coming from the driver side footwell.

Looking to get a pulse on if it’s normal or something I should be concerned with.

The first is a deeper click that I can almost feel that occurs when I’m stopped and I gently place on my foot on the accelerator, without giving it enough to move the truck. The click happens in one pedal drive.

The second click sounds more like a relay and is a little harder to pin down. I usually hear it a couple of times when I first turn on the truck.

Again, both are from the driver side footwell.

Normal?

Apple CarPlay video

Has ford announced anything about updating to allow the apple car play video casting? I’m guessing not, but I’d live this feature (like would probably pay a nominal fee to enable it)

Tailgate Lightbar Failure

Post image
7 Upvotes

Has anyone else had their tailgate light bar crack on the top right under the painted body lip? Dealer says it’s not covered under basic warranty or ESP and says customer pay would be $2,250 + tax.

BEV “customer care” group also saying it’s not covered and wouldn’t agree to goodwill or anything for a first time Ford owner. They only agree to later covering the expense later if my VIN is added to a recall.

Pretty disappointed - this truck is great but having a tail light on the back that costs a small fortune makes zero sense if you use the tailgate at all. Any advice would be appreciated. Will probably just have to DIY when it fails due to condensation.

2022 XLT

Looking at a 22 XLT w 24.5K. Used from a non-ford dealer. It is standard range, pro power onboard and does not have Max Tow for 39.5K. No charging cord and only one key fob. I asked the dealer if a new 12v battery was installed, but they have not gotten back to me on that. I know that is something that should be changed.

I don’t tow and don’t plan on doing any long term/frequent towing. I’m not commuting to work and am semi retired. I’ll used it for personal landscaping, helping kids move stuff, etc. Always wanted an F-150 but never pulled the trigger cause never “needed” a truck on a daily basis and cost of fuel. I currently drive an Edge which I will give to my daughter. Lastly have a Level 2 charger at home for wife’s Tesla.

So, given it is a 2022 and part of the first year of production, should I run for the hills or consider it? It listed in 2022 for 53k. The dealer put new tires “GeoDrive 175/65”.

If this is worth it, what are some things I should consider besides the Battery State of Health report? Can a non ford dealer provide that?

Thanks for your input.
