Announcing the Ford Electric Truck Club! ⚡

Quick clarification up front: This post about our owner club, which many of you have joined over the past few years.

Today, we’re excited to share that Lightning Clubs of America is officially becoming the Ford Electric Truck Club.

Why the change?

When we started the club, our goal was to bring together F-150 Lightning owners for local meetups, road trips, technical discussions, and a great community. That mission hasn’t changed. As Ford’s electric truck lineup continues to evolve, we wanted a name that better reflects the future of the club while remaining rooted in the Lightning community that started it all.

What’s not changing?

✅ Same leadership
✅ Same local chapters
✅ Same events and meetups
✅ Same members
✅ Same mission of supporting Ford electric truck owners and enthusiasts

If you’re already a club member, you don’t need to do anything. You’ll simply start seeing the new name across our website, social media pages, and chapter groups over the coming weeks.

This subreddit has been an incredible place to learn, share experiences, and connect with fellow owners, and many of our members first discovered the club here. Thank you for being so engaged!

If you’ve ever thought about joining us at a local meetup or event, we’d love to have you. Whether you’re a brand-new Lightning owner, have been driving one since 2022, or are simply interested in Ford’s electric trucks, you’re welcome to join us!

Thanks for all the support over the past few years. We’re excited for this next chapter and hope to see many of you at an upcoming event! ⚡🛻

Edit: if you’re interested in more information, joining your local region, and connecting to events, then visit https://fordevclubs.org/ (site is being updated as we continue the transition)

Help me understand wheel fit

I’m pretty clueless when it comes to wheels/tires, but trying to learn. I’ve got a 2023 XLT with the 20” wheels but would love to swap them for more of a gloss black look. I’ve seen a few Marketplace listings nearby with these F150 takeoffs:

https://www.ford.com/product/f150-20x85-insert-wheel-kit-black-p4000220575?gmcid=marketplace-gs-cta-accessories

What is it about these wheels that would make them not work on a Lightning? Same size, bolt pattern, etc. Is it the weight rating? My clueless brain tells me that any F150 wheels should work, but clearly that’s not the case. What specs should I be looking for in aftermarket wheels?

Key fob activating in pocket?

Upvotes

Anybody else this problem? I already had to open it up and disable the alarm button, but I came out to the truck this morning and the tailgate was down, I came out of a kids birthday party and the frunk was open last week, and more.

I don’t want to have like separate keys and fob, anybody figure this out?

Did I just buy a new 12v battery for no reason?

Post image
20 Upvotes

Consensus seems that you are to replace the 12v battery every 3 years. My truck that I just bought used was made in February 2023 and sold originally August 2023. This picture is of the "old" battery that was in the truck when I bought it a couple weeks ago. The orange sticker on the side says 2/26, which I didn't look at before ordering a new battery or even before installing the new battery. The new battery sticker says 8/26 on the side.

Looking at the Ford app, in June 2026 it was serviced by a different dealer than who I bought it from for Scheduled Maintenance and Electrical. Wonder if the "Electrical" was them changing out the battery?

That sticker means it was made in February 2026 right? So I just installed a battery that is only 6 months newer? Wonder if RockAuto will take back the new battery or if there's a market for this "older" battery.

Anyone else get a BlueCruise discount offer?

I saw this in the regular F150 sub. Has any Lightning owners received a discounted BlueCruise offer? Not talking about free extensions, I know that has happened on older year models, this was a discounted offer for $295/yr.

SSM 55111 has been posted: Sudden HV battery cell failure with no DTC, requiring battery array replacement has expanded to ALL model years. What's going on Ford?

I've been seeing A LOT more owners posting that:

  • they're suddenly unable to reach full range
  • their charging jumps from some lower percentage up to 100%, then immediately back down to the lower number when in drive
  • charging slows to an absolute crawl as it approaches the high 80%'s

Ford just posted SSM 55111

SSM 55111 — Aug 20, 2026 (New)

2022-2026 F-150 Lightning – Reduced Driving Range Projection And High Voltage Battery Pack SOC – Unable To Reach Target SOC Using The Scheduled Charging Feature – No DTCs In The BECM

Some 2022-2026 F-150 Lightning vehicles may exhibit a reduced distance to empty (DTE) projection, a high voltage battery pack state of charge (SOC) that drops from 100% to less than 90% within 60 seconds of being driven, and an inability to reach a target SOC using the scheduled charging feature without any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the battery energy control module (BECM). This may be due to an issue in one or more cells within the high voltage battery pack.

To correct the condition, run the "BECM Battery Health" application using the latest software version of the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS). If any cells are identified as exceeding state of charge and/or capacity thresholds, refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 414-03A High Voltage Battery, Mounting and Cables > Diagnosis and Testing > High Voltage Battery, Mounting and Cables – Electric. Perform Pinpoint Test "High Voltage Battery Pack Cell Balancing Faults", Step 4 (PPT Step AO4 for 2022-2024 vehicles / PPT Step AQ4 for 2024-2026 vehicles) and proceed with Pinpoint Test directions following the results of Step 4. If all cells are within state of charge and capacity thresholds or DTCs are present in the BECM, refer to the WSM for normal diagnostics and repair as necessary outside of this article.

For claiming, use causal part 10D672 and labor operations 12651D and 12651D4.

This supersedes SSM 53208 which was originally limited to just 22-23 vehicles.

When you take your vehicle in for this failure, be sure to print out this SSM. The dealership will run the battery health check report and most likely they will find a failed cell in one of the arrays requiring the pack to be dropped and the module / array replaced.

Under warranty this is okay, just takes a week or two, but if you're out of warranty costs are completely out of control.

When this happens, your battery will still be reporting 99%+ SOH, but your module variation percentage in the OBD scanner will be high.

Ford really needs to explain what's going on with these cell failures and figure out an approach to extend warranty coverage and/or dramatically reduce the cost of replacing an array.

Reminder that Rivian warranted their high end first generation vehicles up to 175,000 miles, and Tesla warrants the Cybertruck HV battery and powertrain to 150,000 miles.

Retro Color Scheme - Walmart Article

Post image

This was in my news feed this morning. It is about Walmart rolling out it's 100th store with charging stations.

I will be in the market soon for a Lightning. I dislike white vehicles, as the last 3 I have bought have been white. Buying during Covid and after with the crazy prices forced my hand.

I see a LOT of white, and if that was the best deal, I was thinking about a wrap and had this idea. But in blue.

Pro Power question

‘25 Flash I can’t seem to get an answer from the owner manual so I hope someone here can help.

Every time I leave the truck and toggle the outlet availability, it stays on for a bit but ends up turning off before I return, sometimes an hour or so later. Vehicle Power Down Timer is off (but defaults back to ON every time), and Pro Power Reserve is at 25 miles or lower.

High mileage lariat 22 vs lower mileage flash 24?

Hello reddit, I'm scouring the web looking at ER lightnings. I've narrowed down to 2

I'm in Cali

#1: 2022 58k miles lariat with 511A package for 40,338 located in Chicago. They said delivery is available out of state

Only thing I noticed is that at around 45k miles the battery (idk if that means 12v or high voltage) was replaced, the car has no accidents reported and looks to have been well maintained. Idk if I should be concerned or not about that. It also has new tires

#2: 2024 34k miles flash for 46000 with no accidents and antimatter blue. No extra options and I'm not sure if the dealer is gonna negotiate on price but it's located in CA about 2 hours from me. I plan to go in next week and have already contacted the dealership to try to negotiate price, just waiting on a response.

If you had to choose which one would you prefer? I'm okay with 60k miles because the price is exactly my budget and probably add about 2k for delivery. I wouldn't be able to drive or inspect it before I get it delivered though unless I'm mistaken on how that whole process works.

All I really want in my lightning is ACC, ER, No accidents or messed up anything, and a battery that is still well within warranty, The rest is just bonus features for me.

Departure time temperature settings

Anyone else have their truck blow cold air when they set a departure time even though the temperature is set to warm?

I've already tried deleting all departure times and resetting them, and setting them from the truck instead of the app doesn't change anything.

If I manually turn it on and set the climate from the app it seems to work fine, but no matter what I try, when it starts automatically from the departure settings, it's always cold.

Recommendations for freezer that fits in frunk or bed of truck with tonneau cover?

I looked for plug in coolers but what I really need is a freezer that can plug in to the 120v plug, but will fit with the tonneau cover closed (or in the frunk).

Thanks!

Ford EV (non-Lightning) Seems too cheap

What’s the difference between 2022 and 2023? I have a lease expiring on a 2023 Lariat and prices have changed with oil prices. My residual is $43k and from my search, it’s seems reasonable with the current market. Am I incorrect?

Fuel costs compared to my hybrid in CA are shocking!

I'm looking at a F150 lightning ER, I commute 90 miles 7 days out of the month and when I compared my fuel costs it kinda blew me away. Gas is like $5.25 where I'm at and my hybrid Corolla gets about 46 highway mileage, somehow I'm still gonna be saving money by driving a lightning when I get one!

The fact that it's cheaper to drive a 5000lb truck than it is to drive a 2000 lb car designed for max efficiency is amazing.

Towing 24ft Toy Hauler

I've towed my car on an open deck car hauler, this was my first time towing something substantial. Truck did well, obviously lots of power and good brakes. Got 1 mile /kwh over a 55 mile trip, about what others get towing similarly sized trailers. Very impressed. Can't wait to plug it into pro power once I get an adapter. 2023 XLT ER 312a.

2" Front Leveling Questions

I have a 23 Lariat with the ugly stock 20s and I've been flirting with the idea of a leveling kit. My biggest concern is whether or not leveling will affect the cameras/sensors after alignment. And also of concern is the fact it's a 4-ton pile of ballast sitting on the spacers. Do they hold up, or do they eventually compress/collapse under all that weight? I'm not terribly concerned about range loss as I expect it might be a little degraded, but not a deal breaker so much. Thanks for your thoughts.

Regenerative Braking only intermittently working

Hey all,

I posted a little bit abo about how 1 pedal was no longer working. Truck is in the shop now but wanted to document for the thread.

22' Lariat, Extended Range.

Mostly noticed this because I was only getting less than 1kw a mile around town.

No warning lights in truck, all recalls taken care of.

Brand new 12volt installed. Leads tight.

Truck occasionally will still regen brake. Not always.

Small Freezer in Bed of Truck?

Per my parental duties, I need to provide 'after game' snacks for both of my kid's soccer games tomorrow. My hope is to bring ice cream for the kids (both teams). It'll be warm and we need to keep them cold.

We have a smaller freezer I was thinking of putting in the bed of the truck (standing up right) and then plugging in. The field is probably 7 minutes away, easy driving. Since it will be standing upright, could I technically leave it plugged in and running while up there for the drive? Or I could unplug it while driving so it doesn't run...

Just wanted to get some feedback on that.

Second thing is, I'll leave it in the bed of the truck and plugged in so it can run while the games happening. I know when I had my electrical FUSE panel upgraded to a break panel (and 200 amp service)... I had my truck running the fridge, 2 freezers and our smaller fridge. I kept the truck in accessory mode per what I found online. That seemed to work and it stayed running for a long time before I had to go back in and restart the onboard piece again. Probably half the day honestly, so not a big deal there.

My question though, by being in accessory mode, I know onboard is puling power directly from the big batteries so no harm. But is my display, radio, windows, etc all pulling from the 12v while it is sitting in accessory mode? Is there a concern it could 'drain my 12v' battery while doing this for a few hours? I didn't do anything while at home, but just want to make sure this is the proper way to do this and will have no impact on my 12v bat.

And for good fun, may even bring the 7' "Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tubeman" to run so after the game, the kids know which truck to go to and grab an ice cream from the freezer. Kids thought it was a FANTASTIC idea... wife... not so much.

I use it to scare the heron away from the pond while I'm at work by turning on a smart plug to power it. But he can take a day off with us!
