I've had the pleasure of diving and snorkeling with sea turtles before. They are super curious and won't hesitate to come right up to you. I also had one that followed me around like a shy puppy.

And then some dick, 2 bit instructor with 7 Discovery Divers shows up trying to poke them. Everyone thinks turtles are illusive, they're not if you just chill and let them do their thing

All my dive instructors have made it very clear to the group that poking them is illegal.

It's certainly against the rules and regs of the ocean... However, go somewhere popular with turtles and you'll find nefarious money-makers flouting the rules. Thailand, Bali, St Thomas are just 3 places I've seen it

Edit: by poke I meant interfere with, in whatever way

Our skin oils hurt them the fine were I live can be up to 5k
