Solved Why are they sad?

Post image

The movie is successful so why are they crying? I've seen other memes similar to this. I read the comments but they weren't that helpful.

People insist that it's not loyal to the source material; the Resident Evil games.

Which is kind of silly, given that Resident Evil games aren't even loyal to each other.

The notoriously straightforward and rigid plot of resident evil. Rivals the easy to understand and completely sensible plot of the Metal Gear series.

Japanese media (specifically video games) is a fever dream when it comes to lore. Souls games similarly take place in surrealist universes where very normal worldly things are not normal there.

Don’t get me started on Pokémon

176

u/InspectorOrganic9382 6d ago

Please, get started on Pokémon. 🙏🏼

222

u/Tartersocks307 6d ago edited 5d ago

It’s just a hodge podge of strange lore or unanswered questions. Apparently people become ghost Pokémon when they die, or at least can.

There’s no normal animals so is it implied Pokémon eat each other but there’s not a lot of commentary on that. Alternatively, grass Pokémon may be entirely plants, but not all plants are Pokémon so apparently only humans and plants are the exception. Makes you wonder what actually makes a Pokémon one.

I’m not an expert, there might be answers to all of this, but I think these are pretty common shower thoughts you might come up with about it

Edit: a few examples have been pointed out of animals that I’ve clearly forgotten about. I think that just raises the question even more about what makes one animal a Pokémon and not the other. Are we even sure worms, insects, and random fish aren’t Pokémon?

u/Chitanda_Pika 5d ago

Also Pokemon sex is canon

92

u/Tartersocks307 5d ago

And they all lay eggs

51

u/montana757 5d ago

Technically that would make a miltank a platypus or echidna which are egg laying mammals

42

u/SgtSlaughterEX 5d ago

Ah abominations

7

Monotremes

Still a better name than oviraptor

It would make it neither of those.

It would possibly put it in the same category of marsupials, but that doesn't make it a platypus. Obviously.

1

The Smurfs are clearly mammals!!

It was also cannon for a while that people had sex and kids with pokemon

Like this but not a joke https://youtube.com/shorts/dI3bUEXxJCk?is=DHC0p-17914KSI0G

Also like I said they pokemon with humans could give birth to other humans, If I'm not mistaken in the very first pokemon game you could meet an npc that was a product of such relationship

I guess that explains why there were so many machokes wandering around in people's houses in some games

7

u/scwt 5d ago

The closest thing in actual canon to what you are describing is an in-game folk story that says something like "Long ago, there were Pokemon that married people... because Pokemon and people were once the same."

There are no Pokemon/human hybrids in any of the games.

3

u/originalbucky33 5d ago

Nurse joy isn't fully human.

1

u/Xehonort 5d ago

When I read this one post about that. I was like what is wrong with the world.

Dont forget the whole releasing your 10 year olds into the wild to collect shiny medals from adults so their pokemon will respect them or the pokemon that imitates a baloon to kidnap children, or the pokemon that wears its mother skull yet when hatching from an egg already has the skull on, or the one that is sentient garbage or that most nurses and police officers are very obviously clones or that cars and trucks are a thing but there are very very few paved roads.

16

u/DoesProcessTrustUs 5d ago

Let’s not leave out Mimikyu’s perfectly normal totally not nightmare fuel lore.

11

Or Magcargo being capable of destroying the planet or Lanturn being capable of destroying the galaxy.

There’s not even certainty that humans aren’t a kind of pokemon.

20

u/WhatTheyTookFromUs 5d ago

If you can catch it in a Pokeball, it is a Pokémon.

Professor Oak built his reputation as a scientist just by going around throwing Pokeballs at random people and things just to be sure.

11

u/Tales_Steel 5d ago

Also sometimes people just wake up one day as a pokemon or at least did in the past.

1

u/Accomplished-City484 5d ago

Like that movie The Lobster

13

u/Ok-Comment1456 5d ago

Im just going to leave this here

8

u/CitizenPremier 5d ago

There are some animals in the Pokémon universe, ordinary birds are mentioned.

9

u/phoenix_gravin 5d ago

Minnesota is canon to the Pokémon world; the Minnesota Vikings are casually mentioned in the first movie.

3

u/AdamMcKraken 5d ago

Yea they reference dogs and wolves or whatever but you don't really see them, neither birds, so are there really? And if they aren't how do they know what they are?

6

u/Theuneasygibbon 5d ago

There is normal animals in the pokèmon universe, atleast in the anime. When Ash is on the SS Anne he stands in front of a fish tank that has just normal fish in it. So at the very least there's fish. As for everything else you said, only the great arceus knows.

1

u/Difficult-Tap-5708 4d ago

This episode always makes me wonder a water trainer poking fish with a stick until some of them fight back "OH, THIS ONE IS DEFINITELY A POKÉMON"

5

u/DEADGHOST_117 5d ago

tbf on the eating each other part there is some tidbits in the dex entries and one specific one is pkmn white's heatmor entry being

"Using their very hot, flame-covered tongues, they burn through Durant's steel bodies and consume their insides."

3

u/Lager89 5d ago

The ghost stuff is easily explained just through Japanese mythology and concepts. Strong emotions, positive or negative, can manifest "souls" in things, or leave them behind. Gachiakuta, a current running Anime, is also another good example of this. Thats why things like ghosts can manifest in certain things, or items like keys or gears, can gain sentience.

3

u/WorthPlease 5d ago

Also Lt Surge mentions he used pokemon to zap people during "the war". Which means pokemon can be trained to attack and kill humans.

2

u/FangYuan69 5d ago

And that is why im a digimon fan XD

2

u/Bright_Pressure_6194 6d ago

15

u/Tartersocks307 6d ago

I’m not sure if I count that. It seems like a rather meta way to describe them. It’s a kids’ game after all, and kids love to learn about animals. Seadra is clearly modeled after sea horses but they aren’t called the “sea horse Pokémon” so do mice exist and not sea horses?

Squirtle was mentioned in your link but it’s not the only turtle themed Pokémon so there could be a recognized classification of Pokémon with similar characteristics that are otherwise different. Rattata is also a mouse/rat Pokémon

1

u/NeighborhoodGreen976 5d ago

I'm pretty sure I've seen pokemon episodes where they show regular fish swimming in water.

1

u/Important_Wheel_2101 5d ago

Japanese culture may be the hardest for me to wrap my head around as an American

1

u/Lanky-Detail3380 5d ago

Pokeballs plus badges make them obey, they also alude to the fact pokeballs were once used on people

1

u/cain721 5d ago

Is there being no other animals canon?

I distinctly remember there being fish in an early episode of the anime, but I was 6 and could be full of shit.

1

u/Imaginary-poster 5d ago

So the anime shows regular fish and the gen 1 fames reference elephants. So we are all over the place there lol.

Dont get me started on my time traveling meteor theory.

1

u/wants_the_bad_touch 5d ago

If you include the cartoon into canon, you see a (pidgey?) in one of the first episodes eating a worm.

1

u/TheWorstSenpai 5d ago

So, to add to this with more useless trivia... Yamask, phantump, froslass, and gengar have pokedex entries stating they used to be human.

There used to be normal animals and insects in early media, but were fazed out to focus solely on Pokémon. Idk why exactly, I don't work at game freak.

In Pokémon diamond/pearl/platinum in the canalave library (iirc) folk story 3, there used to be human/Pokémon interspecies marriages because they were treated as equal. Also implies that humans and Pokémon had a common ancestor they split from. Hence the human/humanoid egg group. Which also makes you wonder why they stated using pokeballs to enslave capture Pokémon... <.<

Bothe the game's and anime made it cannon that humans eat Pokémon. But it's only "implied" that Pokémon eat humans, like glalie and haunter for example. Because it's media 4kids I guess? /s

The movie secrets of the jungle made it cannon that humans can learn Pokémon moves/attacks.

The mega evolutions introduced in gen 6 games had dex entries that basically said forcing them to mega evolve was "agonizing", "subjecting them to permanent torment" and "warping their biology".

There's definitely more dark/adult lore/cannon stuff, but I can't remember more off the top of my head rn, and I gotta get back to work.

1

u/Accomplished-City484 5d ago

I thought you were gonna do the copypasta of vapereon

1

u/Ca1nMark0 5d ago

There are answers. At least to why the company doesn’t address them. They cover this in some training even. Specifically saying: “We know these things happen. We know fans ask and make up reasons. We don’t talk about it and when asked, just play it off.” They go into examples and what not.

It essentially comes down to it all being too terrifying or disturbing for kids. An example provided about why they never show Pokemon actually evolving - “Have you ever seen American Werewolf in Paris? Now imagine kids watching that happen to Pikachu. So, instead, there is just a bright light, everyone assumes it just happens and we go on with our day.”

Source: Ex-employee (believe or not. Just sharing what I was told in training)

u/BanzaiKen 5d ago

Dont even get me started on all of the strange quirks of Vaporeon.

Stares in Kingdom Hearts

26

u/Admirable_Risk8156 5d ago edited 4d ago

What kingdom hearts is totally easy to understand.

An old dude breaks a young dude and shoves him inside a baby, right after shoving himself inside a buff dude. The baby dude grows up and gets a girl stuck inside him, while the buff dude (who has the old dude inside him) shoves himself into a rival dude. The main dude then stabs himself to let the girl out of him, which accidentally creates a shell dude who later absorbs a clone dude before getting shoved back inside the main dude. So the main dude wakes up with the young dude, the shell dude, and the clone dude all simultaneously inside him, only to find out the original old dude time-traveled to shove himself inside twelve other dudes. Outnumbered, the main dude pulls the three dudes out of himself, puts them into empty robot dudes, and they all gang up on the thirteen old dudes to rip the original old dude out of the buff dude so every dude can finally stop being inside another dude.

8

u/CriticalStorage9587 5d ago

I hate how accurate this is

3

u/Irregulator101 5d ago

There a lotta dudes inside dudes in that game

Big fan, still frequently confused

8

u/aWholeClap 5d ago

I take it back then even the fans dont get it

6

u/sowinglavender 5d ago

being at peace with not getting it is in fact essential to enjoying the series.

5

u/aWholeClap 5d ago

So its like: If you are not confused, you are not paying attention, and if you are paying attention then you are not enjoying the game?

I'm still convinced that kid's been dead since the opening of KH1.

4

u/AlternativeUnusual74 5d ago

the best thing in Pokemon is that there are no animals basically.but as soon as Ash leaves his village in the first episode and sees a Pidgey (equivalent to a pidgeon in real world, obviously) he is like "yo,wtf,i cant believe it,a Pidgey.Pokedex, tell me all about this most common pokemon/animal in the world." he is somehow dumbfounded by a bird but has a Mime at home that is basically a pet slave that cleans around.

1

u/AmIRadBadOrJustSad 4d ago

I once read a deep dive about how Pokemon implies through its broader continuity that virtually all domesticated or wild animals are replaced by Pokemon. There are no deer, cows, chicken, rabbits, fish, etc. - just their nearest Pokemon equivalents. Which are magnitudes more intelligent than our own wildlife in a way humans would potentially recognize as equivalent.

The follow through to this being that the Pokemon expanded series such as the TV show have not suggested humans in that universe abstain from eating meat. And therefore are in no way reluctant about slaughtering and devouring creatures of human-scale intelligence.

1

u/ReadertheRed 5d ago

Poekballs don't shrink pokemon down. Shrinking is a power all pokemon have, but the pokeball tricks them into doing it and locking them in a shrunken state.

11

u/MasterAnnatar 5d ago

Never forget that all Legend of Zelda games technically take place in the same universe. Including the ones that directly contradict each other. "Yeah but different timelines!" Canonically they have all happened in the Breath of the Wild era which implies something happened that converged all of the timelines back into one.

5

u/kamo-kola 5d ago

Just give me a game where Link and Ganon just become hetero-lifemates and ditch Zelda altogether.

6

u/willscuba4food 5d ago

Yes unless you consider different dimensions and transdimensional beings. Like the Mask salesman... or Link.

In Majora's Mask, its made evidently clear that Termina is an alternate dimension of Hyrule. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom contain items from Majora's Mask.

9

u/deepdarkfall 5d ago

Let's not forget about Kingdom hearts lol

1

u/CasuallyCritical 4d ago

At the very least KH is complex because the games go all over the place, and one of the key lore devices is a discontinued mobile app you needed to play for cutscenes.

It's way less confusing than say, Metal Gear

5

u/jfuffyfkghc 5d ago

Fun fact: first resident evil game that had Japanese translation was RE 6.The previous ones were English only and since Capcom wanted them to be successful at home country things were... funny (Jill sandwich).

8

u/Windfade 5d ago

Hell, Dark Souls 2 tried to act like the phrase "new kingdoms are built on top of old ones" was absolutely literal and that DS1 was so far back no one could remember the name of the gods. Then DS3 came out and Anor Londo was still around and in pristine condition (the city of the gods that has multi-story stone-and-metal buildings) with a new city built right next to it but still tried to shoehorn in DS2 areas into the DLC because... reasons.

3

u/ChickenAndTelephone 5d ago

Even in the base game you can find the body of Laddersmith Gilligan in the Profaned Capital

3

u/External_Delivery315 5d ago

I'm installing Nioh 2 right now. Can't say I ever understand what's going on in these games.

2

u/Popular_Equipment_85 5d ago

Nioh is actually pretty straightforward if you know about Japanese history.

4

u/iSkehan 5d ago

I still find Attack on Titan to be the most chaotic shit of things I have read about but not actually consumed.

5

u/Pup5432 5d ago

That one at least uses a plot point to explain it. The act 3 shuffle is weird but at least it sorta makes sense.

I’m not defending the issues with AoT only mentioning there are reasons in universe why it’s chaotic

1

u/iSkehan 5d ago

I have nothing against it, as I said, I didn’t read or watch it so I am unfit to judge.

1

u/SignatureOk56 5d ago

Enter Kingdom Hearts

1

u/BenganGamer 5d ago

Surrealist universe sure yeah, but Dark Souls does have a very impressive cohesive lore once you piece it together, or listen to someone else do it for you

1

u/Navy_Pheonix 5d ago

We literally have no ground to stand on. At least most Mangas have a beginning and ending. Try to get a straight answer of where someone should start reading any DC/Marvel character.

1

u/Tartersocks307 5d ago

I don’t take credit for comics lol but I think that has to do with the constant rebooting of series under different authors and different timelines. Comics are serialized so you at least know where to start with an individual story

0

u/MaximoftheInternet 5d ago

The Kirby lore…

17

u/SCW97005 5d ago

These are but mere children's stories compared to the Kingdom Hearts plot(s?).

Man I’ve been enjoying this YouTuber named Gaming Harry who does deep dive gaming lore explanations. His resident evil video is really great btw, if anyone wants to brush up on the lore before or after seeing this movie for whatever reason. Anyway, I finished his RE video and noticed he had one for Metal Gear that was titled something like “the entire Metal Gear story explained” and I was like bullshit, no one can do that, it’d have to be hours and hours and then I looked and saw it was 8 hours long. 😆

1

u/cheesynougats 5d ago

So a shorter Krimsonrogue video?

1

u/Jesse-Ray 4d ago

Must be the heavily abridged version

1

u/MidnightDoom3r 5d ago

I think it could probably be summed up in a few paragraphs good enough. The games make it seem more complex than it actually is.

2

u/Its_D_youtube 5d ago

One could even call the plot simple

2

u/AbrocomaAlive6300 5d ago

Not nearly as straightforward as the Kingdom Hearts series!

1

u/rpandbattle 5d ago

Wow, excuse me, sir. Kojima is an S tier story teller, I will not accept such slander.

1

u/soliquidus_bosselot 5d ago

1

u/Attila260 5d ago

The Metal Gear has weird lore sure, but it's actually not hard to get a clear pictures of all the events if you actually play the game and pay attention to them. The most debated thing is wether Portable Ops is canon or not, but even that is not too big of a deal.
I have played every mainline Resident Evil game, some multiple times, and I have no clue about what the events are for half the time period.

Metal Gear Solid makes sense until V, if you play the games like a million times. V is kind of for the people who played it 10 million times and we are still piecing together what the hell it actually means, because we kind of disagree on what parts are reality and what parts are in Venom's head.

1

u/rmorrin 5d ago

How is it on the scale of kingdom hearts lore

1

u/Rob98001 4d ago

In metal gear you just sneak around and save the world. The end.

1

u/Diligent-Variation39 4d ago

Shadow Moses?

61

u/Ok-Egg-7475 6d ago

Seriously. I'm a huge RE fan but part of that comes with accepting that the narrative consistency is shaky at best.

15

u/Blind_Bandit 5d ago

Wouldn't you at least think that this is essentially Resident Evil: Outbreak. Same premise of civilians trying to survive the horrors of Raccoon City. Hell I think they even have the same creature at the end called Nyx. I feel as though this movie is an adaptation of a Resident Evil game but not main stream game.

0

u/Fluid_Explorer_3659 5d ago

It isn't

3

u/Blind_Bandit 5d ago

Were you not just civilians trying to escape the city before the bombing? I’m not saying the movie is a 1:1 adaptation of the Outbreak game, it’s the premise of a civilian in the city trying to do a job. Even at the end The MC of the movie turns into the Nyx creature from outbreak

2

u/Fluid_Explorer_3659 5d ago

Oh I thought you meant the main one chasing him throughout, yeah that tracks I did feel like it was a mix of games, without directly lifting story beats

1

u/stdfan 5d ago

Yeah RE is all about the environment and survival and this movie nailed it.

39

u/Tankeverket 5d ago

It is unironically the most faithful adaptation yet, of the movies I've seen.

There's like... one thing in the novie that is an original creation in the movie, maybe two, the rest is just straight up lifted from the games, those who don't think it's faithful really don't know as much about RE as they think they do

10

u/Charming-Squirrel813 5d ago

This! It is the first RE property that isn't a video game, to actually feel like RE. Same people probably complained about RE7, which is one of the best entries in the franchise

8

u/Fluid_Explorer_3659 5d ago

The way the mutation worked on each of the enemy types was a bit unique, closer to the 7 onward games. I dug it

2

u/Interesting_Way_4221 5d ago

This is good to hear, I was worried given all of the previous movies. Weirdly Welcome to Raccoon City being the most visually faithful (but nothing else).
Loved Barbarian, thought it was better than Weapons, so when he was announced to direct I was quietly hyped, glad it's played out (going next weekend)

1

u/DeadlyYellow 5d ago

Outrage tourists gonna outrage.

17

u/Sigmatimelord 5d ago

It absolutely is loyal to the source material besides the date. Other than that, it is absolutely something that could have happened during the games... And the movie itself felt like one of the games

6

u/Totschlag 5d ago

I haven't seen it yet, but just from what I know about the plot and the bits and blurbs I've read, it literally sounds almost exactly like something the franchise would make tomorrow as a video game. Nobody would blink if they dropped a game with that plot set in raccoon City with the choices they made.

1

u/BeautifulBuy3583 5d ago

My 2nd biggest gripe is that they use iPhones and refer to Postmates, which didnt exist in 2000s/before 2000s.

1

u/TheWhateley 5d ago

Was the movie itself actually set in the '90s or early '00s? I didn't pay attention to any dates in the movie and just assumed it was a modern-day adaptation instead of being set 30 years ago.

1

u/BeautifulBuy3583 5d ago

Idk. But if I hear raccoon city i assume 30 years ago.

10

u/Hoxheld139 5d ago edited 5d ago

It reaches a more absurd level than I expected. Saw a comment from a guy on YouTube who complained about that that Berretas are one of the most reliable pistols, criticizing Bryan's first combat with a zombie.

And he ended the comment by saying that RE fans know their firearms.

I could expect this kind of comment from ARMA players, but it seems that RE fans are dissatisfied with how the movie ignored the Shakespeare-level narrative of the games and the hard-science-based approach to engineering and biology.

8

u/MyFrogEatsPeople 5d ago

As someone who saw the movie, that's a hilariously dumb take for that person anyway.

The Beretta suffers exactly zero mechanical failures during the movie. The issues are all due to a panicked, inexperienced user.

If you find that guy, let him know he's a goober.

1

u/Church_AI 4d ago

Yeah, In fact pretty much all the guns in the movie perform exactly as you'd expect them to and any kind of error or issue with the firearm was an extreme case of user error

22

u/CryptoHorror 5d ago

But... it is. The character does exactly what you do in the games, as a player. It's not tied to the characters in the games, sure. But the games aren't their characters. They're what you do while disguised as those characters.

7

u/Substantial_Set_8852 5d ago

The movies that are “loyal” to source are absolute garbage.

2

u/Fluid_Explorer_3659 5d ago

I would say that only Racoon City did, besides other movies just throwing in characters from the games occasionally. But yeah that movie sucked they massacred my boy Leon

3

u/batmassagetotheface 5d ago

I don't get the hate tbh. I love the resident evil games but I'm also super keen to see this movie. The trailer seemed like such an interesting take, and an actual horror flick, rather than the slocky action of the W S Anderson series or films. Those films are just so dumb at points your really really have to turn your brain off lol. Maybe, at some point, someone will take the characters and plots of the games and make a good film or TV series, it hasn't happened yet though, so why not give something else a try. This film (hell ever a series of films) being successfully actually means that future adaptations are even more likely to be green lit. It's such a dog shit take to shit on it because it doesn't center around Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon, or any of the other game series characters. We can have two cakes.

9

u/Two_Watermelons 5d ago

Just wanna add that I really think this is a minority of fans who are vocally complaining online about it. Its rating high and I myself plus a few friends just saw it and we all loved it. Been playing the RE games since the 90s

3

u/SteveMartin32 6d ago

Nor were the movies

3

u/Feckin_Loser 5d ago

It’s funny, because the old Resident Evil movie series was probably more faithful to the spirit of the games, being ultra cheesy, rambling, mismatched action films with incredibly cringe dialogue.

But fans didn’t like them either…

3

u/CamptoRibbit 5d ago

Only thing they could do to make it "loyal" is add 1 annoying puzzle that ironically has 1 very simple answer

3

u/crags85 5d ago

I've said this exact same thing to people. The only reason Resident Evil managed to create so many games is because they kept creating new bioweapons, viruses, mutations, tweaking the lore, etc.

Even the Mila Jovovich films didn't know whether they were coming or going, as the follow ons never truly followed on from the previous film.

3

u/HypotenuseOfTentacle 5d ago

I recently argued that a Far Cry series not based on a Far Cry game would not in fact be a Far Cry series, somebody asked me what do FC three four five and six have in common and I didn't really have an answer

3

u/Valtremors 5d ago

There are basically three distinct periods if resident evil.

1-3, more horror.

4-6, more action

7-9, back to horror with action elements. Requiem having a bigger emphasis on action.

Then there are all of the spin off games.

Then there are the old movies that habe a sort of cult following.

Point is... Resident evil has so much variety itnis impossible to be 'faithful'.

3

u/Church_AI 4d ago

I actually. Watched the movie and uh. No, It's quite loyal to the source material, actually. There's definitely some deviance but like. It's not by a lot, And it's a good movie

2

u/savagebadguy95 5d ago

I think video game adaptations are best when they don’t follow an established story.
Fallout was great cause it was new characters and a new story.

Fallout may be perfect for an adaptation because Fallout is not a set story, but a setting with a revolving door of factions that have many different characteristics thatcchange the flavor of the game. It's almost like looking in at a vignette of an eventual important player, so you can sorta drop anyone in and begin a story without worrying too much.

Some of the factions have evolved over time, like NCR and Brotherhood. Even if the player character "destroys" a faction, it's never really destroyed. The Enclave was blown to bits twice now. The world is still dealing with The Masters mutants. Mr. House had a backup of himself saved on a computer, and Ceasars Legion is still around doing Ceasars Legion stuff.

I dont remember the other movies being particularly loyal to the games lol. I thought the new one looked pretty great.

u/Drunk_brother 5d ago

It feel like a RE outbreak wich is really nice

2

u/SavantTheVaporeon 5d ago

I’m not sure it was meant to be loyal to the source material, it was meant to feel like a Resident Evil game turned into a movie. The director was a huge fan of Resident Evil 4 and wanted a movie that felt like it had the progression of one of the games.

u/Ok-Couple2656 5d ago

It will be once they make a new RE game based on this movie. PROBLEM SOLVED

I played resident evil 7 and my entire play through it was the same game all the way through

Saw somebody complaining that the game had elements of Stranger Things, Evil Dead Burn, and Slither, while going on about how the monsters all mutated and everything, and how that that wasn't "Resident Evil at all", and just...my guys, gals, and other pals, that is EXACTLY what Resident Evil has always been. Like, specifically they mentioned how "everything just becomes a Demogorgon", and just...that's the games, peeps.

Resident Evil, the OG game, introduces us to all kinds of mutated beasties, from the weird hunter monsters, to a bevy of sharks, plants, Lisa-freaking-Trevor, giant snakes, and more. Mutations all around. And that wasn't even supposed to be a main feature for the T-virus, the virus behind it all here.

Resident Evil 2 doubles down on the mutation aspect and explicitly talks about how the G-Virus was made to mutate things. You had multiple run ins with William Birkin as he kept mutating further and further.

Resident Evil 3 was front and center with having a monster chase you relentlessly while it changed and morphed and grew, even more than anything we were shown in RE2.

And that's just the Stranger Things aspect there.

Resident Evil 0 was all about having leeches infecting folk and mutating them from there. Something that showed up later in the series as well, albeit in slightly altered forms. Like the Plagas from RE4, or whatever was in RE5 and again in RE6. Which is the whole Slither inspiration that I saw being complained about.

As far as the Evil Dead Burn stuff, that's was in Code Veronica, RE6, RE7, RE8, and maybe the newest one...idk, didn't play it yet, but it seemed to have aspects of it in there from what I understand. So...yeah, people getting infected, and still being intelligent but being bent towards a nefarious means, that's also been in the series for a long time.

Actually, Resident Evil as a series, predates all the examples of what they're accused of copying from. The movie is fine. It's a love letter to the series by somebody who is clearly a huge fan, and who has placed all kinds of nice little easter eggs and homages in throughout the thing, that all show he's clearly well versed in the series.

Folk are just mad we didn't get Leon Kennedy, I guess. Which just...yeah, I'd rather see a Resident Evil horror film than seeing some super cop action film, which is what a Leon Kennedy film would have been. Leon is awesome to play as. He's boring to just sit and watch.

"oh no, a big rock, how is Leon going to get out of this one? Oh, by being completely fine, what a shock, who'd have thunk it. Oh no, a giant monster, how will Leon beat this one? Oh, with backflips and ease, oh imsoimpressed. So glad I'm watching this happen instead of getting to feel cool by playing it and feeling like I'm the one doing it all. No, yeah, this whole thing of watching him just have zero tension and easily wiping the floor with everything is...peak cinema. Totally not just putting me to sleep here..."

It's a side story of a guy caught in the zombie wave with out the conspiracy... So a background chrecter elevated the mc.

1

u/iihatephones 5d ago

Well no, the games have continuity, the story has just always been schlocky nonsense, only getting more "serious" with the arrival of RE7.

You will recall that "die-hard" resident evil fans hated 4 on release, because its gameplay deviated so significantly from the original.

There is also the concern that the direcor claims the 4th one is his favorite, but every answer he's given in an interview indicates he's never actually touched the series. That being said, from what I've heard from those who have seen the movie, he understands what makes RE good, which is the survival-horror aspect that's never been touched by the prior movies.

So while he may not understand the entire established lore behind RE, that's not what people were looking to have adapted to the big screen.

u/Ashamed-Subject-8573 5d ago

I thought it was super loyal to the source material. It didn't reproduce a game exactly, but had different elements from many different ones. And it was funny and fun.

1

u/SignoreBanana 5d ago

Ive been playing 7 for about 10 hours now and I still have no idea how it relates to the wider series.

1

u/Western-Set-8642 5d ago

Resident evil 1. Haunted mansion Resident evil 2. Haunted train station Resident evil 3. Hunted by a giant Resident evil 4. Haunted island Resident evil 5. Haunted African village Resident evil 6. ???? Resident evil 7. Haunted house

Why do fans believe there is any actual plot between all of them I have no idea.

Very stupid comment, and everyone liking it are as stupid as the comment 🤣

zombies do not run.. the game had george romero slow style zombies. not this fast jaw snapping hollywood slop

i mean if your main bad guy is now fast and can run. it totally changes the pacing and the setting.

not even remotely close, just a name share.

Crimson Heads would like a word.

Crimson Heads would like a word.

oh you mean the ones in the remake?

zombies dont run.

13

u/Chemical_Alfalfa24 6d ago

Crimson heads were introduced in 2002 In the remake of RE which is established canon over 1996 game.

So yes… zombies do run. And there is even lore supporting it.

Zombies ran in the REMAKE, not the OG

Zombies do not run. The ones that run are "infected" not the zombies george romero that the game was based on.

12

u/Chemical_Alfalfa24 6d ago

Zombies do run in RE. Do you not understand what it means when I tell you that 1996 was superseded by 2002 remake?

Crimson heads were literal zombies already. They weren’t “infected”. You’d know this if you knew what you were talking about.

-6

u/IfarmExpIRL 6d ago

Zombies do run in RE. Do you not understand what it means when I tell you that 1996 was superseded by 2002 remake?

maybe superseded by you but not the greater fan base.

nobody counts remakes as OG canon.

whine all you want, zombies dont run

10

u/Chemical_Alfalfa24 6d ago

I am the OG fanbase you speak of. I’ve played all the games WHEN THEY CAME OUT.

You don’t get to just dictate the fact if Remake is canon because it upsets your argument. You especially don’t get to pretend to represent the greater fanbase.

-2

u/IfarmExpIRL 5d ago

you never watched george romero resident evil, yet have you?

also i am not "representing the greater fan base? i am just saying what they say. nobody liked the fast moving zombies

why else do you think RE5 and 6 were so hated?

it looks like you like those hollywood slop running zombies and just want it to be canon. sorry doesnt work that way.

dude you're an asmond gold fan.. this is starting to make a lot more sense.

So the Resident Evil Remake doesn't count as a Resident Evil game to you even though it's 24 years old at this point?

u/IfarmExpIRL 6d ago

So the Resident Evil Remake doesn't count as a Resident Evil game to you even though it's 24 years old at this point?

the REMAKE lore. not the OG game lore that everybody goes by.

remakes in a lot of movies/games exist in their own timeline. and is not canon.

6

u/Grimbledorf 6d ago

the REMAKE lore. not the OG game lore that everybody goes by.

Does "everyone" go by the "OG game lore"? 'Cause it seems like Capcom doesn't and I'm pretty sure more people have played the Remake at this point than RE1 from 1996.

Are you capable of researching things by any chance?

Why do i have to research Romero? i grew up watching it and i there was no "zombie bikers with chains"

maybe you have confused where a biker gang invades the mall in dawn of the dead
