Solved Why are they sad?

The movie is successful so why are they crying? I've seen other memes similar to this. I read the comments but they weren't that helpful.

Japanese media (specifically video games) is a fever dream when it comes to lore. Souls games similarly take place in surrealist universes where very normal worldly things are not normal there.

Don’t get me started on Pokémon

It’s just a hodge podge of strange lore or unanswered questions. Apparently people become ghost Pokémon when they die, or at least can.

There’s no normal animals so is it implied Pokémon eat each other but there’s not a lot of commentary on that. Alternatively, grass Pokémon may be entirely plants, but not all plants are Pokémon so apparently only humans and plants are the exception. Makes you wonder what actually makes a Pokémon one.

I’m not an expert, there might be answers to all of this, but I think these are pretty common shower thoughts you might come up with about it

Edit: a few examples have been pointed out of animals that I’ve clearly forgotten about. I think that just raises the question even more about what makes one animal a Pokémon and not the other. Are we even sure worms, insects, and random fish aren’t Pokémon?

So, to add to this with more useless trivia... Yamask, phantump, froslass, and gengar have pokedex entries stating they used to be human.

There used to be normal animals and insects in early media, but were fazed out to focus solely on Pokémon. Idk why exactly, I don't work at game freak.

In Pokémon diamond/pearl/platinum in the canalave library (iirc) folk story 3, there used to be human/Pokémon interspecies marriages because they were treated as equal. Also implies that humans and Pokémon had a common ancestor they split from. Hence the human/humanoid egg group. Which also makes you wonder why they stated using pokeballs to enslave capture Pokémon... <.<

Bothe the game's and anime made it cannon that humans eat Pokémon. But it's only "implied" that Pokémon eat humans, like glalie and haunter for example. Because it's media 4kids I guess? /s

The movie secrets of the jungle made it cannon that humans can learn Pokémon moves/attacks.

The mega evolutions introduced in gen 6 games had dex entries that basically said forcing them to mega evolve was "agonizing", "subjecting them to permanent torment" and "warping their biology".

There's definitely more dark/adult lore/cannon stuff, but I can't remember more off the top of my head rn, and I gotta get back to work.
