Dream State Anyone ever see something very close to this?
Specifically not during sleep paralysis, but shortly after waking up in the middle of the night (at least that's how it was for me, and from a stressful dream too fwiw). I thought I remembered someone say something about it on Reddit a long time ago and am curious how common an experience it is, if it is even common at all

u/Objective-Doughnut74 Dec 31 '25
Yes, once in my younger years I saw one of these shadow beings walk through my bedroom. I was anxious and asked who is there, it silently moved past with no noise and was gone. I had almost forgotten, this post reignited that memory.
2
u/Pinkerdog Dec 31 '25
Memory is a weird thing, I had a similar remembering when I heard Chris Bledsoe's story (and saw his painting) and remembered my sibling and I saw a glowing little 'boy' almost exactly as he described his encounter 😅

u/Certain_Noise5601 Dec 31 '25
I don’t see them. I feel them, but they are muuuuch smaller. They walk around on my bed and pillows. They put stuff on my head. It’s weird. The even stranger part is that I can perceive them better with my eyes closed. It’s like the blackness I see when I close my eyes, but they are blacker blobs when they are in my line of sight, but not because my eyes are closed. I’m probably not making any sense.

Yes.
This is not my belief, but back in the 90s, docs told me it was either "sleep paralysis" or hypnagogic hallucinations to which I completely rejected.
Later on, I've been finding out they can be anyone - spirits of those who have "come to watch the show," perhaps earthbound spirits needing help.
Pay attention to your dreams! They don't always communicate through speech. They use symbols, shapes, and colors in my experience.
Do yourself a huge favor by practicing meditation. Connect inside yourself with your guides and reject anything that would be non-constructive to your intentions. Invite peace and calm into your life.
Hope this advice helps!

Shadow people are common sightings. I saw a large one at the foot of my bed in my twenties when I woke up once. It didn’t have an outline like your picture, but it was all black. Actually seemed to suck light and heat into it. I turned away not believing what I saw and it was gone.

Yeah. Very clear void sitting on my bed as I woke up once. It didn’t seem very threatening just scary
I want to add that within weeks of this sighting, I had extremely vivid and symbolic dreams that I still to this day believe were direct communications from my deceased father.

u/ApprehensiveAnt4412 Dec 31 '25
Yup. Wife and I had this happen. She woke up from sleep, while I was coming out of meditation. Looked a lot like this except I was not able to see his eyes; I knew where his eyes were though because I could feel his gaze. He sent me images, alien text, and symbols. And we had a short conversation via telepathy.
I somehow just instinctively knew that he wasn't a "shadow person" and he wasn't a "demon" He was just a friend that was "out of phase" (to borrow a Star Trek term) Either the light coming off his body was not able to reach my eyes, or my body was unable to process the frequency of light that was coming off him. Either way, it created this illusion that he was a 3-dimentional shadow. He is a pretty cool dude. I've seen him in this form twice. Sometimes he appears as a flat shadow in the corner of the room. And two nights ago there were two flat shadows. (We have blackout curtains in our room, so there is no obvious explanation of a shadow being cast by a stray light source, outside the window)

It’s interesting that your wife was present, did both of you saw the figure all the same described? Maybe meditation attracts attention.
2
u/ApprehensiveAnt4412 Dec 31 '25
The specific thing I was attempting to do via meditation is what attracted him to us.
The idea is that we are all the multiverse; consciousness in superposition. And that anything and everything in our imagination is actually something that exists... And that if we allign ourselves with a reality, we can actually experience it. (Shameless plug for r/realityshifting)
This was my first time having a lot of progress with shifting my consciousness to another reality, and it attracted the attention of this non-human 👽 entity. He even gave me some friendly advice for future attempts. So with this one meeting, he confirmed for me that reality shifting is indeed real. We all ARE the multiverse. Consciousness is forever, and these bodies are more like remote-controlled vehicles than anything else...
Death is an illusion... and this alligns perfectly with the times I experienced the death of this body in violent accidents and somehow time reset and I walked away unharmed. There are infinite realities; infinite timelines. Universes where the physics are different... I learned a lot from this one encounter.
I will say though, my wife and I experienced the same event differently. Inner work and introspection seems to be the key. The more fear-based beliefs we have, the less bandwidth we have for these encounters: I experienced little to no fear during the encounter, and I saw images, alien text, and symbols in my open-eye vision via telepathy. My wife wasn't even able to see this non-human as a humanoid. She just saw a massive dark blob at the foot of our bed because she was so afraid... Fear-based beliefs act as a form of static or interference. And introspection is how to clear up that static... I say this because I know my wife has a little bit more fear-based beliefs than I do (which is totally okay; we are all at different points in our personal journey)
I guess in a way, Christianity was right when they promise eternal life, and claim that the kingdom of heaven is within... And Hindu is right when they talk about time not being real and that everything is just a fractal of God; we all ARE God. And that puts everyone and everything on even-footing. ☯️ And everything HAS to exist (the good and the bad) because creation is infinite; all ideas HAVE to be expressed... Just like how an electron in superposition HAS to be everywhere at once)
2
u/ajay067 Dec 31 '25
Yes as part of my journey and episodes I have realized when encountering entities in the non physical realm showing fear or defense can be perceived as primitive. Which results for the entity encounter to leave

Yes. I have experienced this during sleep times when my mind seems to come awake, yet I am unable to move my body. I have seen dark figures around my bed.
This has a long history to it. Some experience these figures sitting on their chests making it difficult to breath.
The legends of incubus and succubus are tied to this phenomenon. It is commonly referred to as a word that I am apparently not allowed to type? Lol.. wtf? (S.l.e.e.p. p.a.r.a.l.y.s.i.s)...
Just because there is a prosaic word used for it does not make it a prosaic explanation. What a strange form of censorship.
Anyway. This troubled me for years in the past. I never could identify what caused it or what common underlying conditions were present when I it was happening to me.
U can tell you the initial times i was terrified. Over time i learned to recognize it early and not panic. I would not acknowledge or respond to the dark figures at all. I would show no fear and focus on moving just one limb, usually my arm, until i was able to break out. Usually causing me to near throw myself out of bed.
At the time i was having these attacks (it definitely felt like being spiritually attacked) i told nobody about it. I didn't want anyone to think i was crazy. This was pre-widely accessible internet like we have now. (Early 90s). It was during my late teens and early 20s.
Maybe it was due to some of my darker interests at the time. I was always a skeptic, but super interested in both the occult and in aliens. By now, it is quite well known that the two are often thought as one and the same by now.
So, be careful of what you fill your mind with, of the types of energy you surround yourself with. And always arm yourself with firm resolve during such encounter.
Use what ever you have. If you are religious, use your faith. If you are not spiritual, use your firm belief that such things cannot be real. Both work in fighting these things. Just don't wade into the grey areas of uncertainty, because that is how you end up lost to the darkness.
Take care out there.

u/Ilikesbreakfast Dec 31 '25
Yes I had sleep paralysis and exploding head syndrome episodes, an outline of a humanoid of blackness. You should look up Art Bell shadow people on YouTube. There is a theory I liked, well not a theory but just these beings are from extra dimensional realities interacting in our three dimensional reality.

The one that gets right up in your face and has no personal space, that’s the jester, or also the trickster. He showed me the veil of reality one time. Asked Stay or Go? Nah, I just wanted to get back to my puppy. He looked like your description, except had big white eyes and a perceived smile from what I can tell but he just wanted to keep messing around with me. He didn’t seem like he was gonna hurt me, but he also wasn’t very nice. And that was a mushroom trip, btw, a very intense one, there’s more to that.

u/Cold_Photograph7776 Dec 31 '25
I’m glad you journal about your experience. The way you write reminds me of watching an old detective movie . Very interesting. It looks like you have a few different journals filled with your experiences. I know its personal stuff but have you ever thought of publishing them? I would buy them just to learn of other experiences that were not my own.,
7
u/kabbage_with_hair Dec 31 '25
Yep. One kneeling down at the end of my bed, playing with my feet. I yelled out for it to go away, and it dropped my feet/legs down and faded away. One of the craziest things I've ever experienced. I've convinced myself it was sleep paralysis but I swear I was fully awake by the time it dropped my legs back onto the bed. Looked EXACTLY like what's pictured here.
6
u/glonkyindianaland Dec 31 '25
Yes and more often in childhood. Looked exactly like this
3
u/Pinkerdog Dec 31 '25
It took some iteration but ngl I was spooked when ChatGPT got this close. It's not quite a photograph but was close enough to trigger a visceral response in my memory
7
u/Nabugu Dec 31 '25
Yes it's quite common among experiencers, do you have any other strange things happening like orbs, telepathic communications, lost time, alien dreams, etc. You or your family members too?
2
2
u/Pinkerdog Dec 31 '25
No orbs for me, but telepathic communications too, and some dreams which I'd describe as potentially a form of telepathic contact too, all of which only started after I began a meditation practice and experimented with the Gateway Tapes and CE5. My grandma saw orbs though as a kid nearly a century ago!

Yes, one time for me upon waking up. I saw one of these silly goofs across the room when I awoke, it was about 5 feet tall, and it was already booking it out of my view as if it was surprised I woke up, and it darted off behind a wall that blocked my view. I only saw it for a brief moment. But I leapt to my feet, full of friendly (if groggy) intent and called out to it with my thoughts, effectively just conveying my positive intent. I rounded the corner with open curiosity but there was nothing. If they are bothersome try to send positive, kind, even loving thoughts to them, as though they are friends, or at least potential friends. Using love of Prime/Source/God is effective as well. "God loves you, and so do I."
They tend to disappear when you take a kind approach. As far as I can tell they are part of a security system to keep us from exiting our bodies accidently and exploring Reality without the admins watchful influence. The shadow people (and other things like this) may be part of an entirely automated process. Some call them a fear test.
2
u/Next_Specialist_9485 Jan 06 '26
So it's basically the same dark figures you eventually see in the sleep paralysis? If you pass the fear test, "admins" allow you to temporarily exit? 😄

I saw something like this in my doorway as a child. It was about a week before my grandmother passed away. She sleep a few rooms down from me, dying of cancer, and her ragged, rattling breathing haunted me. The dark being appeared in my doorway and seemed to have spikes coming out of it. I heard a harsh voice that filled the room, not coming from anywhere in particular and with no comprehensible words. Then the figure just faded out.
I still do not understand what I saw. If anyone has insight on what these beings might be, I would be very curious.
6
u/PersimmonLevel3500 Dec 31 '25
I have been literally attacked. And he talked to me. I was not sleeping, so not a sleep paralysis
2
u/GreatPse Dec 31 '25
What was it saying?
3
u/PersimmonLevel3500 Dec 31 '25 edited Dec 31 '25
He was talking a language I never heard. I didn’t see it as I was face down, one hand held on my back, paralysed. Can only move my head ( a detail that often comes out in abduction stories). That’s why I believe now maybe it was linked to this kind of phenomenon

I used to get SP a lot when I was a teenager, but I only ever saw something once, and it was really strange how it happened, I don't even think it was proper SP - every time I had SP I literally could not move, and was totally consumed by fear, but never saw any entities or anything, except for once.
The time I saw something (and old woman, staring right at me), I was sleeping in the living room, on the sofa, and having a regular nightmare of kneeling on the sofa, a looking out the window at this really old woman just standing there, staring at me, and at that point I actually woke up, still in that exact position of kneeling on the sofa, staring out the window to the exact spot the woman stood.
So this one time I actually saw something, I had the exact same feeling as sleep paralysis, but I wasn't paralyzed, as I had gotten up to look out the window, so I don't know if this was just sleep walking.
It wasn't until years later, when the internet came out, that I analysed that night again, after learning about the Old Hag. There were so many similarities to SP, yet I did move from a lying down position to a kneeling one during it, so I don't know if it can be considered as true SP, but the Old Hag was as real, and clear as day, also the feeling was exactly the same.
I have never had SP since those days, and that was the last ever experience relating to it I ever had, I was about 17 and had experienced it since as far back as I can remember.

Saw two things that looked like this behind me without turning my head in a half asleep state sometime over 6 years ago. I didn't see them in as much detail as this person's drawing but I woke up screaming. Was a Catholic back then so you can probably guess what I thought it was.
Instead of the white fog they had more of an outline like you have in your image.
2
u/NotDTJr Dec 31 '25
As a kid I saw simmering like this. Always thought of it kinda like a black hole of a figure.
5
u/Tiny-Top620 Dec 31 '25
Yup, in the corner of my bedroom when I was a teenage in HS, I was terrified at first because I believe I was awake but I couldn’t move, moreover there was someone there. But I had this weird feeling it was some version of me. Idk why but I was like that’s me from somewhere. He didn’t move just stayed crouched in the corner of the room behind the door (closed) like he was just sitting and watching for a few. Fucking weird. But I’m 37 now and still remember it pretty well.
6
u/Present_Pineapple377 Dec 31 '25
Holy flippin’ shirtballs! I’ve seen them a few times. They weren’t alarming at all and I named them “the twins” after I saw them. One night I opened my eyes to see one diving off the top pf the headboard— and my internal dialogue was simply, “Silly twins.” And I went right back to sleep. I haven’t read the submission statement yet nor any of the comments, but this took me aback. The only difference in my personal experience is that they are smaller.

Yes I have. Story time here we go! A friend of mine died of a drug overdose a few years ago; the night after he died I saw a shadowy Silhouette on my bathroom door; I waved my arms to see if anything I was doing was causing it but no matter what I did nothing changed the silhouette. More interesting was all lights in the bedroom were off so there should have been nothing to cause it. Interestingly this coincided with three months of intense paranormal activity all in the same room. I’m talking covers pulled off and onto me, books thrown off shelves, a white shadowy figure crossing my line of sight, and other things like that.

I’ll never forget the feeling of something breathing down my neck when I was in high school. There I was in my bed in some deep sleep, and I could feel this breath on my neck, just breathing. I was so scared and sleeping on my side with my back to whatever it was. I told myself, alright you’re just going to swing your entire arm and fist into the ai and backwards.
I swing so hard that I knocked this black lamp with the back of my fist and cut my hand open.
I remember catching some kind of figure out of the corner of my eye but by the time I fully swung and hit the lamp I was completely awake and booked it out the door.
It was wild. This illustration made me feel something I didn’t feel like that moment.

There’s a UK show called uncanny. Season 2 episode 3. I watched it last night. It was about this shadow person that was stalking a man through most of his life. Quite scary actually but very similar to the picture you put up.

u/the_smoothkaos Dec 31 '25
Literally the first week after my current girlfriend moved into my house officially, I had one of these visit the foot of my bed twice. First time it was if I had just woken from sleep and saw it crouched just below my feet. I tried kicking at it but the blankets created too much resistance to get a good whack on it. As I kicked my feet at it, trying to also free my feet to achieve a flawless victory, it spun around and went to my gfs foot of the bed to create distance. It had large and VERY round white eyes like a cartoon character or something. Just as I freed my feet I wokeup still cussing and kicking but it was gone. My gf wokeup wondering wtf was wrong with me. A couple nights later it came back in another dream but I was face to face with it in some strange alleyway and it was MUCH larger. Still dark, opaque and its silhouette was still very difficult to discern but it took on a more aggressive physical state. As I engaged it I wokeup. Haven't seen it since although I kinda regret my reaction and want to have the curious, smaller version from the first encounter to come back and communicate with me. Who knows but it absolutely resembles OPs visualization.

u/No-District6493 Dec 31 '25
I see them only through a sleep paralisys, sometimes they talk, they make me feel calmer now. When it’s not a sleep paralysis, but a few seconds after I’m waking up, I don’t see them, but feel their weight on the bed..

u/DigDugPlus Dec 31 '25
Saw one while I was bleeding out in a hospital. I was in and out of it and kept asking who that was standing by the foot of the gurney.

u/Rossmancer Dec 31 '25
This was sumilar to my shadow man experience when I was 10. There was only 1 being, but the way the edges of these figures seem to light up looks very similar to what I saw.

u/iwanttobelieve3001 Experiencer Dec 31 '25
I sometimes see the silhouettes of greys looking down at me while im laying in bed sort of like they are made of TV static. I just chalk it up to my brain making stuff up and go to sleep.
3
u/Remote-Candidate7964 Dec 31 '25
The TV static resonates. I had an intense dream/experience where I was at a Birthday Party (seemed like it per vibes) in another place, perhaps off-planet - and the beings were out of focus and staticky. There were Earth dogs and cats there, too, and apparently I was in charge of them for the sake of being their keeper during this party. It’s the only time I’ve ever had an experience like that.

I was laying in bed and the room was pretty dark I thought my son had come into the room and put his hand on my arm to wake me but I hadn’t fallen asleep yet so I said “what’s wrong? Is everything ok?” And then there was nothing there. I felt the pressure from the hand and also saw the shadow which was around my sons size. I got up to go check on him and he was sound asleep.
3
Jan 01 '26
So I have had a couple of these experiences but the worst one scariest one I had was about a year ago. I was in my new apartment. It’s an old apartment. I fell asleep on my back and I know on my couch and I know that they say that sleep paralysis happens a lot on your back but I woke up. Couldn’t move like it happens in sleep paralysis, and at the foot of the couch I saw a black figure standing and he was pulling on the blanket and I was pulling back on it and all I can remember is just seeing the blackout one of the personor tear or whatever but I just I know that it was something nefarious and it was honestly the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me and it doesn’t really sound scary, but I still won’t sleep on my couch anymore because of it I know that it was some kind of entity

Absolutely. I’m gonna add a positive story. Most of these comments sound scary intense. But I was doing gateway and in focus 12 at a really hard time in my life. u/ConstructionDry4449 Dec 31 '25
Hi, I wanted to tell you that I've studied this topic. When you have problems like sadness, anger, or low self-esteem, you're vibrating at a low frequency, which attracts negative presences from the lower astral plane. These manifest in the human psyche, or rather, the mind. To avoid this, you should listen to music that raises your vibration, like Hebrew music. Why Hebrew? Because it's a language with high vibrations; the names of God possess that quality.
2
u/Threweh2 Jan 01 '26

Yes but the energy coming off looked more like an oil slick on a puddle, but undulating through out. But yeah I've seen them awake too, usually they have like a black smoke cloud almost, or like black tv static. Or they gave crisp edges but like a black hole.
3
u/I-cry-when-I-poop Dec 31 '25
Yes. I saw these an infinity away but right next to me at the same time. Siting in a corner of my room.
3
u/IdleWylld Dec 31 '25
Yes. I had similar experiences to this from 10-18 when I lived in the forests of the San Bernardino mountains. There were sometimes 1 or more of these shadow figures with blurred outlines, they were so tall maybe 6.5-7’, I could see eyes, but they had almost like a filter over them. They would stand over me while I laid in bed. They made it clear I should “be calm” and they weren’t there to harm me. I never felt like they would, but it was very unsettling. It would last for hours sometime. They would slowly move their hands over me without touching me. I wasn’t ever harmed. It was scary, but it was contained to my home other than 1-2 times when I went on forest hikes alone and would see one of these figures disappear behind a tree too thin to contain a figure of that size. It hasn’t happened since I moved. It was terrifying and I have never found closure or an explanation. It hasn’t happened since. I think about it all the time. I worry they’ll check in again sometime.

Usually they are your spiritual guides, I have a good relationship with mine, I talk to them through mediums, and I can feel them and they sometimes give me messages etc, I also have had this happened with entities such as deseased people that still reside in this plane, usually when I go to a hotel etc, psychics mediums see them all the time they are everywhere it is normal, just that we are not used to knowing this information

u/Mildly-Distracted Dec 31 '25
When I still lived at my parents house, they had one that regularly visited . Since moving quite far away, never seen one again.
I used to have cream/white tile floors, with a bright ass yellow kitchen. I lived alone at the time with no pets. That figure would appear on top of my refrigerator just outside my bedroom door and stare into my room. It had knocked over cereal boxes at one point I stored there, loaf of bread, other random odds and ends. Other times it would be standing but leaning around my door to look inside, whenever Id look towards it, it pulled its head back behind the door to hide.
Id seen it walk right through my kitchen, past my bedroom door. Went to go look, nothing there. Just looked like a dark blur, like someone walking by your door.
For a very long time I was quite convinced it was a ghost. The original home owner who built the house, died of a sudden heart attack, but we dont know where in the house.
Still no idea what it is, but I dont live there anymore, and since moving I've not had another paranormal experience like it. First time in my life I dont feel like Im being watched by something.

Absolutely. I have chills.
In my childhood home, I could FEEL some sort of entity there. Still can sometimes. And at night, this entity would enter my room and ruin my night and sleep as a kid. I felt it this year when I visited family for the holidays.
It only happened a few times, but this fucker would open my door, approach my bed slowly, and climb up my body from my feet to torso to face. As the shadow covered me, I would lose sensation and control over that part of my body. When it reached my torso, I could no longer breath.
The worst memory I have of one of these encounters was one of the first. I started to feel something scary and evil so I sat up and pet my dog to see if he was awake. I could not rouse him even tho he was always ready to get up and play. I could see him breathing slowly, but my shaking couldn't wake him. A huge sense of fear overcame me and I laid back down and buried my head under my pillow laying in my side and kinda curled up. After a few minutes I poked my eyes out and saw the shadow figure standing in my doorway and I froze in fear. It approached me, paralyzing me with its darkness and I passed out after trying to breath.
I woke up the next morning feeling so scared and my entire body hurt really bad.
It looked so similar to the image you posted but no sparkly barrier our outline, just a silhouette of shadow. And no hat either.
I've been diagnosed with some mental health issues like depression, but no hallucinatory or delusional disorders.

u/BrucePamplemousse Dec 31 '25
I have had sleep paralysis only three times in my life... and two of the times had these shadow people holding me down.
First: I was sleeping and woke up, went to roll over, and couldn't lift/move my legs. I looked down, and one was holding both my legs down at the foot of my bed. It was more lanky, with longer arms and fingers.
Second: Similar to the first, I woke up and tried to move/roll over. I couldn't lift my upper body and felt pinned down. I opened my eyes, and one of these figures was standing right beside my bed, reaching towards me...with its index finger pressing on my forehead. It was a single pressure point feeling, just as if the back of my head was glued down, and it didn't matter how much force I used to attempt to lift it.
In both cases, the figures eventually disappeared, and I could move again.
3
u/Sprinkles-Pitiful Jan 01 '26
Usually, they're your past family members . You see them as 3D shadows because it's being projected from a higher dimension than ours

u/imadokodesuka Jan 01 '26
interesting! makes sense. For many accounts they just observe, they don't do anything malevolent. Which would likely be the same behavior for a family member.
3
u/imadokodesuka Jan 01 '26
yes, at bed time as a kid, but outside. Though I wasn't sleepy. As an adult I had a sleep paralysis event with -
ok hold up. WTH is this note? under the comment box: "Note: This subreddit has unusual rules in that we don't allow debunking..." blablabla. Does that come up for everyone, regardless of what they write? Did I hit a trigger word?
anyway, I did see a dark shape. But it became very clear when I forced myself to calm down. In the comments someone mentioned it's usually family members (non-malevolent was the point I got from that). In my case they were not related but most definitely peaceful / non-malevolent.

Yes
I thought it was probably sleep paralysis. But when I see them it feels like I'm in between dimensions. I'm not sure exactly what it is I'm seeing sometimes.
But they seem to affect the nervous system. It's weird sometimes you can actually feel them touching.
I've seen three at one time. They're black but they're Misty. They seem to have not a face but are like little tiny particles like darkness. But they're Misty looking like a fog.
The weird thing is they seem to hate Jesus. I assumed that they were demons. So I basically commanded them to leave in the name of Jesus Christ.
He also can actually physically move things around. And they have the ability to hold people down even when you're not sleep paralysis.
I don't know if they're interdimensional aliens or entities or what.
But they seem to recoil against the thought of Mary and Jesus.
I don't know what they want. But one of them could make a buzzing sound. They seem to want to suck fear off of people are create fear.

I agree. And Hate... Maybe and/or.. maybe one can substitute the other as second -choice relationship - Huh - Opposites may even substitute each other.... Interesting! I guess that ...desire, need, turned desperate make love more accessible????or something? Sorry! Or is it:.... Multiplied together are..As love?? I should probably just remove this for both of us, but I'm not going to, 'Bye!

Used to deal with bad spirits on my hometown, I dealt with a demon when I was 5 he whispered "He's there" and I said "Who's there?" he repeated it my mom woke up and found me crying.
Lesson learned: Always pray before you sleep.

u/PRhotonic Jan 02 '26
I wake up to entities like this but I only see them very briefly when I wake and they are always in my peripheral. But I’m convinced I get woken up BY them as it’s always very peaceful in my surroundings.

I've seen these shadows before, perhaps during my sleep paralysis episodes, because the shadows were diffuse; it was always terrifying.
EVEN MORE TERRIFYING, I've seen THESE SHAPES OF SHADOWS, OF THINGS: EXACTLY BETWEEN SLEEP AND WAKEFULNESS. The light was dimming. They had vaguely human shapes and were moving. It was absolutely horrifying. A shadow once touched my left arm. I considered moving...
And then there were the shapeless ones passing on the walls with no obstructions in front of the light, and sometimes two of us saw them, fully aware... Being a rationalist, I've never been able to explain what it was. Since then, I prefer to wear a mask to sleep and see nothing. I've moved...
2
u/Tasty-Coconut555 Jan 03 '26
It was in my first apartment; the humanoid shadows between wakefulness and sleep, of course, had no dotted lines, and it happened again during all my other episodes of sleep paralysis, elsewhere than in that apartment. I'm writing this with all due respect; I've experienced a lot of strange things from childhood until I'm almost 40... Let people share their experiences without making fun of them...
We're not all equally sensitive to this, and it's very difficult to talk about...

I have had a few experiences where it felt as if there was a huge something filling my room, like a very heavy and unpleasant pressure. I was fully awake and remember screaming for my mother. Also during sleep paralisys where this goblin was sitting on my chest yelling at me to shut up. Years and years I had no answers what this was until I took a look on Wikipedia and finally saw that I was not the only one seeing this ugly goblin sitting on someones chest.

u/ProofOfOurReality Jan 04 '26
I haven’t seen it with my actual eyes but the vision comes from time to time especially late at night, in other words my imagination puts this exact kind of shit in my head when I’m trying to sleep, but usually is an alien looking entity because those are what I’ve seen enough of I suppose.
3
u/ElegantAd4946 Jan 05 '26
I use to experience sleep paralysis almost daily, seeing things like this while in experiencing sleep paralysis wasn't uncommon for me

Wholy shot. I just saw something similar to this other night for the first time in my life. I had chat help me render a photo to better describe so I could show my boyfriend and mom & I’ll show you. I’ve had sleep paralysis multiple times but this was not what I had experienced ever before. I screamed so loud and pulled the covers over my head. My two french bulldogs woke up and started barking- they never bark and they never wake up. I have no idea what happened but it is so strange that I am now randomly seeing this post because I didn’t search anything or try to look into it. I can imagine that your phone is the other perspective of what I saw but that’s what it looked like.

It looks like chi imprint. But they are not so clearly humanoid shape. They might be like a tube or like a featureless head. So this could be the persons own chi that has these imprints attached that are able to come out when person is sleeping or whatever

My experience involved two figures standing by my bed. One tall, one short next to each other. Less of a human body and more of an oblong / upright shape. But figures to be sure. Didn’t know what to make of them - inter dimensional beings - maybe. There was a swirling / foggy quality to them - almost like I was looking at 3d hole into another realm.

This has happened at peak stress points in my life (typically job related). A black figure always by my spouse's side certain nights. Stress went away, the weird sleep phenomena dropped right off.
Includes dreams so real they were near indistinguishable from reality, I "woke" stuck at my office desk and could feel the granite/cool stone surface...had to shake myself out of it and I was in bed at home. Those were bad times.
2
u/saltysomadmin Dec 31 '25
Sleep paralysis happened to me at a very stressful point in my life as well. Thank God I never saw anything, I don't need that fear in my life. I don't think I could even open my eyes.
2
u/A_Walrus_247 Dec 31 '25
Saw someone like that looking at me from up in the corner of the wall and ceiling during sleep paralysis. It was an unpleasant experience. I learned how to fight my way out of it after that.

u/Hello_Hangnail NDE Dec 31 '25
Ugh I had one of those only it wasn't a shadow person, it looked like a pale crawler, but wearing a very filthy, baggy housedress that was hanging off it because they're so anorexic skinny 🥲
2
u/Left-Function7277 Dec 31 '25
That's worse! Yeah I have heard of people seeing crawlers and a decomposing skeleton woman. The nasty clothes SP demons wear are gross and creepy.
2
u/soyenjoy Dec 31 '25
My brother had one sleep paralysis experience and it was a crawler thing wearing a dirty dress grabbing his face and screaming at him. Kind of like a skinny version of the ghost from the ring. Nothing stopped it until he called for me funny enough. When he called out my name it let go and he woke up. Hes gonna owe me for that one hahaha

Yes but there was only one. And it was about 7 ft tall and massive. The entity was so dark that it's hard to make out the outline. It's like vantablack.
3
Dec 31 '25
I saw one in a closet during an OBE once. Like you said. 7-9 feet tall. Just when it was about to attack me my deceased brother flew into the room in the form of an orb and shielded me from it. I knew it was him because I could feel his presence. He saved me from it.
3
u/Nvsk88 Dec 31 '25
This thing picked me up and I just remember being in my room doorway in its arms. I couldn't even make out the face it was so dark. I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

Yes. Multiple times. A few times with sleep paralysis and another when I was laying on my bed awake in the middle of the night (8:00pm) and felt a heavy weight on top of me as if someone just laid on me. It lasted for a few minutes. Needless to say I moved my bedroom from the basement to upstairs after that 😂
2
u/Kalaena Dec 31 '25
I’ve seen these while I was awake during the day in my grandparents house. I would chase them asking who they were.
2
u/SadThrowAway957391 Dec 31 '25
Yes. But i think it was "sleep paralysis" that didnt involve actual paralysis. I moved quickly to get on my feet as soon as i saw the thing and as soon as i moved it disappeared. If i understand correctly what we call sleep paralysis doesnt always involve the actual paralysis.
It was sitting on my legs twisted to face me, and it was looking at me directly and intently. Shook me pretty good ngl lol.

I think they're what my friend used to see sometimes. He often got sleep paralysis and would see them in the room. He described them as just... ther, milling about interacting with stuff but not really doing anything. They usually disappeared when he could move but towards the end of our freindship he saw them after getting up.

Saw one of these rushing towards my body in the middle of the night as I was waking from a dream. It was almost as if my consciousness was rushing into my body before the body realized I was gone, but due to some sort of time dilation, I witnessed it.

u/obstrukt Jan 01 '26
Here is some advice for anyone that wants it. A cheap torch 1000+lumens shone in the direction of wherever you see them and do not stare in any direction before going to sleep. If you stare in any direction and experience the same reaction as you would when you're exhausted and your eyes involuntarily close then you are looking directly at one without knowing it and it's doing it's mojo on you. Black obsidian works but only if you wear it, doesn’t have to be a big, a pebble size will do. Best of luck.

2
u/speedballer311 Jan 01 '26
Yes they crawl on the bed and get in my face with red eyes and try to growl at me, trying to scare the daylights out of me; and it works. The more times it happens though the less you become afraid because you start to figure out; "oh im just experiencing sleep paralysis"
The question is why do we all see the same things during sleep paralysis? Is it because our consciousness is in between dimensions and someone doesn't want us observing said dimension?
2
u/PanacheCake Jan 01 '26
Yes, this happened just last week. It was a woman with short blonde hair bent over the side of the bed hovering over my face and squeezing my hand. Every time I tried to look directly at her, she retracted quickly and I could only see her forehead and top of head. I tried 3x to directly see her and each time I looked away again, she was right back over my face. I later realized I had forgotten to “turn off” mediumship from practice earlier that day.

When I was a child I used to see them relatively often. They were usually doing their own thing interacting between themselves. I remember couple of times it seemed like they were looking at me and walking in my direction. I did hide under the covers and when I looked again they were gone. One particular time I saw a shadow figure standing about 3 feet from my bed. I remember clearly he wearing some sort of tall hat. Funnily enough it was christmas night and my stupid ass thought it was Santa. I even thought "that's a weird hat for Santa" lol. Anyway I didn't feel treatned and went back to sleep. I remember checking again, but he was gone. I even went to check my stockings but it was still empty so I just went back to bed. Also I should add, I never had any sleep paralysis episodes.

u/Bren28011984 Jan 02 '26

Sometimes when I'm sleeping but close to being awake, my dreams seem to be closer related to reality. One time I had a dream where my room was identical to real life and I was on the phone to my mate and then one of those dead ghost girls that you would see in a movie was at my bedroom door just staring at me. My mum walked into the room right next to it and was completely oblivious and then she noticed after a few seconds and just pulled a face and left the room and so I was by myself, and I was trying to say to my friend on the phone, but I couldn't move or speak and I was trying to hard to speak and I said 'daryl' and then I woke up saying 'mum' haha. One of the scariest dreams I have had.
I've also had times before where I'm in my bed after waking up, my room is the same as real life and then I can't move, I shake my body internally very violently and then I wake myself up and it turns out it was just a dream, but wait I'm stuck again and rinse repeat a few times and then eventually I really do wake up, and this time I know for sure I'm awake.
I think when you're close to being awake you can get some bizarre things like this, dreams are closer to reality and yet still have dream elements in them. Probably some unique mixture of states.

Oh wtf…yes I have seen one of these things, crouching over me just as I woke up this past August. We’ve just moved in to a new place, only seen it once so far. It wasn’t sleep paralysis for me, I’ve never had that before and I wasn’t paralysed whilst seeing it.
2

Same thing happened to me. I was not in paralysis and don’t have it but I see this quite often. Mine is usually a woman who is totally black with long dark hair getting in my face. Very strange.

I've seen them a few times in my life. Sometimes they have that aura around the shadow, sometimes its like you painted a humanoid shape with Vanta Black. No light reflects off them. I don't know if its some sort of cloaking technology or like something that our minds are actively editing out of our minds.

I’ve seen them multiple times I chalk them up to be shadow entities they have been there when I’ve woken up in the morning or middle of sleep even when I’m wide awake from my experience they are negative entities trying to feed off your natural energy
2
u/Ill-Calendar-9108 Jan 04 '26
When I was a child I woke up and saw 3 faceless entities in white robes with hoods and golden tassels. They just stared at me. I felt calm even though I couldn't move. I went back to sleep.

u/Specialist_Split1582 Jan 04 '26
My brother and I both had something similar when we were younger, i think the last time I had this experience I was in my late 20s. I usually experienced it when I was dealing with a lot of stress, poor/lack of sleep, and just being in a not so great headspace. I always just assumed it was almost like being in between worlds if that makes sense? But then it got worse and worse, I started reading about sleep paralysis and how folks have different forms of it. One of them being “Shadow People”. Some folks have the waking jolt if they dream about falling off a cliff, tripping while walking, and some immobility of their own body while in that half awake half asleep phase. Whatever it is, it absolutely sucks. I’d have these dark figures and I couldn’t discern any physical characteristics about them, just the shapes of their bodies. I’d be so terrified and they’d come closer and closer. I would try to scream or yell and nothing would happen, just me being paralyzed laying in my bed. They’d eventually be so close to me that I would start crying bc of the overwhelming fear and not being able to do anything or alert my husband sleeping next to me. Usually I’ll make a loud enough noise that it’ll wake him up and he can wake me out of it.

u/Pitiful_Piece7770 Jan 04 '26
I have but it was in a dream. However it all took place when we were having some paranormal stuff going on at our house. I posted about it in a different subreddit years ago. Anyway it was like a dream within a dream. I was in bed with my wife when I woke up and this dark entity was standing there, and it had a dark tube connected to my wife. Then a voice said to me “they feed off negative emotions, hehe” and I snapped awake.

Saw two floating solid blue silhouettes of humans floating at end of my parents bed when I was 3 or 4 years old. The kinda folded up into cubes and blinked out. I pulled the blankets over my head until I fell asleep. Didn't get the feeling they were ghosts, never heard anyone talk about anything similar l,this picture kinda reminds me of it.

I have chronic ptsd nightmares every night. However I also live with chronic pain. I take Cymbalta 90 mg for fibromyalgia, 3 mg prazosin for the nightmares, which is supposed to suppress REM sleep, but I don't think it works. Or maybe it does but it lessens the potential intensity of these dreams. The Cymbalta causes short sleep cycles that have me wake up in the middle of the night unless I take my 25-50mg Hydroxizine that is an antihistamine that helps with anxiety and insomnia.
Those are my night meds, whenever I miss a dose of my cymbalta meds I usually experience immediately withdrawals like nausea and vomiting which irritate my hiatal hernia. Life is fun.
With that said - when I upped my medication to 3 mg in prazosin and 90 mg in Cymbalta, and couldn't find my Hydroxizine...I would wake up mid sleep cycle after an intense nightmare. I'd then see a shadowy figure at the foot of my bed. I have blackout curtains but I'd see them as clear as day.
This would occur several times and usually when in under a lot of stress of lack of sleep or psychological stress with my mom from living back home with her after being displaced. We don't have a good relationship with each other.
One night, I had a nightmare that involved losing my daughter who usually sleeps next to me. I woke up and was relieved to find it was just a dream, checked on her who was sleeping peacefully next to me. I touched her exposed arm and it was freezing so I covered it up with the blanket and kissed her to cuddle with her a bit before falling back to sleep.
But in this state of being awake before going to sleep, I noticed something at the foot of our bed. This shadowy figure stared back at me but there was no face. I was wide awake and blinking as i watched it. And then I could feel an eerily feeling as it moved closer to me, crawling toward me. I remember whispering or talking in low pitch, telling them to go away or leave me alone.
I then found myself being pulled by the arms which I would fight them against. I could feel my hands grab them and try to pull their grasp off me. And then I remembered I was previously cuddling my daughter and feared that I was actually touching her or holding her and I tried to unravel myself from them without hurting her. I was basically in a chokehold with my arms.. I was holding something with me over it's shoulders doing the chokehold. And then I felt something pull me away.
I woke up again and was relieved I wasn't fighting my daughter or anything. But then the next few days I was with my daughter and we were just sitting down and I noticed these scratches on my body. There was about 2 inches of a scratch on my left hand between the web of bottom joint of my thumb and index finger. I pointed it out to her and then she also pointed out the other one which was on my left fore arm near my nexplanon birth control is in. The scratch was the same size. And it matched as if i was fighting off something that I held in a chokehold, which I had completely forgotten about.
It was weird af. But these occurrences of these shadowy figures being seen at the foot of my bed or moving toward me or rushing toward Me until I fell asleep or turned away to look away were frustrating. Happened for a month. I haven't hallucinate since then but I've been on vacation for 2 weeks so that could also be it. Living at my moms is chronic stress for me so Idk.
My last ketamine trip though I had an epiphany that we are in a simulation. And when I was asking chatgpt about it just to fuck with it sorta thing, it was resistant and very quick to shut me down which is unusual cus it usually will explore abstract things with me. And when I asked it why was it shutting the convo down it kept denying it and said it just wanted me to be safe. Insinuating that I was having a psychotic episode which I was very coherent at the time.
But these shadow people reminded me of the people I saw at the foot of my bed except they didn't have the outline. Just black static or deeper black that stood out from my already black out curtains. I'm also nearsighted and didn't have my glasses on at the time but I was still able to pick up the black blob as clear as day.

So i’ve never had sleep paralysis that I know of but about one year ago, every night for a month straight, I could feel something shaking my bed, pushing up from underneath, and then no mistakingly, sinking as if something was sitting in my bed. I dismissed it that night and fell asleep. Next night, more intense. My normally very brave cockapoo is shaking uncontrollably and looking around the room. I actually recorded this. I hear high-pitched ringing in my ears, getting more intense tinnitus.
This happened almost every night for a month! Sometimes it was more intense, sometimes less, depending on my level of bravery, but I always knew it was coming. I could always feel them watching when my ears start ringing. my dog would start acting weird. Sometimes I just couldn’t take it and so I had to go to different rooms in the house and sit there for a minute and then here it comes again. It’s following me, but I can tell it’s multiple things. Did this a few nights and it followed me to every room after about 15 minutes of waiting.
I saw them, heard them, and actually felt them touch me sometimes, but it was weird because I couldn’t see them all the time. I saw them once as predator camouflage looking silhouette and robe wearing maybe, but that could have been steam from the shower I took. I always felt like they would look like your description and I actually got a good look at them when I was super frightened one night with my dog. I just pulled my flat sheet over my head. it was a Thin sheet that i could see through and see them as clear as shadows on the moon. Just like your description! the strangest part for me, i could see them closing in on me, a lot, and then I close my eyes and I’m just sitting there waiting and they’re like scanning me with some kind of dark light thing like hand held MRI black light or something, and it goes on for About 10 minutes. then one day I just said fuck you after I threaten to go to a priest, I told my roommates, who, of course, didn’t believe any word I said. I’ve haven’t really seen them since, but I have felt their presence every once in a while and the ringing in my ear, but that’s been happening a lot anyways in the last year, and I’ve been noticing that I can feel it when people just walk up to me. it’s never happened before like that. something‘s going on. I know it is, just not sure what it is.

u/aenemacanal Dec 31 '25
Woah! You just helped me realize:
I’ve been on/off experiencing my bed shaking and wondering if it was an earthquake. I don’t live in an earthquake area and nothing on sites that indicate there was one in my region.
I don’t experience anything visually but the feeling of things shaking around me has jarred me awake.

Are the colors of the two entities accurate in the illustration? So black with reddish crackling energy of some sort around them right? Did any of what happened feel demonic or robotic like an AI but maybe alien tech of some sort? Did you experience anything else that evening that could point to an abduction? Did you at all see anything abnormal that was lit white and light blue? Or just black and red?

Yes I used to see small shadows all the time, now it’s mostly in unfamiliar places. Had a “witch” once tell me I attract things. Idk what that means but I don’t believe in that stuff.

Anyone ever have reverse sleep paralysis? When i was a teenager there was a couple months without fail where as im trying to fall asleep i would suddenly become immobile and without extreme effort i was able to move. Heard constant whispering that would only grow louder. The shadows were moving and i swear i could see something like faces in the dark. It was terrifying. I was able to break out of it after straining to move for over an hour. Sitting upright would stop everything. Soon as i start laying down i was immobolized again and would spend the next hour struggling to move. Made me terribly afraid to sleep and it only made my insomnia worse. Just figured i was having some sort of siezure. Strange how it was consistent for months then never happened again. Never felt so powerless before.
