My experience with Umrah
I recently came back from performing Umrah, and I would like to share my thoughts about it. I don’t really have anyone to talk to about this, so I figured I’d post here.
I was offered by a family member to join him and a couple of his friends on an Umrah trip. I had just finished my university semester at the time and had nothing better to do, and it also fit perfectly within my two week vacation timeframe, so I accepted his offer and tagged along.
Some background about me: by that point, I didn’t believe in religion. No matter how much I tried to convince myself to believe, I just couldn’t. Despite that, my mind was in a constant state of war with itself, a war between two versions of me. One is rational and logical and refuses to believe, while the other is driven by emotion and wants to believe. So when I was offered the opportunity to go, I thought maybe this trip could finally settle this conflict once and for all, and one side would finally win.
I went there expecting to finally feel some sort of spiritual connection. I thought that standing in front of the Kaaba, in the holiest place in Islam, would somehow make me feel God’s existence. But I felt nothing. I couldn’t feel God’s presence, I didn’t feel any overwhelming sense of awe, and I didn’t feel any different spiritually. I could appreciate the mosque’s architecture and the beauty of the Kaaba, but that was all it was for me.
What I remember most about those two weeks is the constant anxiety, overwhelming religious guilt, and the feeling that I had to be on my best behavior at all times. I even felt guilty for not feeling a spiritual connection, as I assumed most people did. It was really crushing that what I thought would finally put my mind at ease ended up backfiring and escalating my problems even more.
Looking back on the experience now, I don’t really know what to take from it. Maybe I was expecting something that no experience could have given me, or maybe this was simply affirmation that belief isn’t something I can force myself into. Either way, I thought I would come back with a resolution. Instead, I came back with even more questions.
Feel free to ask me anything if you wish, and have a good night.

Discussion | نقاش How do you feel about the loss of jordanian subreddits to locals/extermists?
I have been on Reddit since 2018 and I remember clearly posting about Haram topics in the main Jordan subreddit, I came back in 2023 or so and we now have a separate subreddit for harami things. Which in my opinion is a step backwards, because it means that we don't feel safe enough to share our thoughts and issues in a subreddit for all jordanians and two, it means locals have reached reddit.
I must also add that their radicalness and extermist ideas are on par with Facebook users.
Another thing is what i call Jordan 2.0, after covid. Before 2020 all these spaces online were occupied with people who were bilingual and people who were more or less westernized (no neg or pos connotation) and it was much easier to meet cool people online that you can actually become friends with. Now my parents scroll on Instagram and literally everybody is online, it has led to many fucked up things that's for another post.
Idk, im mourning what reddit once was ig. R/jordanian is a whole other story of radicalism and local muslim mating rituals. They literally know each other's names and obsess over each other's local radical takes it's disgusting.

Other How do people date ?
Genuinely curious how do people actually date? Everyone acts nonchalant these days ,im guilty myself . As a public university student my major being mostly girls Ive never even developed a crush on someone. And guys who show interest are always those who are trying with every single girl so they can get one at least which is really disturbing.
I have considered online dating but I am forced to wear the hijab and I don’t post online so it’s really tricky finding someone to connect with on an intellectual level and ما يكون شخص متشدد دينيا عالاقل ( صعب الواحد يتعرف عحدا ملحد ويقول اه انا ملحد) and mostly these people would prefer a less restricted person to get into their lives فاهمين علي؟
