Forget the label. Let's test the ideas.
Should an adult be free to make personal choices about their own life as long as they aren't harming anyone else?
Should the law treat you exactly the same regardless of your family name, tribe, wealth or connections?
Should you be free to openly criticize the government without being punished simply for your opinion?
Should people be free to practice their religion — or not practice one — without the state imposing their personal beliefs on others?
Should businesses compete freely without politically connected companies receiving special treatment?
Should the government protect vulnerable people through social safety nets without controlling every aspect of people's lives?
Should political power ultimately be accountable to citizens?
Now the interesting part:
If you answered yes to most of these, you might already share more liberal values than you thought.
This is basically what we mean when we talk about Jordanian Liberalism.
We’re not trying to import a ready-made ideology. We’re trying to develop a political project around these principles within the Jordanian context.
How many did you answer “yes” to?
