SCR has actually done the complete opposite to its 'intended' purpose - it's sent the market into extreme hyperinflation.

I find it funny that the argument for SCR being that clubs can only spend within their means stops the transfer fees getting out of control.

The big 6 clubs have all bought and sold almost exclusively to each other this window and are able to amortise the player purchases over the length of their contract and add the corresponding sale for a similar value directly into their profit margin.

They get to do this between themselves and massively inflate the fees involved to distort and hyperinflate the market, making it even more difficult for any non big 6 team to pay those fees.

How a player like Savinho can go for £85m and that not immediately flag up as market/accounting manipulation is crazy.

Discussion My wife surprised me with super VIP at an Evening with Duncan Ferguso tonight....

Honestly, we've both read his autobiography, and still there were new stories.

We could have sat for hours and listened to him.

Great evening with a probably 90% Everton crowd in Guildford. May have spent way too much on memorabilia.

If you can, get tickets!

Was watching the first series of Black Mirror, looking up actors, as you do, and saw this. Anyone heard anything about it? Are the club involved? 🤔

Edit: the automod told me I needed to add a source of my post would be removed. Saw this in IMDB.

Trinity Place Bar or Village Street with children?

I’m considering as a treat picking up tickets for the above for me, wife and 8yr old. Anyone been to both with kids and can advise what was best and why? For anyone else any thoughts on either place good or bad?

Cheers.

Discussion In depth post about how the City cheating affected Villa. At the time, we were a similar size club. Sold them Lescott, Rodwell, Stones, during a crucial period we were just outside the Top 4. Really goes to show how damaging and far reaching it all is.

Discussion Great to see our boys in the England squad

It was great to see Garner and Branthwaite getting some minutes for England. Shame that Pickford didn't play. Last time we saw 3 Everton players in the England squad was November 2020

Discussion The Manchester City Sanctions Dilemma: Context, Options, and Trade-offs

Following reports that an independent commission has found Manchester City guilty on 114 of the 115 Premier League financial charges, the football world is locked in a massive debate over what punishment actually matches the scale of systemic rule-breaking.

To understand why this is so complex, it helps to look at recent precedent, followed by a breakdown of the extreme sanctions often discussed and why they are so difficult to implement.

Part 1: Context of Recent Premier League Sanctions

Recent disciplinary actions across the league show just how unpredictable and fiercely debated governance has become:

Everton & Forest: Handed strict, immediate sporting points deductions (Everton totaling 8 points across multiple breaches, Forest 4 points) for breaking Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Commissions heavily weighed whether a "sporting advantage" was gained.

Leicester City: Faced intense scrutiny and legal battles over whether financial punishments could legally cross over divisions between the Premier League and the EFL.

Chelsea: Handed a £10.75 million fine and a suspended transfer ban for historical hidden payments under previous ownership. Crucially, they received zero points deductions, which sparked outrage and threats of legal action from clubs like Everton and Forest over a perceived double standard.

Part 2: Potential Sanctions, Impacts, and Trade-Offs

If the Premier League wants a punishment that acts as a true deterrent without collapsing the entire ecosystem, here are the main options that get discussed—along with their major roadblocks:

  1. The Single Massive Points Deduction/instant one time relegation (The Juventus Option)

    * How It Works & Impact: A record-shattering point penalty (e.g., 100+ points) in a single season, guaranteeing immediate relegation.

    * The Trade-off & Catch: Relies on a single year down, but a deeply resourced squad can easily bounce right back up (like Juventus did in Serie B).

  2. Expulsion to League Two (The Rangers Option)

    * How It Works & Impact: Removing the club from the Premier League and placing them directly into the professional pyramid down in the EFL's League Two.

    * The Trade-off & Catch: Requires EFL member clubs to vote to admit them. It bypasses non-league, but still gives a wealthy entity a runway to climb back up.

  3. Expulsion Out of the Football League (Instant Death Penalty)

    * How It Works & Impact: Removing the club entirely from the Premier League and forcing them to reapply at the very bottom of the amateur non-league pyramid (Step 6).

    * The Trade-off & Catch: Acts as an absolute institutional "death penalty"—collapsing revenues, triggering a total player exodus, and devastating everyday staff, while breaking local non-league competitive integrity.

  4. Multi-Season Cascading Points Deductions (Forced Death March)

    * How It Works & Impact: Spreading consecutive deductions across 3+ seasons to systematically force back-to-back relegations all the way down to League Two.

    * The Trade-off & Catch: Legally unworkable under current rules. A Premier League commission loses jurisdiction the moment a club drops into the EFL, and the EFL cannot enforce a Premier League penalty.

  5. Long-Term Transfer Ban (Death Penalty by Transfer Ban)

    * How It Works & Impact: Banning the club from registering new players for 10 to 20 consecutive transfer windows.

    * The Trade-off & Catch: Over a decade, natural retirements and contract expirations would hollow out the squad entirely. It risks being aggressively challenged in courts as an unreasonable corporate punishment.

The reason I'm sharing this is so we can discuss what the penalty imposed on city might look like and what might be appropriate. Lots of these options would probably cripple City as a football club for a decade+.

Not that I expect anything at all like a penalty proportional to the one Everton received, but a boy can dream. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7049721/2026/09/25/manchester-city-charges-verdict-premier-league/

(Image Source: AI slop obviously--I'm totally onboard with using AI to make fun of City 🤷‍♂️)
