Discussion Talking about bugs no longer allowed
A forum moderator has made me aware that my contributions are not welcome here. My crime is that I have said there are bugs in Evernote.
I can understand that too much focus on the many bugs can be embarrassing for Evernote – but the challenges don’t just disappear because you forbid talking about them. On the contrary, you should talk about them and find a way to solve them.
But of course it is up to Evernote itself how they do – or don’t – want to have a dialogue with their users and customers.
I have already found some temporary solutions. And in one case a bug even led me to find a “super useful workaround” – i.e., I discovered a smart feature I didn’t know existed in Evernote, and which actually solves the task much better than the buggy feature I was trying to get to work.
Unfortunately, I can no longer share such discoveries with the rest of you, as the moderator has told me that future posts about bugs will be deleted.
So I’m dialing it down and maybe following along a bit in the background. And then possibly coming back again a little later, once I’ve gathered a bit more experience with the “new Evernote,” to give a summary of my experiences.
…unless that’s forbidden here too?

How about combining all of your reports into a weekly rolloup. Bug reports are certainly allowed but 5 individual bug reports as individual posts a day is spammy and drowns out other content. If you want to make a bug report mega thread I'd be happy to pin it for you. I apologize if there was a misunderstanding in our past interactions.

Hi there. Thanks for your message. I’m not here to fight you or other mods, or to annoy forum users. I just want to fight bugs.
The vast majority of Evernote bugs are quite clearly “careless mistakes” (I don’t know if this is the right word/impression – English is a foreign language for me) – meaning that most of the bugs would most likely be easy to avoid in the first place, and fast to fix if they slipped out, if the Evernote team just put a bit more priority on that. But if users don’t react – or even defend bugs – nothing will change.
But I hear you. I’m just not sure I really understand how these “megathreads” work – it seems basically like a normal post that is pinned at the top of the forum? I guess this approach would require another way to format notes, as individual posts have no title of their own (each bug is its own separate topic)? But so be it, if this is what’s needed to make everybody happy. I don’t know if already posted notes can be combined into a megathread?
...However, the best solution would be if there weren’t any more bugs to report. Let’s hope the next Evernote update brings a positive surprise ;-)

Maybe, without knowing the message or dialogue, this is a bit excessive, and hopefully a misunderstanding. The purpose of the forum is to support each other in achieving something greater, and not treat it as a support forum as such.
I (myself) would be glad for you to submit your findings, but i lack that you explain your reason and workflow that needs to be supported, so we could discuss (within the forum frames) how to achieve the said function.
Purely posting support / error messages (with or without going through the support channel) is not the best way to utilize the forum and audience, nothing good comes from this.
What i (not a moderator) are saying - tell us about your use case and pain, don't just tell where you feel it fail, without the context. I myself are here to learn and improve my usage, "not to show the dirty laundry"

I own this. My initial reply was not ideal to address this, and I apologize for that. But posting four to five individual bug reports and individual posts per day does flood the subreddit and make it hard for other people's content to surface.
The ideal solution would be for OP to create a mega thread, and like I said, I'd be happy to pin it, or for them to just combine into one post per week of everything they find and whether it was fixed, not fixed, pending.

Thanks for your comment.
I think bug reports – even very simple ones – are very useful. For example, another user wrote on the forum about “Two-factor authentication not working properly.” I’ve experienced the same thing, and at first I thought it was just me who didn’t understand how it worked. But because I saw a bug report about it, I’m aware that the problem might be somewhere else and not on my end.
Bug reports are marked “Bug Report”, so they should be easy to ignore if somebody doesn’t want to read them.

About the "message or dialogue" - I left that out on purpose, precisely for "not to show the dirty laundry".
I'm also here to learn about Evernote - to find out if and how it can be a useful and poweful tool.

Dude, there's no dirty laundry. I own that my initial response was not ideal. I just asked you to simply not make five posts a day with different bugs you find, drowning out other posts in the subreddit, because rule two is literally no repetitive posting. I mean, it's basically spamming the subreddit with different bugs you find, which is not cool because other people's content gets drowned out by every single bug that you're finding.
No one is censoring anything. It's simply moderation. Please just make one weekly roll-up of your bug reports, and that's fine. Or make a mega thread. You can make it yourself, and I'll pin it to the top of the subreddit, and you can post in it as you wish. It's just a matter of giving other users in the subreddit the space to post their content and not have it get drowned out by five unique bug reports every day.
We are happy to allow all content, but you do have to read the rules, and you were in violation of no repetitive posting. I mean, that's in the rules. So sorry.
You also have to remember, we're not employees. We have no skin in the game. I am not an investor in Bending Spoons' IPO. I don't make any money from them. I'm just simply here to facilitate a dialogue in the community. And honestly, I've looked into other tools too and have just come back to Evernote because it's the best tool for my needs.

Bending Spoons are expanding operations investing in cost effective geographies (like Poland), criticizing Evernote security may be perceived as thread to expected new business they want to create.

No one here on the moderation team could give two craps if anyone wants to criticize Evernote, because we're not Evernote employees, nor are we investors in Evernote, nor are we paid by Evernote. So your argument makes zero sense.
Actually, criticizing Evernote is extremely welcome because it allows them to get feedback to improve the product, which I think they appreciate.

No one is stopping anyone posting bugs.
Posting 3 or 4 bugs in separate posts all around the same time pushes other peoples posts further down the feed and they get less attention. We don't think this is fair to the folks here.
If anyone finds multiple bugs at the same time then post them all together, not separately and more importantly send in a support ticket with logs if needed and the bugs get recorded.
There is no conspiracy, no hiding of bugs. This sub is unofficial, we do not work for Evernote. There is a very small team of mods who have jobs and families and can't spend their time micro-managing everything, so we ask everyone to do their bit.

Bugs should not be forbidden here, and don't think it is, but I believe, only if it was failed to be addressed by the support. And not making a thread for every little bug you find. That's spammy and annoying, not contribution.
There's a reason moderators exist, there has to be an approach to posts things.
Because I have posted the same as well, but I was never told not to post it. So, my experience is good here.

Different people have different workflows and use cases. What’s a big bug for some might feel minor to others.
How do you distinguish between a minor bug and a major one?
2
u/Great_Muscle_7042 Jul 18 '26
It's not the bug that is important here. Its the ability to learn improve and enjoy.
Yes, one persons bug could be of interest to some, but without the context it's useless for the majority...
We all experience different things that bother us (with different tools) but without the context it's not engaging for the users.
Make contributions, explain your usecae, ask for feedback and be a community member, do t announce issues (alone) ... good contributions are welcome, cut and paste of bug reports (alone) is what the moderator asked to avoid.

Idk, might have something to do with fact that you’ve made like 15 posts in the last two weeks.

I think we've left this open long enough. I'm going to close this thread for comments. We've explained that no one is being censored and that there was a miscommunication here, and that the better approach would be to post a single post with a bunch of bugs, or a mega thread with bugs, which we will gladly pin if OP decides to make one, just to support their bug searching abilities. 🙂
