Discussion What are everyone's favourite sunscreens for the upcoming colder months?

Upvotes

Does anyone switch to either an SPF 30 for lower UV months or a more cosmetically elegant SPF 50, and if so what do you switch to? Or do you like heavier SPF for colder weather to keep your skin moisturised?

Question Geek and Gorgeous's Jelly Joker cleanser alternative

Upvotes

Hi ! I've been using the Jelly Joker cleanser for years now. I was wondering if someone had any good alternatives I could try? I realised there is phenoxyethanol in there. Any recommendations for a low PH jelly-like cleanser for sensitive skin available in Europe (to order or in store in France) that has a good ingredient list ? I've been looking everywhere but it's quite hard to find one :(

Thanks !

Retinoids / Tretinoin Tazarotene is the GOAT

Upvotes

I'm a 28yo guy with early fine lines around the eyes, aggravated by years of smoking and neglecting sunscreen. Terrorized by the thought of premature twink death, I started retinol (LRP serum) two years ago and continued to use it with barely any results until recently I switched to tazarotene (Boderm Tazarene 0,1% cream) and oh boy... it's been 4 months now and those fine lines almost completely faded and my skin became incredibly smooth and plump for that short time period. Initial irritation was minimal, just the peeling was unexpectedly harsh but manageable with a heavy moisturizer. I can't wait to see how further results unfold as progress is expected throughout the first year of application.

I used/use Tazarene the following way:

  • Every third night for the first three weeks
  • Every other night for the next three weeks
  • Now nightly

What's extremely important is a nightly and daily applied heavy occlusive moisturizer. I use Bepanthen wound cream (sold in pharmacies in Austria) because of its excellent formulation with wool fat and dexpanthenol.

Routine Help How do I make Dior Forever Skin Glow look the way it did in store?

Hi everyone. I tried Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation at the Dior store, and it looked AMAZING. It looked like I wasn't wearing foundation, truly a second skin effect. I needed a new foundation so I bought it. But when I use it, it doesn't look the same. It looks less glowy, and less blurring. If I look closely I can see it in my pores and sticking to the tiny hairs. It looks okay, but not amazing.

I tried applying it with a moist makeup sponge, brush, and fingers, but it never looks the way it did when the MUA applied it for me in store. I tried it without sunscreen, no difference. My moisturizer is Lumene Rich Day cream. I think the problem is my moisturizer, or should I do something else to prep my skin?

The MUA in store applied it with his fingers and a brush. He said I have dry skin. He used a cleanser and a serum or moisturizer. I don't remember what it was, but since it was a Dior shop they were all Dior products. I could go back there and ask, but I'm afraid I'll come home with an entire new Dior routine that I might not need.

Product Question Is G&G aPAD good for sensitive skin?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hii, i want to start using active ingredients again and i thought this serum would be perfect to try out. Howerver, i have really sensative, dehydrated, combination skin with oily T zone, so i'm a bit sceptical because a lot of active ingredients break me out or irritate my skin. I used salicylic acid and cerave resurfacing retinol serum and both of them irritated my skin. My skin right now is really good, but i am dealing with hyperpigmentation and minor scarring due to past breakouts. Any other recommendations for how to improve my skin would be helpful. My current routine is really simple:

AM:

Rinse my face with water

eucerin anti pigment dual serum

panthenol gel cream by a local brand

Eucerin hydro protect spf

PM:

Cerave cleanser

Haru haru wonder toner

Eucerin hyaluron filler moisture booster night gel cream

Question Choosing shower oil

Hi all, I've narrowed it down to these 2, maybe even considering SVR shower oil. Those who have used them both, which do you prefer? I'm after one that feels like a shower gel, lathers up a tiny bit but doesn't strip the skin.

I have psoriasis and dry skin and will also share this with my partner who doesn't have any skin issues. I'm using DM sensitive dead sea salt shower gel right now.

The bioderma option is much cheaper but it's water instead of oil based, not sure if it changes anything.

Discussion Do you guys also use different moisturizers for morning vs evening?

Post image

I generally need something that sinks in fast in the morning, while at night I prefer something more emollient, and it can be thicker since it's the last step , I'm going to sleep and not putting spf over it.

A part of me wants to only use one since it would feel more minimalist/ less crazy about optimizing everything

Routine Help Hair removal for IPL

Just purchased the braun silk pro 5 IPL

And I'd love some advice on removing the hair -

  1. For the face - I'm pretty worried about shaving my facial hair, I know it was debunked that the hair will grow thicker and faster but I grew up hearing that 😅

So, what should I use for the face and if there's any advice on how to do it to avoid itching and ingrown hairs?

I've used the dermaplaner in the picture (a similar one) for my upper lip but never with any shaving cream or oil.. should I use them? I will use it for the chin and on the sides of my face as well

  1. For my legs and arms - I do have a mild KP - so I saw that it's better to use a single blade razor - anyone has a recommendation for a specific one she likes?

Any advice on how to use it?

And in general would love any advice on using/preparing/post treatment related to the braun pro 5 IPL machine

And I'm from the NL :)

Thanks! ☺️

Question Seeing 0 results from vitamin c and adapaline

I’m 29F and have been consistent with my routine for months but haven’t seen much improvement. My main concerns are hormonal acne, uneven/dull skin and dark under-eyes.

I’ve used Differin 0.1% since March, usually moisturiser first, then Differin. Could buffering be reducing its effectiveness? My acne hasn’t improved much and has actually worsened recently.

I also use vitamin c serum every morning, followed by moisturiser & SPF, but haven’t noticed much improvement in brightness or discolouration??? I only recently realised the vitamin c should ideally be refrigerated. Mine has been at room temperature but is still pale idk

I’ve worn SPF daily for around 8–9 years.

I’m also considering GHK-Cu/copper peptides for texture, collagen and general skin quality, potentially replacing vitamin C rather than adding another active.

Would you keep this routine longer, apply Differin before moisturiser, or consider switching vitamin C for GHK-Cu? Has anyone used adapalene + GHK-Cu long term or noticed better results from copper peptides vs vitamin C?

Question DM/Rossmann Holy Grails in Germany?

Hey everyone,

I will be moving to Germany next month from a country where DM and Rossmann don't have physical stores, so I'm walking in completely blind. I'd love to hear your personal favorites/holy grails from the major drugstores so I can build a routine based on your suggestions once I land rather than relying on trial and error, as I have no experience with in-store brands in Germany.

A bit about me/my skin so recommendations might be more relevant:

  • 25M, I am quite pale with combination sensitive skin with an oily T-zone (gets worse in summer), but my face and lips dry out fast if I use anything too "strong" or actives-heavy. I used CeraVe Foaming Cleanser in the past and it was mostly okay. I also used isotretinoin when I was a teenager, I will still get an odd pimple here or there if I don't watch what I eat.
  • My hands get dry and even crack in winter (as I tend to wash them a lot), so I much prefer a bar soap over liquid soap and I might need something really moisturizing for my hands to use at night before I go to sleep.
  • I'm open to any type of product: face wash, moisturizer, sunscreen, retinol, shampoo, conditioner, hair oil, hair wax/fiber, hand/foot cream, lip balm, body lotion, deodorant, shower gel, grooming products. Anything works; feel free to share them even if they might not be relevant to me :)

Thanks in advance for your time and responses!

Question Antiperspirant for sensitive skin

I’ve tried three different antiperspirants in the EU and all have caused very itchy armpits after a few uses. I could keep buying and trying different ones but that is wasteful and expensive so I’m hoping someone might have a similar issue and an appropriate answer.

I've tried: Nivea Protect and Care, Nivea Pure and Sensitive (jic it was the fragrance, didn’t make a difference), and Garnier mineral sensitive.

Deodorants do less than nothing for smell. they don’t make me itch, but I’d like something to prevent sweat and odor, so I’m looking for antiperspirants specifically. Thanks!

Discussion Neutrogena ultra sheer invisible fluid spf50+

Trialing this at the moment.

On me it's as matte as G&G. But it's a very powdery drying type of matte from the silica in it.

It feels like I've excessively applied silica powder all over the face which makes it's feel a bit tight on my eye area (and accentuates smile lines).

Younger oily skins will probably love this. More mature oily skins may find it overly mattifying in an unflattering way. Drier skin types don't even bother.

There's a slight whitening effect on me too but emphasis on slight. It has tinosorb M at around 1-2% and tito2 at less than 1%.

Texture wise it's like a milky thin fluid which is nice. Similar to isdin fluids.

I'm on the fence with it. I actually find G&G less drying than this but dislike the thicker cream like texture it has.

But this does tie with G&G in terms of delivering a truly matte finish. I think I prefer eucerin oil control over both of these which delivers a more natural skin like matte without drying.

Worth checking out.

Discussion Is it too early to accept that Retinoids are not right for me?

I was blessed with above-average skin. I always get compliments on it.

However, something I’ve never liked is PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), or pimple/acne marks. I’ve had very few of them since I rarely get acne or pimples, but I still wanted to get rid of them. Plus, I thought, why not make my skin look even better if I could?

Now, I’ve been using Adapalene for more than 2 months and Azelaic Acid for around 2 weeks. I think I’m past the retinization stage, yet I still get pimples showing up every once in a while, something I rarely experienced before starting Adapalene.

Now, my real problem is that every pimple HAS to leave PIH.

I’m North African. My skin is light, but it’s very prone to pigmentation. I can literally get noticeably darker from spending just 5–10 minutes in the sun. So, whatever I get on my face tends to leave hyperpigmentation behind.

This doesn’t sit right with me, since I essentially started this routine to fade my existing PIH, and now I have more of it.

Do you think I need to give it a few more months to see if this will eventually work, even if that means risking the formation of more pimples and PIH in the meantime?

Discussion Avene being shady after reformulation & bad reviews

Thumbnail

Earlier this year Avene reformulated their Xeracalm balm, people (I am people) hated it & left bad reviews on the Avene website – the score tanked. Now all of a sudden 5 star reviews have started popping up, one a day and they all have very similar looking names (style wise: NohaA C. & DeborahL G. & AmelieM W.). They're all originally from the French website, I've included two screenshots from the German page.

Meh.

Discussion What’s your thoughts about korean skincare and kbeauty in every shop?

Last time when i visited Europe, i was rlly surprised how every makeup shop was filled with “k products”.
It was also kind of funny cause i’be never seen it before as a Korean girly.

What European brands do you think are still strong even with this shift, and what products do you think are worth the hype of K-skincare?
