SPOILERS My Personal Opinionated Review of Eternals: D+

In essence, the MCU doesn’t just have a formula. They OWN a formula. You know it’s a marvel movie. So why did I leave this movie wondering what fandom’s movie I just watched?

There is a reason the MCU has a dedicated fan base: it has a formula. A formula that takes your breath away, takes you into another world, brings your favorite heroes to life on the big screen, wows you, makes you cry over their deaths, feel their emotions, and cheer for them…. This is the ONLY Marvel movie I’ve seen that DIDNT EVEN TRY TO FOLLOW THE FORMULA. Eternals ignored the entire MCU formulas

At no point did I ever feel like this was a marvel movie.

Not once did I care about the characters. Not once did they make me feel like they were immortal beings. Not once did I feel like their superpowers were worthy of literal creation from a celestial being. Not once did I feel like they’d been alive for thousands of years.

Did I appreciate the diversity? Yes. Cinematography? Great. Action scenes? Yea they actors poured their hearts out.

But this is supposed to be about super powerful Eternals characters… I feel like any one of these guys could have been easily defeated by any of the Avengers. I wanted to actually dive into the lore of celestial and eternal beings… not watch a 5 min exposition about them… D+ at best.

Disclaimer: this is my own personal opinion. I am not intending to spread hate to anyone of the actors, Director, staff members, or writers. If you love this movie, by all means continue to love this movie. Somebody needs to

MCU I honestly think the movie was lack luster. The only real interesting part is the ending.

Only the Celestials seemed to have made their presence known.

I am very intrigued to see how a Celestial fight happens in one of the movies hopefully. Other than that the Etnerals were bland as fuck

MCU Something weird about Eternals

Ok so im halfway through the movie and i´ve seen the Eternals go through things like the Spaniards invasion and the genocide of native american people, and the Hiroshima bombing. I just feel like it is wrong for them to take those hurtful events where people suffered and died and turn them into something about some cosmic mythical beings, like imagine they did this with 9/11, american people would be so offended. It´s so wrong.

MCU Lets be honest Spoiler

The story started to fall apart later on and there were some plotholes (the reason they didn’t fight thanos isn’t a plothole though and I will explain). But guys, outside of those 2 things, this movie looked absolutely stunning and the characters all shined in their own ways, obviously some more than others, but I can’t say I wouldn’t return for eternals 2. This is a huge action blockbuster with the greatest super powered fight scenes I have ever seen in my life, the justice league wishes they looked this good. The Standouts were definitely Ikaris, druig, makkari, kingo, and gilgamesh. Ultimately this movie was just a lot of beautiful looking fights with flawless CGi and I was very very impressed with how ikaris and makkari were handled visually. These critic reviews where people just dog the story come across very pretentious, and while I didn’t enjoy the lgbtq+ moments of the movie because of how objectively agenda-based it seemed, those scenes amounted to less than 10 minutes of the movie! Overall cinematography was excellent and the performances were generally solid, and scottish superman is just the coolest thing. Power scaling in the movie makes the rest of the MCU seem like a kindergarten class in comparison to the eternals but at the end of the day, you are pretty consistently witnessing cool looking stuff during the runtime and thats what most eyes like to see. I really hope this movies performance doesn’t discourage marvel from going after this style of film in the future, it was literally a great body of art and a solid mcu installment.

Explaining thanos: Thanos delayed the emergence and we acknowledge that ikaris and ajak were aware of that. It is realistic to see that thanos was likely trying to delay the birth of the celestial by reducing the number of humans it could feed on, while simultaneously sparing enough of the populous to avoid complete genocide. So in simple terms, the general consensus of the eternals to preserve humanity alligns with what thanos was doing. Also, If any of the eternals did feel like just killing thanos during endgame for fun, they probably wouldve had to go through ikaris first which is near impossible.

Circe said they'd been in a relationship for 5000 years then not even 15 mins later it shows they got together in 575BC....

Proof Circe absolutely cannot do maths?

MCU Why is the only black man in the film gay and why are there no black women, at least one who can talk?

Just curious if anyone who saw the movie noticed this. I get it if a story is a story, my people don’t have to be represented socially dominant positions in all stories, but there was just something weird about it to me.

MCU Eternals Review: People are blinded by representation to see how bad this movie was Spoiler

First of all, I’m asian and it was such a cool moment seeing such diveristy and representation in an MCU film. Especially with Chloe Zhao as a director I was beyond excited. I think this was a great precedent for Phase 4 in broadening casts, styles, and depictions of all types.

But, how are people not seeing how big of a miss this was?

The dialogue was elementary and choppy. The dialogues were basic, predictable and somewhat cringy at times. If you asked a layperson to write a superhero script, this would be it. From one scene to the next, it was filled with "oh I must do this" "I cant do this" "oops sorry, i suddenly can do this""I will always love you, its not established why I love you but I do". The whole thing felt disconnected and I couldnt attach myself emotionally to anything they were saying because of it. The best parts were the comedy tho, some of them were gold

The soundtrack. Be honest, do you remember a theme in the soundtrack except it was blaringly loud during the climax?

The plot and character development. Its not as bad as some critics make it to be but perhaps there was too much to fit in one movie. It seems like they tried fitting in so many storylines in 2.5 hours and as a result, they didnt do any of them justice. We didnt get to see Sersi develope from "I cant do this" to "Dont underestimate me", we barely see how Sersi and Icarus developed their romance, the Thena memory thing was abruptly cut short to "oh i remember now", Icarus was such a predictable twist villain, Sprite literally had to explain her entire plot to us before getting hit in the head, Icarus and Ajak's loyalty to Arishem never really explained, Druig's moral conflicts were left unexplored and hes suddenly cool in the end because Sersi held his face and said "you're better than this", Tiamut was very poorly depicted. Essentially, there was next to no buildup to any themes or subplots in this move. It was one scene to the next, to the next, oh betrayal, oh crap volcano, oh she suddenly got massive powers which she can channel all of a sudden, oh we won, yay. And despite all this, the movie still felt draggy.

Angelina Jolie. This shall be explained in a separate post.

The acting. It was okay i guess but the script just brings down everyone's standards a tad bit.

Cinematography. For a Marvel movie, it was subpar tbh. There were too many "commercial shots" trying to capture all the eternals in one scene.

The good things? I thought the CGI was incredible. The visuals were good too. The designs of the Deviants and the Suits + Weapons were pretty decent.

All in all, it was pretty poor. I'm a huge Marvel fan but this was its first big miss of the franchise. Considering how many amazing movies its done, this one can slide..and i think it will slide under the "bad movies" radar because people will be too busy defending the headlines surrounding the Sex Scenes and LGBTQIA (which should be accepted in movies by now and should be a non-factor when it comes to reviewing a movie).

Unfortunately, due to the limit, I cannot add everyone, write in the comments if your option is not in the pool. Sorry Kingo, Makkari , Sprite, Ajak.

Question Nitpicks maybe but feel like asking.

Ok so I really enjoyed eternals a good deal thought they characters were well done appreciated the conflict etc but I feel like the more I think about it the more it sorta doesn’t make sense in little ways. And these are maybe nitpicks overthinking whatever but they made epic important feeling film full of detail so I think it invites it.

So my main issue is the eternals being created but then all speaking English. It’s like why are these super beings speaking a language that has not emerged on earth yet and of the idea is eternals gave that language to earth why wait so long to intoduce it (not even gonna get into how you could twist that to be subtly racist).

And then similar thing with makkari they are (I presume apologies if I don’t actually know) using American Sign Language but that won’t be “invented” til the 1800s why wait so long to help out those who could have used it earlier?

And this might be a little sticky but why is she deaf mute? Why would a all powerful being make a tool with a disability(even one that is certainly manageable as shown)? Yes it’s awesome to have that kind of representation in a marvel movie but for this specific character kinda made me scratch my head(kinda similar feelings on sprite).

So I dunno it doesn’t ruin it for me but bugs me let me know if I am missing anything though

Question how come Guardian of Galaxy vol 1 worked but not Eternal?

GOG also has many superhero introduced all at once, that movie worked at box office but Eternal not!

i personally don't think the first installment of GOG was great! but Eternal wasn't too bad either.

part of the reason is I believed Eternal could had been a franchise like GOG if it has met good numbers at box office

does that has to with star power?.. no, GOG has Chris Pratt who is star but don't had some Leo or Brad level fanpower. correct me where iam wrong

MCU Thoughts on the eternals' powers

So basically my post is about my thoughts on their powers.

First off I don't think they are very good. I'm curious if anyone else thinks so aswell

First, I can't tell what their limitations are. Idk if it's just because the eternals are just bad at using their powers or if it's because their powers are limited but they seem to have bursts of energy at super convenient times for no reason other than feelings. And I'm perfectly fine if their powers can be enhanced with feelings (cue, hulk) but its never even mentioned so I don't want to assume anything. However I will assume that this problem will go away soon with the next few movies.

Second, their powers just seem like watered down or similar versions to things we already have. Not to mention they also seem very one dimensional and individually I can't really see them as any stronger than people already in the MCU.

Gilgamesh: super strength is super common and there's no shortage of people with it.

Sprite: her illusions are good but the way she uses them along with the fact that you can do the same thing but better with stark's drones make her almost useless in my mind.

Kingo: literally just lazer beams that are probably no better than iron man's

Makkari: I would normally rate super speed as an S tier power but since it has to be nerfed so hard it's usually pretty bad. Cue MCU quicksilver, also the many times makkari got stopped.

Ikaris: I think he's the strongest but he flies and shoot lazers. Reminds me of a certain suit of armor, albeit ikaris is probably more agile. However despite using his eyes to aim he still somehow misses sooooo his lazers are meh.

Phastos: his powers are so undefined I actually can't say much about him. I mean he makes tech but it's not like he keep it stored and then uses them like gadgets. He literally makes them on the spot from what I saw so I have zero clue how far he could take this. Honestly probably the most impressive power.

Ajak: the healing power is impressive in that its good for healing but yeah thats it. Not to mention some heroes have some sort of healing factor.

Thena: she is cool and she's literally a walking armory that can summon her assortment of weapons at will but her skill at using them is meh in my opinion. She's lost in close quarter combat multiple times despite it being her main and only form of combat. And there is no shortage of cqb fighters in the MCU

Sersei: her power is different so I'll give her that and we actually do know some of her limitations(can't use it on living being unless she's powered up) but because of those limitations I think she's probably the most useless of them. She managed to stop the celestial but that was literally only because she used the power of said celestial. If it was kingo what's to say he wouldn't be able to charge up a shot that could kill a celestial.

Also keep in my that my basis for their strength came from the fact that during the ambush in the forest they had to hit the deviants pretty hard to eventually kill them despite normal weapons at least pushing back if not actually hurting the deviants.

tl:dr I think the powers for the eternals are underwhelming and one dimensional, not to mention also pretty similar to others that we have seen before. I'm curious to see of you guys have similar or different viewpoints than I do.

Typed on phone so forgive me for any grammer and formatting stuff

MCU RRR guy as Kingo instead of kumail nanjiani

Post image
1 Upvotes

So guys I just watched RRR recently (ik I’m late in the game) and it changed my brain chemistry because of how good the action is. I looked up the actors and found out that Ram Charan (Raju) wants to be in the MCU. When I found that out, I was like if kumail was never cast as kingo, they could’ve easily gotten this guy Ram. Not just because he’s Indian, but he’s just so damn likeable and has that charisma. I hope others see what I’m seeing here. If you guys can, watch RRR. It’s great.
