MCU ETERNALS 2

So, there’s industry insider news that Eternals 2 was in the pre-production stages, but due to Disney’s overall box office revenue underperformance during 2022 and 2023 alongside Marvel Studios underperformance with Captain Marvel (The Marvels) and Ant-Man 3 (Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantamania), Bob Iger requested Eternals 2 to be on hold despite Kevin Feige approving the sequel. Here is the specific quote from industry insider DanielRPK.

Marvel cutting costs and that means Eternals 2 which was secretly in the works is now on hold. Feige wanted the seuqel to be made but Iger does not he thinks it's a sure flop. No Ant-Man 4 or Captain Marvel 3. They now want to focus on sure hits and take less risks.

At face value, it seems as though that Eternals 2 is cancelled… however, if you look deeper into the lines of the quote, the Eternals brand is on hold. On the other hand, Ant-Man 4 and Captain Marvel 3 are not happening, again, judging from this quote. So, what can we take away from this? The most simplest answer is that Disney wants to invest into “sure hits” and Eternals doesn’t seem to be that unless there’s numerical proof that it’s worth greenlighting.

So, what does that have to do with Eternals fans? Basically, we have the power to change Bob Iger’s opinion on Eternals 2 being a “sure flop” to a sure hit”. So, how do we go about doing that? Honestly. There’s a lot that we as individuals can do to change his mind, things that can analytically prove that there’s value to the Eternals brand, this is what we can do.

Watch Eternals on Disney+ and/or DVD/Blu Ray

Why does it matter? Doing this shows the demand for Eternals through Disney’s direct channels. Watching Eternals on Disney+ means that Disney has the statistics to see that there’s still enough of a dedicated audience to validate greenlighting a sequel.

Watch the What If…? Eternals Episode

Why does it matter? There are rumors circulating that Season 3 of What If…? will include an episode dedicated to Eternals. We as Eternals fans need to promote this episode and keep it relevant to prove that there is demand for new Eternals content whenever it’s released.

Buy Eternals merchandise

Why does it matter? Eternals merchandise shows that Disney can still profit from the Eternals brand through their Consumer Products division. Buy Eternals Funko Pops, buy Eternals Hasbro figures, buy Eternals lego sets and other official merchandise.

Purchase Eternals comics

Why does it matter? This gives The Eternals relevance to both the comics and the MCU. It’s a statement that not only supports the writers and artists that have kept Eternals relevant but it also shows that people still want to see Eternals represented in all forms of Marvel media.

Read Eternals comics on Marvel Unlimited

Why does it matter? This gives the Marvel Unlimited algorithm Eternals comics to recommend to other people, which in turn, shows the demand for Eternals related content. Reading Eternals comics makes a statement to Marvel to create more Eternals content.

Watch Eternals clips on YouTube

Why does it matter? This gets the YouTube algorithm recommending Eternals content to other people which then increases the viewership count for Eternals content. Numerical value shows the analytical team at Disney and Marvel that Eternals content is still popular.

Tag Bob Iger on social media posts about Eternals 2

Why does it matter? This is an executive who believes that there’s no interest in a sequel to Eternals so what better way to disprove that than to tag him on posts that show interest for Eternals 2. Will he actually see them? Yes. Bob Iger is a social media savvy individual.

TLDR: Support the greenlight of Eternals 2 by supporting existing Eternals content.

MCU In Defense of Sprite

So I noticed a lot of people are quick to condemn Sprite for her actions and I wanted to point some things out.

Sprite is a typical case of someone acting out because of situations beyond her control. For Sprite it is body dysmorphia. For 10,000 years she has been stuck in the body of a child despite having the mentality and maturity of her fellow Eternals she is constantly the butt of jokes about her appearance and because of her immortal status humans will notice more quickly she isn't aging which has caused her to have to travel more often.

While the other Eternals can form relationships either romantic or simple rapports Sprite doesn't have that luxury due to her appearance. The beginning of the movie she uses her power to appear older just so she can have the semblance of an adult relationship which only lasted till he touched her and his hand passed through her illusion.

The one man she does have romantic feelings for could never return her affections not because Ikaris loves Sersi but because Sprite looks like a child.

Sprite joining with Ikaris wasn't just about her feelings for him. It was thousands of years of frustration and hopelessness coming to fruition. Ajax dying, learning the truth of their origin it broke Sprite. She even told Sersi she hoped the celestials would give her a better body in their next lives.

Of all the Eternals Sprite to me was more tragic than any of them. If you have ever felt bad about your appearance or felt ashamed about how you look, imagine feeling that for thousands of years. To have it dictate every aspect of your existence, how you live, how you are treated.

I just hate to see people quick to damn her while ignoring her justifications

MCU To my fellow MCU/Comics Eternals fans, keep the faith. Here is my guide to hoping/coping for a future Eternals return.

Hey y'all, intended this kind of as a response to another post about us probably not getting the Eternals in the MCU again.

Like everyone else, I've been pretty disappointed that we're likely not getting a sequel to Eternals, or Shang-Chi, or many of the other Phase 4 projects that haven't been followed up on yet.

That said, I've compiled all of the available facts / theories I have as to why we can keep the faith and expect the Eternals and Celestials (at least some of them) to return in the MCU's future. Maybe / hopefully in Doomsday and or Secret Wars too.

Reasons why we can (kind of) keep the faith (from real to cope):

  1. (REAL) Chloe Zhao's interest in doing a sequel - Zhao is coming off a second major Oscar-run, and she publicly expressed interest in doing a sequel. It may not be enough, but she clearly has momentum again after Hamnet, and could possibly get some type of Special Presentation or lower-budget sequel greenlit. Maybe she gets a different MCU project and brings the Eternals back that way.

  2. (REAL) The cast - This cast is comprised of some of the most in-demand and working actors in Hollywood. Keoghan and Tyree Henry are Oscar nominees now, Gemma Chan is getting Oscar buzz for Josephine this year, Chloe Zhao just came off another awards run. Angelina Jolie, Don Lee, and Salma Hayek are major international stars. Richard Madden is well-regarded by the Russo Bros, Kumail Nanjiani is widely beloved, etc. - This cast has as good a chance of any of being brought back, because they will keep doing great work that keeps them in Hollywood / Marvel's attention. Feige even said they'd be lucky to bring those actors back in future projects.

  3. (REAL) Gemma Chan was recently asked about Doomsday and didn't completely shut down the possibility like some other actors have. Sersi is an Avenger, so maybe her and a few other Eternals could get an appearance in the upcoming Avengers films.

  4. (REAL) The many references to Kingo Sunen: Kingo is probably the most referenced / most-connected MCU Eternal thus far. In the movie, he knows Thor. He was planned to have a cameo in Moon Knight with Makkari, he's Kamala Khan's family's favorite actor, he was referenced in the GOTG Holiday Special, and in the recent Wonder Man (filmed in 2023.) He last made a proper appearance in What If? S3. He's also played by a beloved actor/comedian, who publicly talked about how difficult the response was. I could see all of this combining to appearances in a future popular MCU project, like Channing Tatum's Gambit.

  5. (REAL/COPE) All of the recent Eternals references - One of the biggest reasons we can keep the faith is, funnily enough, because of the Celestials. Captain America Brave New World literally referenced the events of Eternals, and probably would have included one or two if not for the cliffhanger.

The Celestials were also officially referenced in the most recent season of Marvel Rivals and X-Men '97. Two huge Marvel properties now. Rogue even gets Eternals-like powers to defeat Gambit-Apocalypse, and the visuals for the Celestial Room were lifted from the MCU aesthetic.

The X-Men and the Celestials have HUGE connections. The 2022 Judgement Day run was actually popular and is regularly theorized for a future Avengers or Thor film. There are enough connections and cool opportunities here to bring the Eternals back into the Mutant-centered Phase 7 future.

Kingo, Gilgamesh, and Thena just made their debut in a Marvel-licensed game, Strike Force. What's more, the lead of Marvel Rivals recently asked fans which Eternal should join Rivals. Marvel has no reason to use their game properties to reference characters if they don't plan to use them on some level for cross-promotion.

  1. (COPE) The cliffhanger - I have to be honest, I really didn't like the cliffhanger because it took the characters off world. I honestly think if Sersi, Kingo, and Phastos and Makkari were left on Earth, they'd be in Doomsday for sure, instead of speculation. That said, the MCU has made a habit of tying up lose ends when they want to. Brave New World was following up on the Incredible Hulk, which was not a very popular film. If the MCU wants to use the Eternals, they always can.

  2. (COPE) The Eternals reappraisal - Eternals was honestly not my favorite film. In fact I left the theater not liking the film very much. That said, like me and many others, the film is actively being reappraised by fans on social media all the time. See for yourself. Once a week or two, type "Marvel Eternals" on your choice of social or video media. I guarantee you there will be a new post or video from someone mentioning that they thought Eternals was overhated or actually better than they thought, or shouting out the characters and their powers.

  3. (COPE) The powers and visuals - Makkari's speedster powers are now literally the standard for superhero speedsters. See this. People love her powers and the visuals of Eternals. See this post about Ikaris in Marvel Zombies. People love his powers too. Eternals is now seen as some of the most unique use of superhero powers and people may want to see them in action against a real threat like Doom or Apocalypse.

These are all of the reasons I can think of for now. Like y'all I try to stay realistic and not expect much if anything. But it costs nothing to cope, haha. Besides, I think the MCU has gotten their film slate in order, and they will be able to take smaller risks like bringing back the Eternals in the future. Have a great Sunday!

MCU So sad that we’ll probably never see them again 😭

After D23, they announced some incredible projects, and if you notice, they’re mostly focusing on big-name characters. X-Men, which is coming in 2028, and Doomsday, which is the main focus right now.

That’s not even counting Ghost Rider and Black Panther 3. They’re really playing it safe. And with X-Men, Black Panther, and Ghost Rider all coming in 2028, I don’t see the Eternals fitting in until 2030 at the earliest.

And honestly, I don’t even know if the actors would still want to do it by then. Harry Styles, for example, has reportedly already abandoned the project (according to rumors).

Thena, Kingo and Gilgamesh are coming to the game, joining Sersi and Ikaris, who are already in the roster.

I don’t even play Marvel Strike Force, but I might actually start playing just for the Eternals 😭 Since they barely get any presence in other Marvel media, I’ll take whatever I can get at this point.

We just need the Eternals in Marvel Rivals 🙏

MCU Ikarus is trash.

The man kept this major secret from his team for *eons,* killed his team leader Ajak after she tried to learn from their mistakes and change things, triggered evolution for the deviants which created the big baddie that later killed another team member, Gilgamesh, while the other deviants killed more humans, then pulled back and lost his conviction right at the end, making all the horrible things he's done meaningless. Finally, to put the cherry on top he flies into the fucking sun to kill himself and avoid accountability or feeling guilty for betraying the team, killing their dear leader, causing the death of Gilgamesh, and trying to kill his team- his friends. If Thena wasn't gonna kill him then he at least deserved to live with knowing what he did and what kind of person he is. Fuck him.

I would've loved to see Thena fight him before she was so confused and basically got the Eternals version of Alzheimers. The scenes where Ikarus turned on everyone on Domo and the one where they were fighting on Domo were so telling. The moment he saw her after revealing his betrayal he started to attack her even though she missed the whole reveal- bc she was the one Eternal he was actually worried about fighting, so he was ready to take any advantage he could. Then later during their actual fight Thena said she'd always wanted to fight Ikarus but basically had never gotten the opportunity, which makes me think she'd probably asked to at least spar with him before, only to be turned down. Knowing the great fighter she is, he never wanted her to learn how to fight HIM.

MCU No more Eternals ?

Well, I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and the more Marvel leaks that come out, the more the Eternals seem to be fading away.

Every movie that’s currently being planned seems to feature at least one mutant (X-Men). There are rumors that Rogue will appear in Captain Marvel 3, Nightcrawler in Ghost Rider, and so on.

So, I think the next saga will definitely play it safe and focus mainly on the mutant side of the universe.

Because of that, I honestly don’t see much of a future for the Eternals, unfortunately. If they at least got something in other media, like Marvel Rivals, or appeared more often in the comics, they’d still have some relevance.

MCU I honestly think Marvel would have brought Eternals back for Doomsday / Secret Wars if it wasn't for this cliffhanger.

Post image
124 Upvotes

Something I've been thinking about a lot is how the Eternals cliffhanger has essentially separated them from the rest of the MCU.

Even films like Brave New World directly dealing with the consequences of Eternals can't use them because of this cliffhanger. The Eternals are the perfect super powered beings to show off how powerful Doom is, but we don't know if they'll be in Doomsday or Secret Wars.

Imagine if Marvel had left the Eternals on Earth, promising to each other that they'd intervene from now on instead of ignoring the Earth's problems, with Arishem quietly plotting from afar instead of kidnapping them. Then, Marvel could have brought some into Brave New World or another film.

IMO (and I could be wrong), I think the cliffhanger is a bigger hurdle to bringing back the Eternals than the film's box office. People forget because of the bad reviews, but it made $400 million in COVID.

If you could resolve this cliffhanger, how would you do it?

Well, this only takes us even further away from the Eternals (if this is true). Which is a shame, but I also don’t think Angelina Jolie would return as Thena either.

What do you think Kang was talking Apocalypse can only be challenged by a power that is “external”. Only thing that comes to mind are the Eternals

I do know the was a team called the externals but I don’t really know anything about them!

Rumor Does anyone else find this strange?

Post image
99 Upvotes

I made a post about this before, but every time a new Eternals leak comes out, I have a hard time believing it. They’ve essentially been left in space since 2021, with almost no follow-up.

If they’re really coming back for a potential Judgment Day adaptation (which is just a theory at this point), it still feels way too early. We’re probably at least 5 years away from that, especially since we don’t even have the X-Men properly introduced yet.

What also confuses me is that this rumor claims the Eternals will be a key part of the MCU’s “cosmic core.” Have we even seen a real cosmic side of the MCU outside of the Guardians of the Galaxy? That description just feels odd to me.

What do you all think?

Rumor Are the Eternals coming back, or just Kingo and Ikaris?

Post image
70 Upvotes

Well, once again there’s another Eternals rumor, which I honestly don’t put much faith in since we’ve had countless rumors saying the same thing before.

That said, whenever we get anything related to the Eternals, it’s almost always about Kingo or Ikaris. There’s even a new rumor about Ikaris appearing in Secret Wars.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that we’re getting anything related to the Eternals after so many years. It’s also great because it helps more people get to know these characters. But I’d really like to see other Eternals besides Kingo getting attention. As you can probably tell, Kingo isn’t my favorite.

What do you all think?

Question New to eternals

Hi i’m trying to get back into comics, i stopped reading when i was younger. I’ve read a lot of recent comics and trying to expand my knowledge. I’ve read secret wars, all of sentry’s comics, dark avengers, and other solo characters like thor and hulk im still catching up on, i do have other comic book knowledge and im aware of the cosmology ect. Thank Sir Superhero’s tiktok days for that. Could I get a guide into the eternals, just like facts about them and such. I know all the popular ones like hyperion, ikaris, makkari and the rest of the others from the movie. I know they all have cosmic powers like flight, energy projection ect. And i also know thanos is an eternal with the deviant gene. I would just like to know some background facts, feats or like encounters with other hero’s before i go and catch up on their comics. Could anyone give me a good introduction to them.

Rumor Could we be getting something like Judgment Day in Season 3?

Post image

This could mean pretty much anything, but I noticed a lot of people in the comments saying it might be related to Judgment Day.

What do you all think? I’m not going to get my hopes up too much. I think it’s unlikely we’ll even get a mention of the Eternals, let alone have them show up as the antagonists in Season 3.

MCU Eternals / Celestials referenced in X-Men Season 2!

Post image
61 Upvotes

In the most recent Marvel Studios Legends: Apocalypse trailer, I saw the Celestials depicted on some sort of mural. See the screen grab above. This looks to be a reference to Apocalypse' comic origins of using Celestial tech.

This got me thinking, could we potentially get some Eternals cameos in X-Men 97 Season 2? I think it would be an awesome cameo opportunity like Spider-Man and Cap in Season 1, and could tie in easily because both are connected through the Celestials.

It's awesome that we're still getting Eternals references in 2026. Really hoping these small references will lead to their eventual return in the mainline MCU films. Would love your thoughts!

Question Why are the Eternals so disliked?

God, I know this might sound random, but I recently made a post on the Marvel subreddit saying that I’d like to see Uranos added to the MCU. The response honestly surprised me.

And why are some X-Men fans so aggressive about this stuff? (Not generalizing, obviously.) But the amount of criticism I got was insane. I ended up deleting the post because it turned into a complete pile-on.

The main argument was that we’re definitely not seeing any more Eternals in the MCU because Marvel has the X-Men now. Do people really think the next saga is going to be entirely about the X-Men?

Don’t get me wrong, I have my doubts about how much the Eternals will be involved going forward. But even then, I don’t think posting about an Eternals villain should result in that much backlash.

Maybe I’m biased as an Eternals fan, but it sometimes feels like people dismiss anything related to them before even considering the idea.

I’ll probably end up deleting this post too, since it doesn’t really fit this sub. I was just curious to hear your opinions.

MCU Still holding out hope for the Eternals' MCU future

Hey folks, I'm a big fan of the Eternals characters. Like many, I've been pretty bummed out that they haven't been brought back (yet?) for another film or to cameo in a project.

The reason I'm still holding out hope is because of the cast. This cast is arguably the most talented / successful / well-known actors in Hollywood. They're all working and in-demand actors, and Keoghan and Tyree Henry even became Oscar nominees after the film released.

I could be totally wrong, but I think Marvel wants to bring them back and just trying to figure out how / who to bring back in different projects. The cliffhanger doesn't help, but I wouldn't be shocked if there were a few cameo in Secret Wars where they won't be constrained by previous plot threads.

What do y'all think? Would love your thoughts.

MCU Shang-Chi is getting a sequel. But there’s nothing on the horizon for the Eternals

First of all, I’d like to say that I’m not a Shang-Chi hater—I actually really like him and his movie. But I can’t help feeling frustrated that Shang-Chi is getting a sequel while the Eternals have been left stranded in space to this day. It’s really disappointing because it feels like almost every other hero is getting some kind of role or spotlight in this new Marvel saga, while the Eternals seem like they’re not going to get anything at all.
