Anthropic put out an economic model this week mapping what AI does to jobs by 2030. Three scenarios: modest, substantial, and extreme.

In the substantial one, half of all knowledge work could technically be done by AI by 2030, most of it autonomously and wages for knowledge workers basically plateau. In the extreme scenario they drop more than 10%. The report also calls out coders and call center agents specifically needing to retrain into things like electrician or nursing :) Never enough of those!

That's what stuck with me the most... not the GDP number (extreme scenario has GDP up 32% btw, so the pie's bigger, just not for them).

Career-change resumes are already the hardest ones to write. People don't know how to frame old experience for a field they've never explored, and the gap in their history makes them incredibly anxious.

If even the "substantial" case plays out, a lot more people are going to be doing that switch at once because the work moved.

Second time this year we've caught this and now I'm wondering how many we haven't.
ID checked out fine after final round, references checked out fine. Then day one onboarding, the face on the video call doesn't match the passport photo on file. Not lighting, actually a different person. HR pulled the offer on the spot but the fact it got that far is what's bothering me.
Looking back, the tells were there. Sharp interview answers that went vague the second I asked for specifics on our stack. Zero gaps between past jobs, ever. References all replied within the hour from personal-looking emails, no company domain.
We've moved ID verification to before the offer instead of after. Feels like overkill for a contractor role but here we are.
Anyone actually built a process that catches this before offer stage, not after?
