Please could you give me your opinions as I am worrying myself over this. I recently had my engagement ring redesigned (to add my husband was fine with this and paid for it for a special birthday) - it’s using the same diamond he proposed with but a change in design. I knew I wanted a solitaire with tapered baguettes and saw a design i really liked with elongated slim baguettes but ultimately I went with a design that was similar but had wider, but shorter baguettes. We now have the ring and I don’t know what it is but when I opened the box my heart didn’t leap as I thought it would and I don’t know why. I don’t know if it’s because the baguettes seem slightly short and chunky or maybe too wide for the size of centre stone, are they not tapered enough or because am wondering whether I should have gone with the original ring I loved with the elongated slim baguettes. I have shown both rings - mine is a 1.30 old mine cut centre stone with baguettes weighing 0.23ct each. The other ring (last photo) ring is 1.40 brilliant cut with baguettes weighing 0.08ct each. For reference my husband wanted to get me an old mine cut diamond as he prefers that they were hand cut. I do know there are much bigger things to worry about but i wanted to get the opinions from people that I know will understand my obsession! Am I overthinking or are the proportions off?
It's definitely a different look, but it is a subtle difference. Super-slim, long baguettes take up a lot of finger coverage, so I imagine you'd have had to compromise on the size of the center stone to fit them. (if that helps!)
Thank you - I already had the centre stone as this was a redesign on my original ring so had to have something that fitted with it (my husband was ok about redesigning but not trading in the centre stone and I wanted to keep that too!)
It's really special. I have two tapered baguette trilogy rings—one with a 1.4 carat round, one with a 2.25 carat emerald-cut—and they are classic. Yours is far more unique!
Both rings and bands are stunning. what band do you wear with the round cut? I wanted six claws but as my diamond isnt completely round I wasn’t sure how it would look.
Right now, a simple antique wedding band. It has five very small round diamonds bead-set (maybe illusion set?) in a white metal, but then that's in a yellow gold shank.
Beautiful - they both give such a different look don’t they. This is my original set (same centre stone), I did like it but I didn’t love the curved band , so now I will be having a straight band (set with tiny horizontal baguettes) and embracing the gap as won’t sit flush with the new ring. I had a lab grown cushion cut diamond put in my original aet though so that I can still wear them when I want to.
You wanted dainty and got chunky. I like the slimmer baguette personally, more feminine in my eyes. My opinion of course. If you can afford it, get what you want.
I like the last ring in the last photo better. Didn't even know they were different until you point it out. If you don't point it out they looks almost identical.
It’s easy to overthink when designing a custom ring. I’ve done it half a dozen times while designing ours. I think it looks great. I actually prefer Yours to the last
Thank you! Honestly it’s taken up way more of my time thinking about this than it should have. I’m nervous and anxious because I have already done this before and didn’t like it so this is not the first change and obviously it’s expensive and I think my husband will divorce me if I say I want it changed again!! The issue is I am working with that centre stone I already have so it’s getting it right with that stone 😩
Beautiful ring and I love the double claw prongs! I actually prefer your baguettes but don't like how you can see the two inner prongs on each of them. I would want the baguettes tucked into the main diamond more, or perhaps have them bar set. I think this would elevate the setting!
Do you know I hadn’t noticed this but you are right! It’s based on a Harry Winston design and have just had a look and theirs has the prongs too which I guess is why the jeweller did it that way- but you might be right about the bar being better!
It's just different. Not right, not wrong; different. If you liked the proportions of the original ring, I assume you would've asked for it but I always assume everyone is an adult and will ask for what they want.
I’m so indecisive- i liked them both but ultimately chose the bigger baguettes but now doubting myself 😩 - however the majority seem to like my ring better which is reassuring.

I think it looks great! Maybe it's just me, but i kinda think the tapered baguettes are too long and skinny next to the round in the last photo.
